India tour of Australia Nov'20-Jan'21

I am literally in tears right now.

From 36 allout to Breaching the fortress at the Gabbaitor this team has made us proud with their resilience effort.

This has to go down in India's history as the one of the greatest test series ever if not the greatest.

Can't bat, can't captain.

Questions do need to be asked of him for the manner in which they've relinquished a commanding position but this still is a bit of a kneejerk reaction IMO. He was vital with the bat in the first test and has been generally adequate for a number seven. From what I can see though, he does struggle sometimes to think clearly under pressure.

EDIT - There really isn't a good replacement for him either. Carey's worse with the gloves and equally average with the bat. Inglis should have been selected in the A Squad with a view to integrate him in the next year.

Not sure why you're too keen on dropping Paine, Wade as a specialist keeper is something that should never happen again.
Because Paine's keeping cost us Sydney, his captaincy cost us Melbourne, and there's no other good ones in Australia.
The next best is Carey (who's a much better LO player) and Bancroft (who hasn't kept in about three years)

As an outsider/neutral, I think it’s one of the greatest series and series wins of all time no question.

Away series victories are rare enough and Australia in particular is a visitors graveyard. To be humiliated in the first test, to have the captain unavailable, to have a ridiculous injury list, to have 2 matches go right to the wire and the whole series won in the last few overs of the last match, is just wow.

Test cricket is the greatest sport in the world.

Paine is substandard in every department

Wade has a worse average despite playing as a specialist batsman for quite some time and is extremely worse with the gloves. Inglis is the only other option I can see.

Where's Brad Haddin when you need him?

Just wanted to come back to this point, because it's interesting to me and I was just thinking more about it. I think England have a slightly better overall squad, with a good mix of experience and youth. However, there's a few factors that may work against them.
- Pitch conditions- the lack of swing was a story of the match/series.
- Inexperience in the English quarters- 3 of their likely top 6 have never played in Australia (Crawley, Sibley, and The Pope)

I think it'll be close. I'm obliged to tip Australia but I think this may be England's best chance since 2009. (notably, they don't have to have Monty, Garry Ballance and Scott Borthwick this time)
We will have a more mature Will Pucovski and Cam Green. Hopefully Jhye Richardon will have replaced Mitchell Starc. Not sure Warner will be still around. We do have a readymade replacement.. a leftie in the Geoff Boycott mould. Put the name Bryce Street in your little black book.. I'd like to be able to tell you who CA will choose as our captain after Tim Paine retires. No one has any idea. I am tipping Marnus Labuchagne.

I don’t know the Aussie game enough to suggest the alternative, but Paine as captain is a joke.

His record is average as a captain. Three home series wins against Pakistan, Sri Lanka and New Zealand (who might be the best ranked side in the world but were rolled over easily and I believe had their own injury problems). Drew the Ashes when they should've won (he literally threw away a review on a nothing chance thenfound wanting another just a couple of balls later). That series was mainly thanks to a GOAT performance from Smith. Lost at home twice to India - with Brisbane having echoes of Headingley where the Aussies failed to bat themselves into a commanding position that allowed some special performances to win to pull off two unlikely wins.

This series has raised my expectation that England could win the Ashes. Australia have just as many weaknesses as they have strengths. Now, very good chance I'll be proved wrong in 12 months time. :lol But if Australia win the Ashes I bet it'll be down to star players not their captain.

But, today is India's day. It was fantastic and not just cause I won money.
