Indian Premier League - General Discussion

There is no choice for management in selecting the captain. ABD might retire from all forms of cricket next year and I don't see any other player taking up the role of captain.

Kohli being the captain of India is automatically considered keeping in mind the long term association with him. I don't know how he would manage after Dhoni's retirement. India has options like Rohit, Rahane but not RCB.

I don't see Kohli continuing with the franchise if at all he is sacked from Captaincy. Vettori was sacked by management after taking word from Kohli. At present, he is very powerful personality in Indian Cricket.

Only thing that would make Kohli leave the Captaincy is Kohli himself. His reply to GG comments on his Captaincy made me realise that we aren't getting rid of his Captaincy anytime soon.
When did this happen ? Or to be more precise what exactly was said by both of them?

But you have to agree that the pitch in the last match was poor for batting. Even Dhoni himself said it that he wanted the surface to be a bit better

That pitch was made to look poor by RCB's shite batting. And we're seeing example of that today when RCB catapulted for 113 in chase of 231. Use of sense could've taken a team to 120'ish on that first match and that's not a bad thing in T20. You do not want 180's and 190's all the time. Some games are very interesting on such smaller totals.

Probably that will happen next year if India loose the WC since I am sure there will be uproar and Kohli will loose his captaincy.

I doubt it. India has Dhoni for the WC, and I am sure Kohli will use all the inputs and with our bowling, I think we'll make the semis and maybe even a final (like in CT2017). And that'll keep Kohli's captaincy saved.

Imran Tahir bought at his base price, bowling with a soap in perhaps the most difficult conditions for bowling, specially for a wrist spinner. Somehow, you never associate this with RCB.

While I do agree that RCB batted horribly and did not even try to build partnership, the pitch was a 5th day wicket of a test match, even the 120 run matches have better pitches.

This is what I am worried about. Tendulkar in his days realized that no matter how good a batsman he was, he was shit as captain, Kohli needs to realize this. NO ONE IN THEIR SANE MIND doubt Kohli's batting prowess, its his captaincy that is questioned. I am atleast happy there will be a selection for India's new coach. Hope Shastri is not renewed.

RCB are a renowned moron team. But, that pitch was absolutely pathetic. Kohli said it, AB said it and even Dhoni said it. CSK took 17 overs to make 70 ffs.

Shastri will be re elected coach. And judging by the smile on Kohli's face after today, I doubt he will go anywhere. RCB can't sack him. Kohli even holds merchandising space on the RCB jerseys now. That's how much power he has. Bet you it's free too.

Absolutely FUMING. No way they should have been let back into this game. And Mitchell WHO? Harbie must be fuming too.

But wait.... Sure she takes his third catch and STOKES is done. :clap

The experience showed in that last over.... It is almost like..... ROBOTIC for MSD! And to hear from Bravo that these guys dont plan and just go with the flow on the moment? WOW!

I did expect the game to be this tight, because of the dew. But CSK and Dhoni just tore up RR too much in the first innings, that the total went way too far.

Santner's selection was logical because RR had very little of left handers and so a left arm spinner was useful. But the dew cannot be taken into account. And also, Chennai as a city does not get this much of dew that we saw today. If you watched it live, L Balaji spoke about it in a dug out interview today and he said that this was probably closer to an anomaly for Chepauk to be getting this much dew.

Santner will come back from this. He is a very good allrounder and can be useful for CSK as the IPL goes. I thought Tahir was brilliant today. I was expecting him to be the "leaker" of runs in these dew conditions, but man, he was precise. He got Tripathi and Smith, both who threatened to run away with this game.

Rajasthan really needs to think about getting some good bowling in their ranks. Dhawal Kulkarni and Jaydev Unadkat are serious offenders of leaking runs. I mentioned it before that 99.9% of times they both combined will give opposition close to 90 runs and that to consistently in every match. They need better Indian fast bowling talent. Also poor captaincy from Rahane today.

I have watched every game live and all the way through. I have hardly missed a ball. I understand Santner's selection but disagree that the dew cannot be taken into account or as an excuse for poor control; it was difficult to grip for all of the bowlers.

Yes, Imran was a rock today. And Billings (who I am a fan of) was seen as a sub fielder, I hope he gets a gig soon. Overall I am frustrated my team continually get themselves into dangerous situations like in the opening game, the opposition are dismissed for peanuts yet there we are in the 20th over, crawling over the finish line.

We won again today but there is much room for improvement!

Gambhir was the part of 'Game Plan' that was telecasted day before first match of RCB against CSK. He said this -

Kohli replied to him in a pre-match press conference on the eve of 22. -

It amazes me how Kohli acknowledges his failures as captain in IPL was due to bad decision making but yet he doesn't feel like fixing that issue within him.

It amazes me how CSK fans feel and how people like Zee and I do.

I do agree with you Oliver but it feels like you’re complaining about your Mercedes not being very comfortable. I’m a de Villiers fan because of which I’m a RCB supporter and I could do just fine to hitch a ride, let alone one in a Mercedes.

I think you have hit very close to home here. When we are so passionate about our chosen team we can be blinkered on other peripheral but important matters.

If CSK are a Mercedes then I think quite often they drive like a Mazda.

I also admire AbD but feel that while there is still fire there, he should not be coming in at number four - how do you feel about that?

From the article:

Pant said from behind the stumps, "Yeh toh waise bhi chauka hai". He meant to say that the next ball will anyway be a four. As it turned out, the fifth ball of the fourth over went to the boundary through cover.

I don't think anything can be conclusively drawn from that. While I am suspicious like most of corruption in sport and we know that it does exist, you would probably need a little more evidence than a verbal prophecy such as that from Pant.
