Indian cricket's darkest hour - The Greg Chappell saga

This will only give SRT haters , the chance of mudding Him by barking that he just wanted to catch the eyes for his book!

I think a handful of online haters is nothing compared to what Sachin has handled throughout his career.

And when this dark phase was going on, he kept silent and went about his business like a true professional and cricket lover. His love for cricket and integrity were questioned by Chappelle and media and cricket fans. It is about time he shared his side of the tale with brutal honesty :) He deserves it

That guy is crazy. Most of the big guys of Indian cricket like Tendulkar, Ganguly and Laxman have come out against him (seeing abhi's comment above that Laxman has confirmed the story). If Chappell thinks people would believe him rather than Tendulkar, Ganguly or Laxman, he is living in a fantasy world.

Harbhajan has also openly come out in favor of Sachin.

No Doubt , Greg Chappell was the 'BAD MAN' for the Indian team!
But this incidence won't bring any good to any1 especially for a personality like SRT.

BTW! Bhajji also supported Sachin in a TV interview today revealing the Divide & Rule policy of Chappell!

As for the haters, if then can find a way to say 18000 Runs and 100 100s is nothing special, then frankly they lost their relevance long ago. If they have criticise him regardless of what he did, then them saying negative stuff about his book is frankly par for the course. If it wasn't the 'sensationlist' reason, they would hvae a go at his book for being boring and containing nothing interesting.

As for me, I feel that SRT has led as discreet a life a cricketer of his stature could lead, no controversies, no sensational interviews, no angry comments against anyone. Now that he has retired, he must give us the full and brazen version. Too many ppl have taken cheapshots at SRT in order to sell their books. However if SRT is telling his story it must be the complete one, and the truth. If Greg Chappell was an A$$hole then I would like Sachin to say as much.

Which he has, so well done to him.

Well this is not good. Its almost like Sachin has opened a new can of worms.

Ganguly probably over-reacted to Sachin's comments in his book, and probably tried to pass off what his opinion was, as something that "Dravid said". If you ask me who would you believe between Sachin and Greg Chappell, with closed eyes and ears, I would say Sachin. But between Ganguly and Dravid, I am inclined to side with Dravid here. I strongly believe Dravid is not a guy who would lie. I am pretty sure that if he doesn't want to accept a certain truth, he will probably keep quiet, but if he is strongly saying that he did not give out a statement like that, then I am confident he is right.

This is an interesting twist to the tail. If Dravid hasn't lied , then who has.
Either Dravid really knows nothing of that or he just don't want to get into the worms.

Dravid rubbishes Ganguly's claim (that Dravid said to Ganguly that he couldn't control Chappell), and Greg Chappell rubbishes Tendulkar's claim (made in his book; that Chappell asked Sachin to take over captaincy from Dravid). One of them in each of these two pairs, is definitely lying. The more straightforward hypothesis is that Chappell is lying to save his reputation from getting damaged further. But its a very tough thing to say who among Ganguly or Dravid is lying.

Also one more major thing in Tendulkar's defence is that, he has absolutely no need to bring this issue up to sell his book. An autobiography on Sachin Tendulkar will be the biggest thing in the market anytime, more so right now when its just a year since he retired and his retirement is still fresh in public memory.

This was supposed to be the book for many to read and get motivated to achieve success despite challenges, I was even surprised that Tendulkar has opened such a sensitive topic for the sake of a book. There are multiple young age incidents for him( during his very early Aussie tours ) which are very inspiring! They used to come in sportstar magazines and I even have a book with pictures of Sachin that I used to cut from those magazines and collect in my childhood. :)

Anyways, Chappell - Indian team is gone story and I personally don't even bother to turn that page on this book!

Frankly none need to be lying. Even if there was a conversation between Dravid and Ganguly, I doubt Dravid would have said the exact words - "I cannot handle Chappell" or something to that effect.

However there is nothing to say there wasn't a conversation where while those exact words needn't have been said, the overall context of the conversation, could still have carried that message. Which is why after years Ganguly remembers the conversation as Dravid saying he dosn't know what to do with Chappell, and Dravid going hold on, I never said that.

I don't know why people are surprised and why they feel this topic shouldn't be opened.

The man (SRT) has maintained his dignity and composure throughout his playing career. Never uttered a bad word against anyone - rivals, management, media or fans. And all this despite being met with some fair and some extremely unfair, aggressive criticism. It is about time we heard his side of the story and what he felt about these issues. I am sure there will be MANY inspiring sections in the book, but the dark times need to be discussed as well.

Kumble is one guy missing here.

Good to see Dravid and Ganguly on the same dias although Dravid has just given some media fodder that he never said what Ganguly says he said (about "not being able to controll Chappell"). Wish these four can one day play an exhibition match where all of them play together in the same team.

Slightly off-topic, but maybe this can be the thread to discuss all things related to Playing It My Way. Anjali Tendulkar talks about her first meeting with Sachin. Nice read :)

“I had gone to pick my mother and then I saw him and my friend told me he is the wonder boy of Indian cricket. I told my friend, Oh! he is so cute. Then I ran after him and I forgot about my mother,” Anjali said, recollecting the moments. ”Sachin was so embarrassed and did not even look at me.”
