great century by Vettori. Really pulled his team out of a big hole. Captains innings.

Brilliant from Vettori, pulling us out of trouble once again!

I am not sold on McIntosh he doesn't have a great technique I can see him getting dropped before to long. Guptill and How (When he finds some form) for me.

I am still annoyed about the Franklin decision he is a class player and if he doesn't do well in the second innings I hope they don't discard him quickly.

Thats why you got to remove this guy in that first session... Whenever I have seen him bat, he has been a pain in the arse. DAMN!

All our first session work has been duly wasted. By the time the day comes to an end, people will start questioning Dhoni for opting to bowl first (when after the first session, people were praising Dhoni to the skies for opting to bowl). He did the right thing. We just are not able to take care of this Vettori guy again.

Wow, what an innings by Vettori, I will never doubt his credentials as an allrounder again, rescuing a team with a ton from the wreckage of 6 for 60 is no mean feat.

Time for Ryder to have a slog O'Brien and Martin will not last long.

I'm sure people can make it seem like the game has hinged on the captain's decision, but it's really a prime example of how the captain's decisions don't mean as much as they're made out to.

If India had bowled a bad length or if NZ had batted with a bit more composure, it probably wouldn't look like a great decision, in spite of there being early movement. NZ could have gotten starts and fought harder for their wickets. Just one mediocre little 30 from one of the top 3 could have saved the loss of 4 wickets.

In such conditions it's more about what you want to happen than what is going to happen; both captains had a different intent, without either of them really being wrong. Dhoni wanted to use the early movement to gain an early advantage, while Vettori, who was happy to bat, would have felt that batting would be good after the new ball wore out. Even though Dhoni seems to have come away with the advantage, the only thing wrong with Vettori's plan was the execution by his players.

New Zealand all out with about 10 overs left until stumps.

Not a bad time to be bowled out, will be interesting to see how Sehwag goes here, I'm half expecting him to fall cheaply.

how dumb was O'Brien!!! Great Innings from Vettori though true captains knock, Ryder batted really well was patient and also hit he bad ball, a well deserved maiden ton, although i didnt think he was going to get there at one point :p

Sehwag is enjoying Mills's bowling isnt he

I remember something like this pitch was indeed predicted as a good batting track. Even in that cricket show they were sayin like on Day 3, it would be an ideal batting track. Lets see..

Way the things are going, may be Kiwi batsmen could have had bit more patience for bigger score. But with 60/6, kiwi men(Vettori and Ryder) have fought back exceptionally well :hpraise

It's time for our batters to take a healthy lead. Lead of 250-300 is must needed for getting the result in India's favor. Lets see :onpc

I think all of these went into Dhoni's decision-making though. He expected his bowlers to do better against the New Zealand batsmen than his batsmen against the Kiwi bowlers. For example, if their opponents had a couple of quality, settled openers, Dhoni would have thought twice before putting the opposition into bat.

I'm glad Ryder went on and got his hundred. It was 100% deserved. He looks so good. He looks like he does it easy out there. I love his temperament. Number 5 is his spot now. His record at 5 is a very impressive start. After 60-6 i'm happy with the runs we scored obviously. Vettori showed his class and that he fights. Under-rated batsman STILL.

The bowling was disgusting. Martin was good at times but too many balls down leg and a gift first ball up and Mills shouldn't have been in the side let alone given the new ball to waste. Either O'Brien or Franklin (there was a bit of swing and he was the best bet going across/in to Sehwag) shoulda had it. Too late now. Mills won't get another game i'd say. Sehwag looks good again, but he'll give us chances tomorrow. We just have to take them.

I already know we're going to lose the series, I just don't want us to get totally hammered. At least we take 2 centuries out of the game if nothing else.

Now I am afraid, that tomorrow's first session .. whether it will go like Kiwi's :( Because first session of tomorrow is so crucial now, especially the first one hour batsmen should not do any mistakes.

I remember in one of the recent test matches between Aus and Sa, they were loosing wickets like pack of cards on every first session but at the same time, there were runs coming in huge as well during the last sessions of the day.

Once again, I keep my fingers crossed! :upray

I agree.. I am expecting India to break up a little tomorrow morning coz its the morning session that counts. Rahul Dravid is again the key. If he can bat us through till lunch, it would be really good, but he isnt the same old Dravid anymore. I am expecting any one of Sehwag or Gambhir to fall early tomorrow.

Exceptional batting from Ryder and Vettori. I would say NZ finished even on day 1. Brilliant stuff from them. Not too optimistic about India now.
