India tour of Australia Nov'20-Jan'21

44 runs in the last two overs
Sir Jadeja!

Hazlewood shouldn't be anywhere near the death overs, wonder why Finch didn't just save an over from Starc for this purpose.

This should also show that Hardik and Jadeja can bat at 5 and 6 if needed, they bat there for their IPL franchises and are very good there now. I think Samson wasn't completely out of place, wouldn't mind giving him the entire series so that we can either move on from his annual bandwagon or see him justify his place. Pandey might very well undergo a regression to the mean in future T20Is, that middle order role he played well in was very specific and wouldn't suit him at all if he is to bat at five. Glad to see that Shreyas wasn't included today, he shouldn't be in the T20 side if Kohli and Rahul play like their current versions.

Just to put it out there-

We have a spin bowling all rounder and a fast medium all rounder and these two have been showing this for a long time now. I have been saying this much before the 19 World Cup and it again shows the rubbish this team management and captain is.

Now that Pandya is not bowling, he needs to bat 5 and someone needs to bat 6 and give a few overs. Whether that is Dubey, Shankar or anyone else I don't know but given a proper run they can be developed. Considering the amount of cricket we play, this shouldn't be an excuse. But, the problem over the years has been the top 3 playing meaningless dead rubbers and not allowing the others to flourish or develop and when they have tried, they've played clowns like Jadhav as the all rounder.

Jadeja at six and someone like Tewatia (if he can be international-class) or Sundar at seven should be good. Get three seamers in there with Chahal and the T20I bowling unit looks extremely good. I wouldn't mind having that extra all-rounder at seven even if Hardik can bowl an over or two, I just believe that Hardik and Jadeja with the form they are in can bat at five and six while we don't really have any other good alternatives for those positions.

Teams around the world would be craving to have players like Hardik and Jadeja in their teams and here we are not sure of their places in the side. These 2 guys have proven their mettle on this tour. They deserve a permanent position to bat in this Indian team for sure.

On to the bowling, I am not surprised to see the bowlers get hit like this. There is no proper back-up plan. Deepak Chahar a new-ball specialist was taken off the attack since he gave away 14 runs in the first over? This is just ridiculous tactics!!! Shami is just having an off day. But all this has put Sundar under pressure. We need a couple of wickets right now.

Good thing they got Chahal in as the concussion substitute for Jadeja which might be the next big controversy in cricket.

And he drops a dolly off Chahar now. :lol[DOUBLEPOST=1607079020][/DOUBLEPOST]
Who is ready to see KL Rahul's tremendous IPL form going to waste under Kohli's captaincy? :wave me me me!!

Calling it tremendous when he was doing his best to anchor in a format that doesn't ask for it was really poor, just like today when he started slowly while the opposition have flown out of the blocks. To me, Mayank was the hidden gem in KXIP's lineup for ensuring quick starts nearly every time.

Now that Chahal has picked up a wicket, expect the concussion controversy to be a lot bigger. Especially if India actually somehow comeback into this game.

Haha, let's wait for tomorrow's headlines! Tbh, there should be substitutes allowed for whatever the injury might end up being and not just concussion, and that's a lot bigger discussion.

The thing is, these pitches in Australia are batting beauties and it was evident in the ODIs. Playing an extra all-rounder for a batsman is not a bad idea on such pitches. Jadeja is almost as adept as Manish or Samson with the bat. Also Sundar and Chahar can bat too. Mostly the top order is going to score most runs.

Well, I am happy to be proven wrong here. Jadeja batted really well and was probably my man of the match.

BTW, Justin Langer can fearsome tweak right off. How the hell India played within the rules and won the game? Doesn't he realize that concussion symptom does not always appear straight away and can appear after some time as well. Plus the closest like-for-like replacement India could have picked was Chahal since Washington was already in the final 11.

This is my problem with Cricket. If a rule has been introduced and has been approved by ICC, don't bring the spirit of cricket bullshit into it. If everyone has so many problems with rules like this, why approve them in the first place? As Virat said, today it went into India's favour, tomorrow it might not. We can not complain about it anymore since the rule is approved by the ICC.

