Indian Tour of Sri Lanka & Triangular Series, July-August 2010

Malinga won't play in the 2nd Test, because of an injury.
are you sure..how do you know that?

Hypocrite! Sri Lanka were No.2 in the ICC rankings sometime back inspite of not having won a single test in India, and having performed badly in South Africa, Australia, etc. And now that India have become No.1 and have lost a test to them in Sri Lanka, this guy questions the same ICC rankings which had been benovelent to his own team before (and he didnt question it then). Ask Sri Lanka to come out of their den and play test matches. With India, there is a strong chance that they will perform decently or even well if they tour abroad now (our bowlers now have learnt to exploit the livelier wickets overseas). Thats not the case with Sri Lanka, who are still home tigers and pussies abroad.

what are you talking about. his point is totally acceptable. Teams must play same amount of matches home and away. and he never questions anyones ranking. post after when you read full article :facepalm

In that article, check out these lines

"You should have asked that question of Haroon [Lorgat, ICC's CEO], who was here a while ago…" Sangakkara said. "If rankings can't be understood by the public, the players, or the administrators, what's the use of having rankings? If you want rankings, they should count towards playing a Test championship.

Rankings need to be fairly done"

Source: Cricinfo

He clearly questions the fairness of the ranking in which his own team were No.2 not too long ago without having won in South Africa, India, Australia, etc. I have read the full article and only then did I post. Lets have this discussion here itself, no need for seperate thread since this interview is happening now.

Didnt he feel the unfairness of the ranking sometime back when SL were at No.2? Why does he feel it only now?

so whats wrong with that statements. if public and administration cant understand the ranking systems. whats the point of having it????????????

Be interesting to see how many of India's say last 10 wins were batting 1st :

Batted 2nd vs South Africa - won by an innings
Batted 2nd vs Bangladesh - won by 10 wickets
Batted 1st vs Bangladesh - won by 113 runs
Batted 2nd vs Sri Lanka - won by an innings
Batted 1st vs Sri Lanka - won by an innings
Batted 2nd vs New Zealand - won by 10 wickets
Batted 2nd vs England - won by six wickets
Batted 1st vs Australia - won by 172 runs
Batted 1st vs Australia - won by 320 runs
Batted 1st vs Sri Lanka - won by 170 runs

Five wins apiece batting 1st and 2nd, crushes Manjrekar's little theory and shows people should check things out before making bold claims. Batting 1st is generally accepted as an advantage anyway so I'm not sure that was the best way to make his point. I think he'd have been better off looking at average 1st innings totals conceded or something

Malinga and Murali are gone now. India will win the second test. :)

They can't because IND cant take 20 SL wickets. and Mendis is back. SL batsman's are quite comfortable at SCC ground. it will be a draw or win for SL

We will see. ;)

It depends. We saw how dangerous Ishant and Mithun were when they received some help from the pitch after the rain created dampness and moisture on the pitch. Bhajji also wasnt as fit as he ought to be in the first test. Also our batters are now back in their flow (Dravid got 44, Sachin 84 and Laxman 50+; all in 2nd innings). So SL should worry. Now they dont have Malinga also (Murali is replaced by Mendis). A good chance for them would be to have a batting beauty and hope they bat first (in SL, batting first on such wickets is a big advantage).

in your dreams :D

Just as Sri Lanka winning is in yours. Ok now, lets not hit back at each statement.:D

Next match is going to be draw

hah, don't tell me Indians can win it, and surely don't tell me that Ishant and Mithun would rip apart the SL batting.

No chance for India winning the next match.

That'll be a complete surprise to me if India wins it.

India have a habit of winning the second Test in a series in Sri Lanka. But with the attack they have right now, it's not looking promising. Ishant bowled well in patches but was overall expensive. Mithun did relatively well. Harbhajan and Ojha didn't pick up any wickets. But then again the batsmen might have an easier time with Malinga out of the second Test. Might be able to score a few more runs and give the bowlers some breathing space.

I agree. We come back well after a big defeat.

P.s: Where do you guys get those "back-shirt" avatars? Looks cool. Would like one for myself.
