India tour of England 2018

Amazing victory. Pandya was the difference with the ball and he was awesome with the bat too. And when Rohit is in the zone, he is unbeatable.

@AliB would be happy today :p

With due credit, it was a brilliant innings from Rohit Sharma! He has sealed the debate about his value to the limited overs side. He is undroppable. It's Dhawan who is on sticky ground now with 3 consecutive failures. And due credit to Hardik Pandya, who got those wickets when England were sizing up their charge. And he also showed his value with the bat in the end, coming out and finishing things off quickly.

ODI's should be very interesting. If India can do this in T20, they should get better in ODI's (the shorter the format, the more vulnerable India are). Also the ODI series could potentially be a dress rehearsal among the potential World Cup finalists of next year.

Just wanna say it - Every batsman doesn't score in every game but when it's his day a normal batsman scores 50s-60s in T20s but Rohit scores hundreds!

I have to agree with you. He is not at all consistent if you meany KL Rahul. He has to learn consistency from Rohit Sharma who fails innings after innings now that is some consistency correct? KL Rahul is just an ordinary player who is scoring runs and has failed few times. He has to consistently fail and give competition to Rohit Sharma
What about today? Opps i forgot it was complete road pitch.

Well played Rohit Sharma. If I will criticize you, I will appreciate the magnificent innings you play as well. Lets hope you continue to play this way and not go on for a hibernation mode for all other matches which is your usp.

Also Rohit definitely deserved the MOM but MOS seriously? One 100 and you are man of the series? Nope

Solid win for us, we made it look so easy to chase 200 in a T20. Roy played really well, never really doubted Rohit's ability while we gotta agree he has not been consistent but I wouldn't drop him either. If we've to chase a big target at least for me the ones I'd rely on/think of are Kohli, Dhoni(whenever he's there you know everything is possible) and Rohit. I really hope he does consistently well after this since the WC isn't too far and he's pretty much in the squad.

I think after a very long time Rohit has scored a match winning knock in a game that has mattered. It was a brutal knock. And he was ON from the word go. Fantastic to watch

Hoping for many more knocks of value on this tour and in the world cup... And I will happily take back all my critique of Rohit Sharma

England meanwhile getting a taste of their own medicine, being unable to defend a high score on a belter

To be fair, MOS usually ends up going to the highest scorer of a series. And that is Rohit after this game outscoring Rahul by 7-8 runs

Nothing wrong with it imo

Timely innings from Rohit! Today's win shows the depth of Indian cricket!

Again, Rohit never was droppable in my book. I see some people pointing the finger at Dhawan but he also in my book is undroppable. I will again say that Kohli should bat 3, Rahul & Dhawan at the top and Rohit at 4.

I'm surprised af that Kohli isn't getting more grief for dropping Kuldeep!

Highest targets chased down by India (T20Is):

207 vs SL, Mohali, 2009
202 vs Aus, Rajkot, 2013
199 vs Eng, Bristol, 2018 *

Most T20I hundreds:
3 C Munro/ ROHIT SHARMA
2 B McCullum/ C Gayle/ E Lewis/ M Guptill/ G Maxwell/ A Finch/ KL Rahul

Most consecutive T20I series wins:
9 by Pakistan (Sep 2016 - ongoing) *
6 by India (Nov 2017 - ongoing) *
5 by Windies (Jun 2012 - Mar 2013)

Congratulations and good luck for 3 ODI
From Thursday July 12 vs England

Eng dropping mo dispite his 4w because Bristol not good for their (kuldeep) type
Bowling plus smallest ground, kohli afraid
Spinner might spank heavily.

My mo..m pandya

1/0/22/0
3/0/16/4
And
14 ball 33*

If one spinner had to be played then it was a no brainer who it should have been. His poor captaincy is masked heavily by the sheer depth and quality of this side.