India's team has always been there. It has always had this depth and staggering talent. I saw the battering the Aussie side of 00 gave and this team had the same potential. In a way, it is Dhoni's legacy. But, this team has been managed worse than any other Indian side and that includes the Chappell saga.

Rahul
Rohit
Kohli
Surya Kumar Yadav
Kishan/Pant
Pandya
Jadeja
Bhuvi
Shami
Bumrah
Chahal

D Chahar, Natarajan, Kuldeep, Shreyas and Dhawan on the bench.

I think having a tournament like IPL before such a big tour was always going to cost us few players who were falling into the trap of injury. I think the team management and the BCCI could've asked few players to pull out of IPL to stay fit for this tour. Especially players like Jadeja, Ishant Sharma, R Ashwin and Jasprit Bumrah should not have played all the matches. I think we failed terribly in the workload management of certain players. I won't be surprised to see Ashwin being injured midway through the Test series.

Missing out Jadeja shortens our batting line-up as we would have a batter less in the line-up

I think we can go with this side for tomorrow

1. Dhawan
2. KL Rahul
3. Virat Kohli
4. Sanju Samson
5. Manish Pandey
6. Hardik Pandya
7. Washington Sundar
8. Shardul Thakur
9. Deepak Chahar
10. Mohammed Shami/ Saini
11. Yuzvendra Chahal

So since we don't have Jadeja we can promote Sundar to 7 and trust his batting abilities also not to forget that the guy has opened in TNPL so he does have a decent skill required to play at that spot. Also Shardul Thakur adds to our batting strength and he definitely would be a decent bowler if not good in this format. Deepak Chahar is a must to this line-up. I think we could have Saini in place of Shami but I think Shami deserves another chance looking at the way he has been bowling recently. Despite conceding 46 runs in 4 overs I am sure he could be our best bowler at the SCG. Chahal would continue to play. I think considering we have a Test Series to go and our ace bowler being injured, we need to rest Bumrah for the T20Is. Very unfortunately Natarajan will have to sit out since he doesn't have the batting to deliver.

Do you still think international cricket is valued higher than IPL? From what I see, the IPL is a massive cash cow now for the BCCI. Despite other leagues happening around the world, its only the IPL that gets crazy eyeballs and players around the world wanting to display their wares in it. Its already started, and it will soon get to a place where "people keep themselves fit for IPL by opting out of international games and no one will question them"

Also this IPL came after an unforeseen lockdown where cricket came to a standstill for months. So it is natural that players were itching to get back on the field and play whatever cricket that is being played. So cant expect the players also to take a call to keep themselves fit for international cricket.

Sundar's also played in the middle order for Tamil Nadu and has been played as a pure batsman at times too. Needs a bit of work to be truly international class as an all-rounder but the potential is very much there. Hope he doesn't go the way of an Ashwin with the bat or is conserved for years like Jadeja.

I don't agree with Natarajan being dropped. You don't drop the best pacer in the previous game for anyone let alone Shardul Thakur. Now I've witnessed the massive improvement in Thakur's white ball skill over the last three years but if he is to play, it has to be ahead of Shami who can also leak runs at the death potentially. Chahar's no mug with the bat either, he is solid for a number eight. Hardik may need to bowl an over or two in any case. I don't think the harder SCG pitch will suit Natarajan as much as Canberra's but I would still back him for now and see what he delivers.

I also would prefer having Mayank in the team. Yes, it does mean that we have no left-handed batsmen in the XI but if this wasn't an issue in the 2019 World Cup, it surely is not in a bilateral T20I. Get Mayank Agarwal in the team and have him play an aggressive role up top if Rahul is intent on doing his best 'Kohli' impression. I would have liked to see someone else given a try instead of Pandey but I really don't see anyone capable in the lineup replacing him. Might as well play him at six with Hardik coming in at five if he is to play as a specialist bat first.
