What is Dhoni's role in India's ODI side?
http://www.espncricinfo.com/story/_/id/25784094/ms-dhoni-role-india-odi-side

Good article by Aakash Chopra! Though there are parts of it that I don't completely agree with, he says the same thing that I've been saying here in this forum when it comes to "Dhoni acting as a floater". He says "if the top order fail, Dhoni comes in at No.4 to arrest the slide; if the top order succeeds and sets up the platform for a launch pad, Dhoni is pushed back as far as possible so that the other batsmen like Karthik, Pandya, Jadhav come ahead of him to give the innings the impetus". This is pretty much the same role that Subramanian Badrinath played for Chennai Super Kings (captained by Dhoni) in the early seasons of IPL. Badri would come out at No.4 if the CSK openers and Raina fall cheaply. But when the openers and Raina give CSK a good platform, Badri will be pushed back almost to the point where he does not get to bat. Same thing should happen with Dhoni till the WC.

When Chahal starts getting wickets, he just doesnt stop

will be interesting to see how we fare against Zampa today

The Indian bowlers have stepped up once again. Now I feel like Chahal is really under-rated as a bowler. He got a 5-fer in South Africa and now a 6-fer in Australia.

If we had Hardik pandya,he would have gobbled Zampa and diddle like he did in the Indian series, will be interesting to see how our openers fare on this challenging pitch

He is not overrated, just not in form.

For a bloke who's played 5 plus years, over 100 games and averages mid 30's and strikes at about 90 to be Aussie captain is vastly over rated. The worst part is that they have about 4-5 openers who have more potential. Can't understand how Paine isn't in that team either let alone not captain it.[DOUBLEPOST=1547802394][/DOUBLEPOST]I've been saying for 2 years now that Dhoni should bat 4. Seriously, how hard was it to spot?

No clue why Peter Siddle wasn't dropped for Mitch Marsh, would've strengthened the batting and they still would've had an extra bowler. Siddle should never play another game for Australia for the rest of his career.

This should be the XI going forward for us. Dhoni at 4, Jadhav at 5, Karthik at 6 is the middle order for us. Really happy for MSD being a fan. I hope there is no more chopping and changing now and MS gets to bat at 4 continuously from now on.
Exactly. Rayudu as reserve

When it came to scoring the runs on consitent basis in this series it was done by Dhoni single handedly and others played around him to win this series for us. All in all a complete team effort to clinch this series after being 1-0 down in this series. A great comeback and a great series win for us :clap:clap :cheers :wave :ind:

Have always said it ..I'd have Dhoni in my playing XI for the WC, batting at 4. His wicket keeping, captaining skills and dealing with pressure keeps him far above Pant, you just can't depend or rely on him, he still needs time and I'm sure he's a pretty fine player but haven't really seen him do anything substantial through his batting in ODIs. If you need him for his slogging we've got many like Pandya in the squad. Having MSD in there makes the squad balanced, you won't be chasing 350 anyway.
One more time.. well played. What a win.

You win majors through teams. Not individuals. Pant is ready. He's shown it in the toughest format. If anything, he will find it easier to play limited overs.
Pant hasn't been consistent, his mindset is a problem at times. We've never really wanted him as a batsman alone, he can keep wickets hence he's around. Someone like DK is miles better than him, he still needs time to play a tournament like the World Cup, he's a very fine player but not at a stage where you'd ignore other options and go for him.[DOUBLEPOST=1547812395][/DOUBLEPOST]
Dhoni at 4, Jadhav at 5, Karthik at 6 is the middle order for us.
Absolutely!

Absolutely!

If Dhoni bats 4, then he has to play. I was not putting him in my world cup team because this team and management saw him as a finisher. I have been hammering about batting him at 4 for about two years now.

Well... this game and the previous match (where Karthik scored really important runs down the order) kinda sets the template for India's batting order when the WC comes. To me, this looks perfect with Dhoni at 4 and Karthik and Jadhav at 5 and 6. I would say that if Rayudu has to come in for either of Karthik or Jadhav, Rayudu has to bat 5 or 6.

I'd love to see a game where the top order fires and how Dhoni and the middle order handle it where they have to keep accelerating and go 3-4 steps further. This series has been fortunately good practice for middle order due to the inconsistency of top order (which is fine; they will fire come WC).

It's good that MS has been making runs but I can place a bet here that he will not score runs in NZ.
Our top order will fire but then what will MS do? He can't eat up deliveries like in the first ODI. Unless Dhawan goes through the same form in NZ, I feel Dhoni will not fire.