IMO, putting Rohit at 4 in T20's is not a very good idea. Him as opener is the best way to get some runs out of him. He's been most comfortable batting there and he's scored the bulk of his runs there. Putting him at 4 will make him fail. He doesn't rotate the strike a whole lot, which is crucial in the middle overs and he generally takes his time building dots. It would be different story in ODIs though. People keep referring back to when he batted in the middle order, but it's a serious shift if you haven't done so for India in a certain amount of years. Even after that knock yesterday, it puts him further back from batting in the middle order.

It looks like India will have to go with this setup. It's unfortunate having our best batsman at 4, where he isn't able to score a lot of runs. But with quality players knocking down the doors, it seems it will have to remain that way unless someone loses form, but it wouldn't happen until a couple of months later.

Dhawan shouldn't and won't be dropped. He was a valuable asset for SRH in this year's IPL, and after losing form in 2016-17, he's came back strong. He had some bizarre dismissals and some unlucky moments as well. It will take him about five more matches to be dropped if he doesn't score. This will keep Rahul at 3 for the next few T20 series.

Even though I am opposed to Rohit at 4 in T20's, it might be better to accommodate him at 4 in ODIs. He generally takes his time, and in ODI's time is not a massive issue as it is in T20, with conceding dots being crucial. If he bats at 4, he will come in mostly around the 20th over mark, giving him 30 overs to score. And he would bat well with either Rahul/Dhawan/Kohli who play briskly in the middle overs anyway, allowing Rohit to settle himself down before he is able to hit around the 40th over mark or even before. Rahul is in the form of his life. With that sort of confidence he can do wonders for India. Putting him at 4 wouldn't be a bad idea, as he could bat around 30 overs, but if he settles in opening he can make a huge score.

It's pleasing to see Indian team actually is the best compilation of world cricket at the moment. We've got the West Indian batting flair at the top as Rohit, Solidity like Viv Richards at No.3/4 as VK, Pure GOD with Gloves in MSD, even pretty qualified DK is awaiting at the back, Quality pace battery, that reminds me of the Australian Trio (McGrath, Lee, Gillespie) from 2001-05, Add the classy chinaman like Hoggy as Kuldeep and Bumrah, a Malinga like yorkING, to the mix. And of course a solid bench strength like 1998-99's South Africa and 2003's Australia.

No wonder this is the golden age of Indian Cricket, and there will be no surprise either if they reclaim No.1 ODI status again following this ODI series and No. 1 T20 status sometimes down the line.

I'll break down your posts to multiple quotes to make you understand about Rahul and opening position:

Even Don Bradman had best average in the history of cricket. So did that mean he should be playing all the years and not retire? Just an example.

He is definitely not being judged for not performing in a tour. If it was so, he wouldn't have been in the squad for England tour.

There were many points in your post which I wanted to quote but it takes a hell lot of time. So let me continue this: Do you remember champions trophy 2013? Was Rohit a genuine opener or had been opening the innings for India regularly before that? But still Dhoni promoted him from middle order to open the innings. And you are talking about 11 months remaining for WC. How it is not possible to ask Rahul to open and Rohit to bat in middle order? You have 11 months and there are number of series to get that balance. For your kind information, Rahul is a genuine opener who was asked to bat at no.4 in IPL 2016. He performed and people started considering him as middle order batsman but the fact is that he is the genuine opener. Rohit was the middle order batsman for many years and he can easily go back to his previous position when compared to Rahul who has played very limited games in middle order.

With Rahul in opening slot and Rohit in the middle order, middle order gets more experienced batsman which we were looking for sometime now.

Come again! Will you? Should try to get the better out off the player and not the worst! After playing 5 years at the opening slot and suddenly bringing him back to 4 isn't going to help out the team, instead it would be a serious threat to the team's greatest strength which the top order is. Selectors will stick with him to open the innings until he is there in the team. Just breakdown his careeer stats into pre-Champions Trophy 2013, post-Champions Trophy 2013 and post 2015 and you know where Rohit stands as a middle order batsman and where he stands while opening!
