India tour of England 2018

This idiot has the audacity to make comments like this:
https://www.cricbuzz.com/cricket-ne...d-the-same-run-as-this-one-india-cricket-team

no team had such a run in the last 15-20 years?

Dravid's XI won the Test series in England
Ganguly's XI almost won/tied the series Down Under against an invincible Aussie side.

This guy is pathetic. Instead of copping any blame, he is once again spewing nonsense

Absolutely spot on! The teams of Ganguly and Dravid faced a far more stronger opposition in those days than the opposition that Kohli's side has faced in recent times. And yet Ganguly's side has fared far better overseas. Kohli has only done better than Dhoni's side but Dhoni's side which got blanked 4-0 in England and Australia was an all time low.

I am happy former cricketers like Sehwag, Harbhajan, Ganguly, etc. are starting to tear into Shastri. I know guys like Sachin, Dravid, Laxman will keep quiet but people have to start calling the s**t out!

Baffled on why there's talk Vihari should be handed a debut. Karun Nair has been sitting on the bench for a couple of weeks. Isn't it fair that he play rather than a guy who just recently arrived? Karun Nair was selected as a backup to the middle order and he should definitely play if Pandya is dropped.

The hints are on that Dhawan-Rahul will continue and Vihari will play for Pandya. This is baffling and absolutely ridiculous to say the least. Thank god they are not saying that an less than 100% fit Ashwin is likely to play and that Jadeja will continue to sit out.

I can't understand how come you say 'Hardik Pandya will suit Australian conditions'. His bowling is medium pace at best and as he showed in the Trent Bridge test, he relies on conditions to get the swing that he got. If my knowledge/understanding of Aussie conditions is right, I don't think it will swing much there. Yes his batting could flourish a lot more there for the same reason (that it wont swing as much) but if we are picking him only for his batting, we'd rather pick a more specialist batsman who is sitting on the sidelines within the squad (like a Karun Nair who was part of the squad here in England).

Mediocre players like Mitchell Marsh have proven to be effective on Australian pitches, I don't see any reason as to why Pandya cannot be. Plus his bowling will be needed a lot more in Australia than in England in terms of workload, even taking into account the rather pathetic state of the Australian team.

Read somewhere on FB yesterday that the CAC (comprising of Ganguly, Sachin and Laxman) had decided on roping in Dravid as batting coach and Zaheer as bowling coach and that both Dravid/Zaheer were asked to speak with Shastri before their appointments were firmed up. However after speaking to Shastri, both Dravid and Zaheer opted out of the arrangement and Shastri decided to bring his own counsel (Bangar, Arun) into the team. Well, I wouldn't be surprised if Kohli had a hand in this. It looks like they do not want any self respecting individual behind the scenes who gives a piece of their own mind to Kohli. That's the reason why Kumble was forced out.

When did India provide this much of power to an Indian captain to mould the team according to his own whims and fancies?

Ever since Kumble departed, it was obvious Kohli was behind it. No matter how good a batter he is, he alone cannot win us matches. If he can't get a squad together he needs to go to. Simple.

There is no way Cook's last Test will end up with an Indian victory. There, I said it.

The India fans, like me are reacting emotionally without understanding the tact behind the scenes.

Ravi Shastri is a nobody. Virat Kohli is everything. If anyone feels Kohli is in danger of losing his post, they are dreaming. He and Shastri are not going to be replaced even if the Ganges dry up. Not until the 2019 world cup. I don't think Kohli can be overthrown even if we get knocked out in the round robin's. Not with the way he is batting.

Tendulkar was by far the most powerful cricketer till he retired and now Kohli is. It's the law of the jungle. If we win the world cup, this partnership is going to go on perhaps till 2023. It's very heart breaking but this is how it is. I really hope Dravid and Khan don't come into the fray. I don't want them humiliated by Kohli and co.

