India tour of Australia Nov'20-Jan'21

Rohit's wicket might end up with loss for India. An experienced player throwing away his wicket like that... :facepalm
We were anyways down and out in this match. It's just that our bowlers have kept us in this match or else the match was over on Day 1 itself when Pucovski was dropped.

The similarity between India's 1st innings and 2nd innings is interesting. Both have ended the day with 2 wickets down, 70+ first wicket partnership, openers gone and #3 and #4 having played around 3-5 overs each. Will this end the same way then?

In any case, this is a monumental ask. If India manage to draw this one, it will be as good as having snatched the momentum from Australia going into the 4th Test. I do not forsee an Indian win but draw is plausible. Much of it depends on how much Rahane and Pujara bat tomorrow.

Also hearing news of people blaming Pujara for batting very defensively in the first innings. That's quite unfair. Why do we have this obsession of changing the way a player goes about his batting? My concern is that this criticism might make Pujara play outside his comfort zone and lose this wicket. I would have him 18* (90) over 25 (50) any day.

I will consider this a win situation for us even if we somehow manage to drag this till the 3rd session tomorrow & end up losing the game. We had our chances when we were batting especially the Pant-Pujara partnership but then collapsed as usual and the game just went away from us.

Australia are now just 2 wickets away from breaking into the long tail considering Jadeja is out for remainder of the tour & Pant will perhaps bat but situation is still not clear.

Thia is the 2nd string Indian side more like India A which has done reasonably well after the hammering in the first test and deserves a whole lot of credit for that.

Three debutant in the side - Siraj,Saini & Gill against a side like Australia in Australia is never easy but they have performed brilliantly which is a great sign & shows the potential depth of the Indian cricket and credits to whoever involved in that process.

Edit - I love watching test matches in Australia waking up early the excitement is always there was a 9 year kid when Dravid scored that 233 in Adelaide when we won that test match.and ended up winning the series in 2003/04, 2007/08 series will always be special India fought well & deserved to win that series if it wasn't for the shoddy umpiring decision that win at WACA will always be remembered.2011/12 was a disappointment & forgettable one and then the era of Kohli began in 2014 the first test could have gone either way , had our moment in Gabba but lost the plot overall that series was highly competitive and great to watch even though we lost 2-0. 2018/19 finally managed to win the series 2-1 and now in this series as well great to see the fightback from the side.

The 2nd best touring side in Australia since 2000s after South Africa considering how dominant Australia are at home.

Honestly speaking I think we have performed better this time as compared to 2018/19 tour. To lose players like Shami, Ishant and not having Kohli was already a setback and on top of it we were bowled out for 36 in the first Test which made things seemingly even more difficult for us. And then to go on to win at the MCG the way we did was one of the best comebacks for us in a long time and that would surely be remembered as one of the greatest victories of Indian Cricket on Australian soil. And if we ever do the improbable of drawing this match and then winning at the Gabba it should surely be termed as one of the greatest comebacks on the Australian soil by a visiting team. The only thing Australia had were better bowlers while the rest of the things were pretty much on par for both sides. I think Shami and Ishant would've made it incredibly tough for the Australian batsmen to be able to push India out of contention from winning this series. I would be happy to even take a 2-1 result in Australia's favour and infact I would be overjoyed with a 2-2 result.

The problem I am seeing is that India will be heavily compromised for the 4th test. We simply don't have the players. Bumrah himself is no 100% and bowling 130 clicks now. To me, we need a miracle tomorrow but I will not put it past this Indian team.

But then if we look into this then this is the problem of the team management that they did not have enough back-ups considering the Covid situation and all. So the players performance would surely be remembered for a long long time. In future we would certainly look at it as a series that we played putting past the global pandemic situation and with the loss of players and the result in the first match and yet managing to be this competitive. The racial abuse from the crowd just adds to the fire and the off-field controversy to this series. I would say, Rahane has done his job perfectly. Sad that he won't get another stint in near possible future. :(

Entire IPL roster should have flown to Australia

Its crazy how many injuries we have seen in this series - its a bit understandable after being indoors for so long. T20 can still be handled, but Test cricket is a different beast altogether. The performance has been commendable (despite us staring at a certain 2-1 score line tomorrow). I dont think we will be able to save the match tomorrow - the Aussie bowling is just too good to survive especially with such a long tail and no Jadeja.

Sad to see Pujara strike rate criticisms coming up again - if he must be criticized it must be for not playing a long innings and giving a significant contribution yet. His SR should not be questioned.

On a lighter note, we could easily have a top class Injured 'n' Niggled XI team by the end of this series:

Rohit (was injured in the first half)
Rahul
Kohli
-- 2 more contenders
Pant
Jadeja
Shami
Umesh
Ishant
Bhuvi

I have 0 issues with how Rohit got out in the second innings.
Just saw his dismissal and I completely agree to you. He wasn't even trying to loft the ball and infact it was just a very good ball bowled from Cummins which Rohit unfortunately timed way too well. A miss hit would've fallen well short of Starc. And I think he looked very much composed in his approach today. Probably one of the better innings from him in Test Cricket.

The people that criticise Pujara for the SR are the same people who will give lessons on how to not be "careless" to Rohit and Pant. They expect that the temperature should be the same to the degree they desire every morning they wake up as well.

I think a combination of multiple things has put India in this situation - some "let it loose attitude after the MCG win', 'the frequent injury breakdowns of their players that continues to thin their available resources', 'some players not playing at 100%'.

I still think India can fight hard to try and draw this test. But I dont think India have a chance to retain the BG trophy even if they draw this test as even at full strength, Gabba would've been a challenge and right now, we are running on low fuel in our engines. I do think that if India draw this SCG test, they can go back home with their heads held high and am pretty sure the media and experts will hail us a lot of the fight that we've shown post the 36 all out and Kohli's exit. Hope Rahane and Pujara bat out of their skins tomorrow. Might need more of that stonewalling from Ashwin too. But my mind says we'll lose it in the 2nd session :(

At 0:09 you can clearly hear "brown dog". Cleverly disguised by the disgusting pieces of scum, chanting his name in unison before the racist shout, so it isn’t caught on video, while still reaching the player. Failed. I bet they did the same with Bumrah.

That is some.... very special stuff from Rishabh Pant. I am not dreaming, but this combination of aggression and caution is how you save a test match.

India have still not saved this yet, but this is as good a fight that you can give when chasing such a mammoth total and trying to save the test. Nothing can now stop Rishabh Pant from playing 10-15 tests on the trot. As the commentators say, better pray that he gets better with the gloves, as his batting is game changing in a test match.

Pujara has been batting as good as he can! Two more sessions, and this test is saved! I am not confident we will get the 201 and I hope Pant doesn't go seeking that 201. He needs to continue his current game and not turn up the dial anytime soon.

Great to see those peanuts racially abusing a player who is playing his second test match. Solid stuff!
I don't think racists care if you've played 2 or 200 test matches.

My hearing must be going cause I can't make out anything beyond 'Siraj'
