Story India's International Season [C2005]

good luck ..nice fixtures

which patch u ll use for bowling?

So far, for batting and bowling, its Tutsi's patch. I havent tested batting and bowling yet with it as I autoplayed the first match between NZ and Zim. Will test is next match and see how it works for me!

Easy win for NZ there. Next match will be very exciting now between India and NZ. Good Luck to India from all Indian Cricket fans. Go India Go.

Indian captain at the pre-match press meet

Saurav Ganguly addresses media persons before first game!

sp1.jpg

Ganguly defended questions on the team's down spiralling fortunes coupled with the captaincy debate and questions on tomorrow's match. Here is the excerpts of the questions thrown at him?

*What is the reason for the team's poor form? It has now been carried on into the new season too?

Its a case of not doing the right things at the right time. We have had brilliant individual performances. The time must come when it all comes together! We hope to turn around the corner

* A new coach, but still things havent seem to change much?

A coach cant work miracles. The changing process wont happen overnight. A coach brings in fresh ideas but its upto the players to successfully implement them! Everything will fall in place accordingly and at the right time.

* How does it feel to get back the captaincy

Its always a honour to captain India. Its as much pride for me as it is playing for India. I have had success at this job before and I wish I regain back those glorious days of the team's resounding successes!

* There has been a lot of debate on the captaincy and the selectors are stuck between you and Dravid. Have you spoken to Dravid about this? How do you guys get along?

At the end of the day, it is the performance of the whole team that wins you the match. The captain marshalles his resources on the field and makes some decisions but success depends on the team. And myself and Dravid know this very well. No need to talk to him about all this. We have been the greatest of pals always. He admires me and I admire him. Its the media that is so desperately trying to project a friction between both of us. We're so close right from our U-15 days. I am always proud of his achievements and I am sure he will work along with me in taking this team forward!

* So what have you decided for tomorrow's line up? Any changes from the final against Sri Lanka?

We really have not made up our mind about the conditions and the pitch. From New Zealand's score in the first ODI, it seems to be a great batting wicket. But we have had this fifth bowler which has always tormented us. So we need to find the right combination which we hope we can! May be JP Yadav might get a game tomorrow to help us get rid of the fifth bowler problem. He is a very good bat and a useful medium pacer!

* You've had mixed success against New Zealand? What do you think of tomorrow's encounter against the Kiwis?

They're certainly a world class team. Its going to be a very exciting and a tough fight between us. But we are determined to put the sore past behind us and work positively and see how it goes forward!

Great interview. It certainly has aroused more interest in the match against NZ. I just want to know that do you have Sachin in the team?

No! Sachin is now practising in Mumbai and will leave for Zimbabwe on September 3rd to join the team for the test leg of the tour. Of course, his availability would depend on how he has recuperated from the surgery! Kaif would be retained in any case Sachin is not fit to play!

Hope we all see sachin back as early as possible because he has still to play some more memorable innings before declaring an end to his legendary carear. I hope sehwag dont let India feel shortage of Sachin.

Thanks for all the support guys! Match to start soon in a few hours!

India vs New Zealand - Second ODI at Bulawayo

2ndmatchintro4ke.jpg

India and New Zealand line up to clash against each other for the first time in this tri series at Bulawayo. New Zealand, fresh from a thumping win against Zimbabwe in the first match of the tri series must be looking to be the most confident of the two teams! India have been grappled by batting woes and low confidence right through the start of their new season. They lost the IndianOil Cup in Sri Lanka and won only two matches and that too against a weak West Indies. The captaincy has been taken back by Saurav Ganguly from Rahul Dravid who captained the side in Sri Lanka.

Sanjay Manjrekar: Welcome to straight drive with me, Srinath and Richard Hadlee. What do you think India should do to arrest this slide Sri?

Srinath: India should first back themselves up. Ganguly right now is out of form and since he opens the batting, he scores slowly and also it spreads to the rest of the line up to score slowly. Ganguly can do himself a favor by dropping down the order and make either Sehwag or Dhoni to open the innings. Dravid as usual needs to take up the gauntlet and led the Indian batting brigade which is woefully out of confidence!

Manjrekar: Your thoughts Hadlee?
Hadlee: I sorta agree with Srinath on this! India needs to seriously address their batting issues. Their captain needs to address his very very soon. You cant have some one at the top like that who cant buy a run for his team! The bowling is well settled and Nehra and Pathan in the absence of Zaheer Khan can form a good combination to unsettle the Kiwis

Manjrekar: The Kiwis have had a good batting performance in their first match? Would it place them in good stead against India?

Hadlee: Yes of course. Getting good runs under your belt definitely helps! And New Zealand got good runs in the first game against Zimbabwe

Manjrekar: Lets now move to the toss for which Ian Chappell is out there with the two captains - Ganguly and Fleming!

