Or maybe because the period you mentioned was the peak of his career and he has since diminished. He failed in the CB Series, the IPL, and now in Sri Lanka. The only good tournament he has had was the Asia Cup where the pitches were batting paradises. His fielding is bogus. At this moment in time, he doesn't warrant a spot in the ODI team.

So he's in his peak in 2007 and some bad form (not even that bad) means he should be dropped?!

If he plays like this in test he will be successful. There he bats in his usual carefree style.

Nah, he has pretty big flaws in his batting, flaws that can be better exploited in the Test format. He's not a natural puller or cutter of the ball, hence is susceptible to the shorter delivery, especially the one that comes in and cramps him for room. In ODI's, where there are more defensive fields, he can get away with this. In tests where the slips are packed and catchers are everywhere, the ball is more likely to go to hand.

I'm not taking anything away from Dhoni's ODI batting ability's, he's our best right now. But he's just not as good in the Test format.

In the only tournaments that had anything at all for the bowlers this year (CB Series and Sri Lanka) he has been floored.

Averaged 22 in Australia, and 13 in Sri Lanka.

I like KKD but he needs some time in the domestic circuit to find his form again. He has all the talent and all the time in the world, he just needs to dip into his resources a bit.

Dhoni is a fine option as a test match wicket keeper, but if we get an early collapse chasing a big score, I wouldn't depend on him to make a big contribution.

Two series?! You want to drop Yuvraj Singh on two poor series?!

13 matches is alot, Manee.

And no one complained when Jaffer and Karthik (sorry to bring his name up again) were dropped after failing for "only" two series.

Man has a point. 15 matches of failures is usually how long it takes BCCI to drop players. But Yuvraj can apparently get away with this.

Tharanga scoring 50 tells how good bowling has been.

scion_sid added 19 Minutes and 59 Seconds later...

Match resumes. Revised target looks like Everest with only Mahi left.
