Indian Domestic Cricket

So, the expected is happening in the Ranji final thus far. Saurashtra have been bowled out for mere 148 runs after being invited to bat first by firm favorites Mumbai.

Saurashtra: 148 allout

Virender Sehwag scored 46 off 22 balls in a T20 match today.

cool story bro :p

Really sad to see how Saurashra collapsed. Looks like another title for Mumbai. I read somewhere that they have swept every single domestic comp this year - U25, U-16, womens, etc... They continue to dominate even though they aren't churning as many test players anymore.

Why is bowl swinging so much?I thought Mumbai was a spinners' paradise.Saurashtra are just crumbling.39-7 in 2nd innings. As one sided as it gets.

@Cricketman: And BTW Sehwag's last four knocks have been:

104 (76) - One Day
82 (don't know number of balls) - One Day
7 (don't know number of balls) - T20
42 (26) - T20.

Hearing good things about Ishwar Pandey, a fast bowler from Madhya Pradesh. People like McGrath are speaking good things about him. Also he has been in excellent form in the recent Ranji form (saw his bowling spells). And it seems he has been bowling this well on mostly batsmen friendly wickets. Also heard that his action makes him far less injury prone.

Any other news on him? Would be a boon to get a good fast bowler who doesn't get injured often.

You are very correct in saying the pitches are batsmen friendly. After all both the Odi 200 were scored in MP.
Also,his batting is entertaining.:)

Just when I was turning positive about Dhoni has his things, he does it again.

He refused to play (and lead) ROI in the Irani Trophy match against Mumbai and for rest. Everything was absolutely fine till now but his next step calls trouble for himself. He is now ready to play (and lead) India Cements, a club level side in Corporate Trophy. Guess what? India Cements in the company of N.Srinivasan and if I am not wrong, Srinivasan has made Dhoni, the Vice President of his company! So, its friendship for Dhoni ahead of national team. Great going Mahendra!

India Cricket News: Dhoni, Ashwin and Pujara in Corporate Trophy squads | ESPN Cricinfo

On a leaflet circulated by the BCCI to all the four staging associations, Pujara's name appears in the Indian Oil squad, and those of Dhoni and Ashwin in India Cements'. Their names' appearing on the leaflet is no guarantee they will play the Corporate Trophy, but apart from Dhoni's case, who hinted at wanting rest, no explanation has been given for not picking Pujara and Ashwin for the marquee Irani Cup first-class match.

When asked about Dhoni's move from Air India to India Cements last week, his manager Arun Pandey had denied that he would be playing in the Corporate Trophy. "How can he play Corporate Trophy? He has been playing non-stop cricket for so long," Pandey had said. Dhoni also said, after the final ODI against England, he wanted to make the most of the break he is getting before the Australia series.

I hope the quoted statement is truth all 3 players let themselves be fresh enough to pin the Kangaroos down.

pujara was d key player for saurashtra...BCCI should have thinked about dat...

What is the relevance/significance of the Irani Trophy ? I know it is supposed to be a match between the Ranji Champions and ROI. However, it needs a few tweaks. IMO, it should be a quadrangular tournament:

1. Ranji Champions
2. Ranji runner-ups
3. ROI [This can essentially be the Indian XI minus the players turning out for the other teams]
4. A Ranji XI [its not often that these guys get the credit they deserve.

Else, the Irani Cup seems just like any other boring game in which the side who gains the first-innings lead wins hands-down. If the BCCI wants to continue with the same, the same should be played over six days to eliminate the possibility of a drawn game /win on the basis of the first innings.