For a while, I was very skeptical of India having a four man bowling attack. It certainly didn't work in 2013-2014 where the fast bowlers were all very inconsistent. However, now it's changed with India having quality fast bowlers in the wings and it's time we play a four man bowling attack minus Pandya and add a specialist batsman at 6. Now that the next overseas tour is in Australia, India need to go in with six batters and four specialist bowlers. Four man attack worked for the Aussies during the Ashes series while they played six batsmen and it worked out perfectly for them. I believe that India's bowling attack is good enough to match Australia's bowlers and four bowlers is enough.

The series could easily have been 3-1 in Indias  favour - Ravi Shastri

Preview

The final Test of a long and absorbing summer is upon us. With England already having sewn up the series in Southampton, there is a risk this game could be somewhat of a non-event. But two reasons make that unlikely. Firstly, it will be Alastair Cook's final Test in an England shirt which should make it a memorable and emotional occasion. And secondly, Virat Kohli is not the sort of captain to simply lay down and die. His Indian team will be up for this game.

A 4-1 victory for England would be a fantastic result considering they were slight underdogs at the start of the series while India would probably feel hard done by if things were to finish up that way. A 3-2 defeat for Kohli's men would arguably be a fairer reflection of the state of the two teams but England will do well to remind themselves of their 2016 tour to India when the home side ground them into the dust in the final match in Chennai, scoring a mammoth 759/7 declared. The best teams are uncompromising.

There will also certainly be plenty at stake for individuals on both sides. For England, their series win has not been able to gloss over serious deficiencies with their top order batting and Cook's retirement will only exacerbate that problem. Keaton Jennings needs a score ahead of the winter and Moeen Ali will probably have a chance to nail down the number three spot. Similarly, India's batsmen, Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara apart, have plenty to prove ahead of their next Test assignment, a home series against West Indies.

It would be fitting for such a brilliant series, which has been so full of ebb and flow and skill and calamity, with a healthy balance between bat and ball, that the final Test at The Oval is another match high on drama. A close game would reflect well on the series so far. And who would begrudge Alastair Cook hitting the winning runs, to seal his match-winning hundred and England's victory, late on day five? We can only hope for a perfect send-off for a true England great.

When: Friday September 7, 2018

Where: The Oval, London

What to expect: Although there has been some rain around in the week preceeding the game, The Oval surface is likely to be flat and true, which would be a welcome relief for the batsmen on both sides after tough four games. The weather is set fair for all five days.

Team News

England

Captain Joe Root has confirmed that England will be unchanged for The Oval Test with Moeen Ali batting at three, just as he did in the second innings at the Ageas Bowl, and Jonny Bairstow returning as wicket-keeper having fully recovered from a finger injury sustained at Trent Bridge. The home side have resisted the temptation to rest either James Anderson and Stuart Broad, and both will take the new ball.

Playing XI: Alastair Cook, Keaton Jennings, Moeen Ali, Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler, Adil Rashid, Sam Curran, Stuart Broad, James Anderson

India

The visitors could make two changes to their line-up with left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja likely to come into the side to replace R Ashwin, who struggled in Southampton with a groin issue. Opener KL Rahul looks likely to retain his spot, while Hanuma Vihari looks set to play his maiden game, coming in place of Hardik Pandya.

Probable XI: KL Rahul, Shikhar Dhawan, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, Hanuma Vihari, Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja, Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah

Did You Know

- Virat Kohli needs 59 more runs to go past Rahul Dravid (602 runs in 2002) for the highest series aggregate for an Indian player in England.

- India have lost their last two Tests at the Oval by innings margins - innings & 8 runs in 2011 and innings and 244 runs in 2014.

- The openers have batted 30 innings among them so far this series without a single 50+ score. Never before in a five-Test series did the openers fail to go past 50 even once.

Good luck Virat Kohli from Planet cricket to hits 59 more to break record of 602 (Aggregates) by Rahul Dravid in England (2002)

I think someone else should given chance vs WI (Oct 04-16)at home in place of Hardik.

Cook need 1 more for 1000 runs at oval

Kohli need 88 more to break Mohd Yusuf
Record of 631 in england

Kohli need 56 runs more to hits 600 runs 4 times in test series.
