there's something wrong with NZ just now. this side has tons more talent than they've had for a while but no application.

what on earth is taylor doing? I thought he'd turn into a special player but I've quickly changed my mind about that. he should be batting at 6 or something, he's nothing but carefree bludgeoner.

At least Ryder looks an absolute class act, the worry is though so many of the these new zealand guys seem to hit purple patches and then play absolutely dire.

McIntosh has a horrible technique. Was another BAD decision against us. About 4 this series and none at India thus far. If anything WE need the umpire advantage if we're going to win or even draw a game. Can't believe John Wright would select McIntosh with that technique. Disgusting!

How's bad too. Looked horrible.

Luckily Ryder looks world class again. Taylor's struggling a little but he's due some runs. I'd back these guys to put on a big partnership here. 2 best batsmen. McCullum has to come in next IMO.

Oh, and about Taylor, he's got 2 hundreds and has only played 15 tests. Not many NZ players end up with 2 hundreds from 15 games. He's got a lot of years ahead of him.

the pitch is extremely flat,i dont see the kiwis bowling out the indians on this pitch.

personally I think it's time vettori stepped up as captain and took the no.6 spot.

his stats are a number 6s, needs to back himself. I like keeping the hard hitting keeper at 7.

seriously though, how good a player does Ryder look? (right now anyway) the way he plays is exceptional, so much time, hand eye co-ordination, plays late, his footwork is pretty good too considering he's got the the eye to stay routed and batter it like sehwag.

I've already said this, and it sounds insane, but seriously, find a video of graeme pollock batting then look at Ryder. it's frightening how similar they look, of course it takes a smart head and nerves of steel to make the kind of scores pollock did but it's not a bad start having the technique.

He does have a long career ahead of him but making half centuries more consistently will improve his chances of making hundreds, obviously. ATM he is scoring one 50 every 7 innings. Not ripping on the guy just saying.

He is a great talent for NZ and can become one of the best batsman in cricket over the next 5-10 years. The key for him and NZ at this moment is consistency.

Well 1 in 4.6 innings including the hundreds, which is pretty good for a NZ player.

Agreed with the rest. He's been more responsible as of late. Hasn't shown it early here today. Here's hoping he plays straight and doesn't play those horrible Twenty/20 shots he gets tempted into from time to time.

Big partnership brewing I hope. These 2 look good now.

Looks like NZ woes for finding an opener continues. That Guptill has the technique to go on, he was a bit iffy on the ball just outside offstump during the ODI series against us but compared to the other openers you guys have tried he looks the best of the lot.

It's interesting how they were talking about Phil Hughes' swaying technique in the Test just the other day and how important it is when dealing with short balls from an opposite handed bowler. Guptil's demonstration compliments it perfectly, he didn't lean out of the way quickly enough and he didn't drop his hands, now he is out.

Great partnership. This has been a fantastic session. We've smashed India all over the place.

Taylor's hundred was pretty lucky, but I think we've been due a bit of luck anyway. He looked horrible on 99 haha. The right after he played 2 beautiful shots out of the middle and edged again. Now hopefully Ryder makes it hundreds in back to back games. What an exciting 2 talents for our future. Now if we can just find some decent openers.

ARGH! Taylor ALWAYS out to that shot. I'm tired of it. He wasn't greedy enough. Should have gone for 200. Silly silly, but a good innings from him for most of it. Hopefully Ryder can make 150+ now too and Franklin can support.

Good partnership between Taylor and Ryder, they really have scored at a quick rate. NZ could even make 400 in a day which would be quite the change from the 1st test. Hope they can go on to win it from here.

Runs have dried up after Taylor's dismissal. It was better to let McCullum come in to bat.

So far Franklin didn't score a run of 13 balls. He is a better batsman then that.

And good to see finally a cricinfo preview prediction coming true: at the start of the match it was supposed to be a good pitch seamers and later on it would flatten, so runs were expected then. And that's just the way it happened today.

Sehwags captaincy hasn't impressed me, cant help but feel that India would have been in a much better position if Dhoni was playing.

good knock by Ryder btw.