Ganguly calls Tails and Tails it is! Ganguly wins the toss

2ndmatchtoss4xv.jpg

Chappell: Your call Saurav?
Ganguly: We'll have a bat first. The wicket looks good for batting and hopefully we can put the runs on the board and put the pressure on the Kiwis

Chappell: Your squad?
Ganguly: JP Yadav gets a game here and replaces Laxman from the final of the IndianOil Cup. Agarkar replaces Zaheer Khan and Harbhajan is the lone spinner.

Chappell: Bad luck with the toss Fleming?
Fleming: Tosses are meant to be that way - about luck. We have the bowlers who can restrict India to an average total and we have the batters to overhaul the target. We're confident of winning this game!

Chappell: Your team?
Fleming: No changes at all!

Chappell: So the news from the middle is that India will bat first. Over to you Sanjay!

India lose Ganguly for 14; 22/1

India 22/1 after the loss of Ganguly

India have lost Ganguly's wicket and now are 22/1 after 6 overs. After a very scratchy start by the Indian batsmen, Ganguly and Sehwag tried to break the shackles and Ganguly lost his wicket in that process. Tuffey and Bond exerted great pressure on both Sehwag and Ganguly especially more on Ganguly and both failed to keep the scoreboard moving. A few delightful strokes by Ganguly improved the scoring rate which was at 1 run per over after 3 overs! But Ganguly fell trying to clear Tuffey and spooned a catch to mid on! He was out for 14 and India are 22/1 with Yadav joining Sehwag in the middle!

India in trouble - Yadav and Dravid depart

India are now in trouble losing three wickets for 53 runs. Dravid and Sehwag played well to take India to 5 runs per over on their current run rate before Dravid was out caught at covers. Dravid tried to cover drive a ball through the covers but the fielder brilliantly dived in front and plucked out a wonderful catch to end Dravid's innings

Sehwag at the other end is playing with good aggression. His shots are a delight to watch and one can feel that Sehwag is slowly returning to his full rhythm. The shot played by him off Bond to square leg spoke high volumes of his form today with the bat. When on full form, he is a danger to any bowling side in the world.

Yadav endured a scratchy time in the middle before he was out leg before wicket to Tuffey. It was an unplayable yorker from Tuffey whichi Yadav had no clue for and he was stuck on his pads and the umpire had no hesitation in giving Yadav out!

Not a good start for India with Ganguly gone early. Hope Sehwag plays a big inning. I think kaif should come up the order and yadav should come after yuvraj. Thats my thoughts but I hope your batting order works here to give a big total to NZ to chase.

India in deep trouble - 102/5 after 20 overs

Kaif & Dhoni in the middle - India 102/5

India continue their horrible run with the bat against New Zealand as 5 of their top order wickets have fallen within the first 20 overs and they are in a precarious position at 102/5 after 21 overs! Though they are scoring at nearly 5 runs per over, the alarming fall of wickets has not helped the Indians maintain a hold over the New Zealand bowlers. Yuvraj was the first to go, clean bowled by Daniel Vettori's left arm spin. The ball turned almost half a mile as Yuvraj missed the ball and it went through the gate to crash onto the stumps.

Virender Sehwag was moving along at a great pace before some bad umpiring did him in. Sehwag tried to flick a delivery down the leg side by Mc Millan but the ball hit him on his pads and New Zealand appealed for a leg before decision which the umpire shockingly gave in to them. Sehwag was hard done by as the replays clearly showed the ball missing the leg stump. Mc Millan and New Zealand got lucky and Sehwag was gone and India were in deep trouble with Dhoni coming in

kaiflbw6mb.jpg

Kaif now is not out on 11*. He and Dhoni are the batsmen who are well equipped to take India through to a competitive total which they can think of defending against this New Zealand batting line up which is nowhere above the Indian batting lineup!

India 102/5 | V.Sehwag 44 | M.Kaif 11*

not good batting by indian middle order. Its good that sehwag is still there. India cant afford to lose another wicket now for next atleast 15 overs.

aren't others interested in the story? i see the views for the story going up, but other than ashu2411 and 2 others, many dont seem interested in replying or keeping the story thread alive!!!

suggestions for improving are always appreciated.. if you guys have suggestions on improving the story thread, tell me.. i will certainly do it. i am not writing stories just for people to read. it should be an interactive story thread where readers also chip in with their replies on the ongoing game/series/tournament and also post their opinions!

You worry too much Saisrini. The views number to me is what counts most. Even after so many C2005 story threads popped up, couple of them about Pakistan, people asked me to revive my old crappy C2K4 Pakistan International Season thread. To me that means a lot more than people posting in my thread all the time. If a reader enjoyed my story, then thats all I care about. Feedback is a bonus.
