Indian Premier League - General Discussion

This has been a brutal slaughter in every aspect. Mumbai look so much better that it is not even funny.

One comforting thing (not 100% confirmed yet) that could come out of this season's woes for CSK is that the franchise and the team management understanding how bad their auction strategy has been and how picking a team "for one single ground" is fraught with so much danger. And how their strategy of only looking for experience and disregarding age. Already reports are flowing out that the management is looking for a serious reshuffle for IPL 2021 itself depending on what auction they get.

P.s: Sunil Gavaskar is questioning the choice of CSK to play Ruturaj and says why didn't they play Murali Vijay who is a regular opener. OMFG!! :facepalm:mad:rolleyes

I hope Dhoni's words of playing a XI that shall help them next season stays true and they continue with the same XI. Today was an abject display but it is unlikely that the team will be this bad again if proper guidance and management is done. I made a bigger post in the CSK thread but I do think a few tweaks could help this side in going a long way. Wish we could trade and get a good domestic spinner (Thakur maybe?), it truly is hurting this side![DOUBLEPOST=1603485402][/DOUBLEPOST]

Sunny G is a desi Shane Warne in my eyes. Offers real insight when surrounded by good commentators sometimes and can also come up with hot takes that make no sense at other times.

When the XI was picked today, I told my dad (we both are big Dhoni fans) that we have finally chosen a perfect XI, both from the perspective of the ground conditions and for us to take this side forward. Obviously it did not turn out well at all in the end, but this XI needs persistence if it has to reap the right results for next season. More so if no auction (in any form) happens for the 2021 season.

This is something I have kept in my heart
Definitely a censored word Dhoni
The same censored word CSK

Atrocious stuff from Kolkata yet again, hope they use Lockie earlier in this game given how the pitch seems to aid seamers.

Rana does seem like a player who can keep the runs flowing in the middle overs, curious as to why they have him in at three and even opening today.

This is an excellent counter-attack. Delhi have completely lost control of the game that they had in their bag.

I don't get why Iyer stuck with Ashwin when he was going for the cleaners. Axar should've bowled couple of more overs.

I can only feel for Rahane. Didn't get matches in the first half and have struggled to score in the second half.

Rahane's time as a good T20 player seems to be long over. I wish he opts to take a year out of the IPL and plays county cricket getting his longer format game in order, India desperately need the old Rahane back.

As for Axar not bowling, I guess they did not want a left arm spinner bowling to two left-handed batsmen on fire who were already tonking an off-spinner.

why was he taken away from no.4 slot in ODI is a big question mark for me,

2015 WC he did exceptional at number 4

then suddenly he was taken away from ODI squad and he never saw the indian blues again

My memory might deceive me, but the only lingering memory I have of Rahane in the previous World Cup was him trying his damnedest best to hit the ball for boundaries and the ball barely clearing the infield.

As for him not being favoured, it is pretty clear why. His strike-rate in the high 70s are a huge detriment in the ODI cycle over the last four years. Does not score boundaries as much to compensate for his inability to rotate strike consistently. The number four India needed to play was Shreyas or at worst Pandey who were mysteriously never given the sort of backing that certain others seemed to get.

EDIT: So I went back and looked and it confirmed what I knew. Rahane was the lowest run scorer in that Indian top six and had the second worst strike-rate behind only Kohli in the 2015 World Cup. Not sure why you would say he did an 'exceptional' job when it was clearly abysmal.

The bowling action of Sunil Narine is funny. 6.00 am start (US time) is not my forte. Missed the KKR batting.

i am not sure what is wrong with Rishab Pant! He has lost his big hitting power. Has someone told him to bat like that?

I mean this Rishabh will be perfect for ODI’s and Test, but not T20

he hit 3 sixes in MCG vs the South African attack with the likes of Steyn Morkel and Co. and made some 79 runs with str of 100+

3 sixes in the G!

AM Rahane in WC 2015
Match 8
Innings 7
NO 1
Runs 208
HS 79
Avg 34.66
Str 82.53

In seven innings that was the only noteworthy performance. Still not sure how one good performance excuses all the others where he was terrible.

I noticed a flick that he hit for six early in his innings effortlessly and believed this would finally be his day. His keeping today was pretty poor too, wonder what is going on with him.

I feel Pant came in too early, Stoinis would have been a much better option if you wanted a player to come in during the powerplay. Make no mistake though, Chakravarthy being held back until the asking rate was high enough that batsmen would take risks against him is a genius move and the he has bowled excellently too. Should be a deserved starter ahead of Kuldeep from here on.
