Indian Tour of Sri Lanka & Triangular Series, July-August 2010

You cannot blame pitch when last match was finished with enough time even after 1 whole day was washed out.

Its bowlers that suck. End.

Indian bowlers have bowled when bowling conditions were at their worst (on the first day of both tests). As the game progresses, it becomes harder to bat though it doesnt start acting up strange. Also Sri Lanka had a mountain of runs behind their backs and so when their bowlers came on, they had that advantage. Our bowling is not good enough for us to be No.1, but we are not the worst. We are being made to look the worst.

Probably after this tour, the BCCI will think "why did we even arrange this tour? We arranged it to help India protect the No.1 ranking, but probably we will give up that ranking by arranging this series".

There was nothing wrong with pitch even on last day. It was flat.

Bowlers bowled badly and batsman batted even worse.

I agree to Sai's point

I think the players are sick of playing Sri Lanka and they just can't be bothered. But yea they are playing quite rubbish cricket. Seems as though they don't really want the number 1 ranking.

Thats a wild guess. Maybe they are trying as hard as they can, but they are not able to do anything on such lifeless wickets (it would spring to life once we start batting). I would blame our selectors who have been horrible in building our bowling stocks. And the board for picking the wrong bowling coach (what is Eric Simmons doing there?).

I guess thats the strength of the great Wi and Aus teams- excellent depth in bowling and batting. Most of you guys werent around when Border and Boon retired, but much of the same comments were being thrown around then- the end of our short dominance etc, then we had Taylor retiring and people were saying this is the end, then the Waugh's retired etc, we have lost so many great players and managed to not only replace them but do even better in that period 95 to 2007. Gillespie, Hayden, langer, Gilly etc, all were magnificent in our dominance but were largely overshadowed by McWarne.

India just has no depth in bowling or batting, or not enough to sustain a number one ranking.

What happened to Sri Lankan pitches all of sudden? I remember last 2 tours Pakistan had there, we had sporting wickets. Even last year there pitches weren't as flat as this.

The pitches are indeed flat. But at the same time the Indian bowling does lack penetration. After all SRI did manage to take 20 wickets in the 1st test.

NZ played Maharashtra in a warmup match and we only won by 9 runs >< We are missing key players but still, they have no one of note at all and should have won by much more.

New Zealand Cricket - BLACKCAPS win warm up match by nine runs

Bowled out for only 173. Interesting lineup, Guptill opening, Taylor at 3 and Ingram at 6. I'm guessing this was a 13-a-side match though. Dunno why Patel is valued as a batsman over Southee though. Hopefully Watling gets a shot in the real matches, he's looking good. Also Tuffey should play above Oram with the way he's been batting recently lol

Good bowling from Mills and Oram, very tight and took wickets too. Good to see Williamson getting a bowl, he seems to have done better than Patel :p

There are supposed to be scattered thunderstorms in Colombo for the last four days of the Test match.

Had no idea they were even in Australia playing against Maharashtra. Bit of a close call but NZ haven't played cricket since that T20 series over in the US IIRC. Hopefully NZ put in a more dominant performance in the upcoming games or else it ain't boding well for the tri-series.

Uhh, no he didn't. He was commenting on India's #1 ranking using WI and AUS as examples to strengthen his argument. I guess BBC didn't tell you that.

Excuse me?

If India want to stay number one for any sustained length of time they need depth, WI had great depth for many years, India have shown that one or two players out completely disrupts their team. Aus had many series without Warne and did very well in many of them, of course MacGill was no slouch. Getting to number one is no big deal, staying there is. South africa got to number one in 2001, for about 2 weeks, then fell way back. Why? Donald and Pollock got injured and their depth in pace was bare.

I saw no reference in your post to the teams that are participating in this series, so I thought you wrongly replied and that your post belonged to one of the threads where Australia is discussed.

But based on your reaction it was your intention to post it in this thread.
