India need to look for the kill here and grab a 2-0 victory in the series. With the exception of rain, there is little excuse for not winning this game. We should be able to secure 300 more runs tomorrow which will have us 533 runs ahead which is more than enough runs. Two days to bowl out New Zealand should be plenty of time and by batting tomorrow, there is no risk of endangering the series to a potential draw. Zaheer Khan may not deliver to the armchair statistician, but his spell today is a tribute to his cannyness with the ball, to put in the extra effort when the track demands it and extract so much out of a pretty normal track. Credit to Harbhajan Singh too, he may be an idiot, but he sure can bowl. To pick up 3/49 outside the subcontinent on a day two pitch is a tribute to how much he has matured as a bowler. He is joint wicket taker with Chris Martin and I think that such a performance should be lauded for a bowler often criticised as a subcontinent track bully who lacks imagination with the ball.

I think it'd be best to ensure that the Indian bowlers get a rest tomorrow as it will need to be a high intensity effort to pry out New Zealand's batsmen who I'm sure will be defiant in their attempts to draw the match.

0 voters said that under 300 was the par score and so it must be said that either the majority are idiots (let's not rule that one out); India batted very well, New Zealand poorly or a combination of both.

Great play by India. A win here would round off an outstanding season with test and ODI wins over Australia, England and now hopefully New Zealand.

The Monk can't wait to get back to Delhi to eat some butter chicken. :p

He he... Yes! This guy just pisses people off most of the time because he just doesnt want to listen. He is so stubborn on playing his so-called 'natural game' that he has become a hit and miss type of test opener (luckily he is clicking most often than not).

I feel in the future, Sehwag should be pushed down the order and we should bring a classical opener (someone like Murali Vijay or Dhawan). Gambhir can be aggressive and can bat long hours when needed. The other guy needs to be more of the style of an opener than being one like Sehwag. Right now, let Sehwag continue but somewhere down the line, he will see more failures than success if he continues treading the "I will only play my natural game" road.

Dravid said perfectly in a recent article where he told "I dont understand what you mean by 'playing your natural game'. You got to play according to the situation, no matter what".

Gambhir gets another half century! What a player!!! This guy right now is arguably the world's best opening test batsman. He has showed aggression, he has showed tremendous amount of patience when the conditions are tough (I couldnt believe that Gambhir can be that batsman who does the dirty work like Rahul Dravid). Most often, he has had Dravid at the other end in this series, for company and tips which should surely help him.

If he continues like this for the next 6 odd years, he has the chance to end up as India's best ever opening batsman. Hope he continues in the same vein.

Superb batting from Gambhir and Dravid! 108 runs already with 12 more minutes to go for lunch. We are technically 341/1 with 2 and a half days to go. If we bat through the day today, we should have a lead of close to 570 which is atleast 170 more runs than what we need.

I feel NZ will be truly squeezed today by India's batting. Dravid's chance here to get that elusive century (to round off a brilliant tour) and Gauti can also get a century here. I AM ENJOYING IT!!! LUV INDIA!!

Edit: Oh damn! I thought the posts would be merged! Sorry for the double....

What a tour this has been for Rahul Dravid. I can't tell you how happy I am that he is back in form. The media and all Dravid haters will finally shut up now.

Truly, apart from one innings where he was not out (and guided India to victory at Hamilton), all his innings have been 50+ scores. If he gets a hundred here (I pray he does), would be a smashing thing for him and all his fans. This guy finally will get his chance to go out on a high (I was so worried he might not get to do it when he went through that horror patch). Best players are those that who learn from those patches and turn it around as quickly possible and Dravid has done it.

Edit: What thinking from McCullum? Superb! Dravid missed out again courtesy a magical piece of keeping. Whatever I have seen of McCullum in this series, I have been very impressed. Can be one of the best keepers of the generation! The catch he took off Zaheer Khan on the first day was freakish!

I don't understand why India is still playing cautiously. They're currently 412 runs ahead and the current partnershiprunrate is of 1.91 from 12 overs. If they start attacking they could be 600 runs ahead at the end of the day. And with that amount of runs they'll be certain that they've won the Test series.

Its funny to see the crowds chanting 'We want sixer' and Laxman as usual coming front for a forward defensive shot.
Gambhir walks down the track and smacks vettori over long on.Great stuff.

What a game of Cricket!! Guys we don't see such sort of cricket very usual it's 474* lead at the 3rd day of test..

Gambhir :hpraise & VVS on 43 :happy

550-600 ? target for NZ enough?

550 would be more than enough. If we lose after it,, we dont deserve it. We got to declare tomorrow morning after playing 3-5 overs (just to keep NZ guessing). By then, we should have 560 odd runs as lead.

Gambhir played a huge innings. Laxman is batting as well as he did in Napier. NZ will have a huge mountain to climb but cant rule out a miracle coz the pitch still looks good for batting.
