Dhoni backs Jadeja and Rohit yet again: Dhoni backing for Jadeja, Rohit

"[...] I don’t think two innings is good enough to decide whether a player is good or not..."

Perhaps someone should tell him that he's failed in most of his 50 innings, or he wouldn't average 29 :laugh

Its not a guess anymore that Dhoni loves certain players and backs them despite them not being good enough. He is trying to do a Ganguly where he backs certain players on the hope that they will come good.

Oram's injured, and Williamson might be :( Guptill's fit again though

If he's trying to do a ganguly then he is no good at that. Ganguly's instincts were spot on. Sheer amount of youngsters he supported and those who performed is unbelievable.
Zaheer Khan,Yuvraj Singh,Virender Sehwag,Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni..... Salute you DADA :hpraise:hpraise

Damn,... I wished he'd play... That would have balanced both sides, now who would compensate for Nohit Sharma:p

I hope they don't resort to pushing Hopkins up to six, and McCullum up to seven, because that would mean over half our line-up are pretty weak batsmen at the INT level.

Losing both Oram (and maybe Williamson) would be a huge blow to the balence of our XI, as besides Styris they would be our next two best genuine AR's, as ATM Elliot hasn't been bowling.

Hopefully Williamson does play. I want to see him score his first run.

If they do that, and NZ are going to struggle if they lose Taylor or Styris early or is they get out cheaply.

I agree with you, it's such a stupid move, but they done it in the 2nd match when Oram was injured.
It's so funny now that Styris is all of a sudden our 2nd best batsman on this tour, when only a year ago he had been dropped.

What if Williamson plays and gets out for a duck again? :laugh

What's the record for the most consecutive ducks starting from the debut match?

Didn't Sachin get two to start his ODI career?
It obviously shows very little about the player, so even if he gets three he could still go on to be a great.
I hope he does get some runs though.

Yep Sachin took sometime to get his first ODI hundered I believe. I am not sure but the I think it took him 73 matches.
Could be wrong about the exact number though, read this fact about him ages ago :p

Yep, Sachin made 2 ducks to start his ODI career. I can't find any ODI player with 3 or more consecutive ducks from debut. Atapattu got 3 (5 ducks total in his first 6 innings :hpraise) but that was in Tests.

Finally Nohit gets dropped :banana2. Don't think Dhoni's First Love (Jadeja) is ever going to get dropped...

1 Martin Guptill, 2 BJ Watling, 3 Ross Taylor (capt), 4 Kane Williamson, 5 Scott Styris, 6 Grant Elliott, 7 Gareth Hopkins (wk), 8 Nathan McCullum, 9 Tim Southee, 10 Kyle Mills, 11 Andy McKay

I don't know why, but I just don't like the order.
I keep on thinking why, but I can't really think of any proper solutions.
I'd like to see Elliot at either 4 or 5, also Taylor I'd prefer to have Taylor at 4 compared with 3, which means Elliot would have to bat 5, pushing Styris down to six, and Williamson up to three.

I'd almost be tempted to put Southee up at three as a pinch hitter, that will just add some more substance/strength to our middle order, as ATM Elliot and 6 and Hopkins at 7 which are meant to be two big hitting positions, both just don't really suit where they're batting.

Even maybe suprise everyone, by sticking Hopkins in at 4 or something, I know we're missing four of our main players (Ryder, McCullum, Vettori and Oram), but I just don't see any power down the order there except when Oram comes back, and Southee/Mills on a good day.

Oh wow I forgot this match was on now :facepalm

Where's Tuffey?

You could put Elliott at 3, Williamson at 5, and Styris at 6. Would probably make the most sense
