Indian Premier League - General Discussion

Need to get Tewatia soon before he does Tewatia!

I actually don't mind it. It's their last match. There's nothing to lose and everything to gain. Worst case scenario: They end up at #8. Best case: They make the playoffs and even win the tournament. I would like to see players give it all in such a case.

I don't disagree with going out all guns blazing. My problem is that when you do so it is a game of percentages and you need to have the pressure applied consistently.

  • If you wanted a big margin of defeat, why not give another over to Archer up front to make sure that Kolkata's use of the powerplay is further affected? Why bowl him only after Gopal goes for a big over defensively? I've not watched the game completely but I don't think Rajasthan were particularly aggressive with their fields or bowling. Why was Tyagi, their best Indian seamer bowling after the powerplay? Bowling Gopal in the powerplay was a risky call that didn't pay off but more ones like that could have actually helped them to put Kolkata under even more pressure considering how lackluster their batting has been this season. Why was Aaron selected in any case, Rajpoot was unfortunate to have come up against a Hardik Pandya at his typical marauding best and barring that he had bowled just two overs in two games despite being excellent at the death in that 'Tewatia' game. Playing him today and asking him to bowl two at the death with one in the middle could have allowed for Archer to bowl three up front and even a fourth in the middle if you sensed blood.
  • If you wanted to score 15 runs per over, who would you choose? One of the best T20 batsmen in the world who also happens to be the most destructive player in the side? How about promoting the guy who struck five sixes in an over to mess with the bowling team as a pinch hitter? At worst, why not have your premium Indian hitter up there or at least why not mess with his perfectly normally functioning position over the last two games?
  • I don't think you need to take unnecessary risks in any case too. Kolkata scored only three runs off Archer's two overs and yet had nine runs per over at the end of the powerplay. Why gift Cummins wickets when you've already scored a lot of runs off him? I also don't think you could have chased that target down in thirteen overs in this stadium with Narine (who has a very good record against all RR batsmen) and Chakravarthy bowling eight overs.
  • Finally, there still wasn't any need to take any humongous risks to this extent. Rajasthan batted well in the last two games with positive intent. Delhi have suffered two humiliating defeats in the last two games while RCB have been poor too. Any one of those sides are prone to another collapse and embarrassing loss again that could have hit their NRR severely. Hyderabad may also lose versus Mumbai (even with the threat of rotation looming, they will still play some first teamers who would be stars in all other sides). You seek to score 60-75 runs in the powerplay, force Kolkata to make risky bowling changes (which will be inevitable given that Morgan and Baz have already made gutsy calls throughout the tournament) and then capitalize on their mistakes. Instead, all that Rajasthan have done is give Kolkata a very realistic chance of securing a top four spot based on tomorrow's result.

Looks like KKR is just hoping for SRH to lose so that they can sneak into the playoffs. They should have bowled Cummins out when he was in that red hot form. If Cummins had got a wicket more then, KKR could've bowled RR out for less than 111 and put themselves in a better position than where they are right now.

I dont see RCB or DC missing the train from here. It is going to be a fight for the fourth spot and SRH-MI game will decide who will be No. 4! I hope KKR can atleast finish RR before 162 so that CSK can end up 7th (fingers crossed). Small consolation! Its amazing advertisement for this league that the bottom four teams are all going to end up on a minimum of 12 pts.

Ruthuraj scored hattrik fifties... CSK should have given him his natural position when he played first game for them... Hope he will continue opening for CSK in coming seasons...[DOUBLEPOST=1604237088][/DOUBLEPOST]CSK definitely not ends this season with wooden spoon... KXIP or KKR will take 8th position...

What a player is Ruturaj Gaikwad turning out to be! Highly unfortunate for CSK that COVID took Ruturaj out for a few weeks and crippled CSK badly. If you go back to the start of this season, the owner of CSK (N Srinivasan) said that in the absence of Raina, this will be a golden opportunity for Ruturaj Gaikwad. If only COVID had not touched him.... Anyways, it looks like his inclusion and the likes of Curran/Ngidi/Chahar/Shardul does not make CSK look that old. And as MS Dhoni said today, it all depends on what BCCI decides as far as auction is concerned. A few weak links being let go and getting apt/younger replacements can bolster CSK significantly.

@SaiSrini I don't think tomorrow's sides are out of the woods yet, a slightly bad loss could easily make them go home too.

Yeah, but I feel it is pretty unlikely. I am sure that both teams will play with the knowledge of knowing what they need to do to retain their Top 4 spots and considering their form in this season so far, I dont see a big loss happening. But yeah, this is T20 and I can be wrong.

I will be rooting hard for Delhi tomorrow to win and finish in the Top 2. Gives them two bites at the final and despite their meltdown in the last 4 games, they deserve it. I feel SRH and KKR have looked almost equally mediocre, and I dont mind either one of them going to the playoffs. If both can sneak in at the expense of RCB, I would be delighted (sorry RCB fans but you'll know my dislike for your captain)!

This is exactly what I am rooting for! Delhi scoring 180 ish and RCB getting bowled out cheaply making them lose out on NRR. I do not want Kohli the captain to have even one trophy.[DOUBLEPOST=1604254068][/DOUBLEPOST]From cricinfo

Fresh calculations coming in. If you are DC or RCB, you want to be winning the toss and chasing. And if you are chasing 161, you can afford to lose by 21 if you are RCB. If you are DC, you can afford to lose by 18.

I have a great deal of affection for the people of Bangalore after my pleasant experience in the city but they truly deserve a better champion and team than this IPL one. Their state team for one and Bengaluru FC are much more closer in terms of being properly run by passionate people who care for the side and have competency to match that. Kohli winning would just make his fanbase think that he can do no wrong and back him to the dying end with the national team even if RCB's victory would be inspite of his captaincy and not due to it (would love to be proven wrong!).[DOUBLEPOST=1604255508][/DOUBLEPOST]
Kohli has a good chunk of haters for his captaincy

If RCB change their captain going forward, they would have a significant influx of supporters/sympathizers :lol:yes

Heck, they could make Finchy their captain and I will root for them over Delhi instantly. :D

Oh yeah... Kohli's RCB winning can have repercussions on the Indian national team as well, where Kohli is already 'almost immovable' from captaincy, and an IPL final entry just widens the halo that the top brasses in the BCCI place over his head.
