Natwest Triangular Series, 3rd ODI England v India LIVE from Cardiff Weather forecast, pitch report, toss and line ups
Well, we are at Cardiff cricket stadium for the 3rd natwest triangular series ODI. The home side England are taking on the mighty Indian side. England, won their first match vs Bangladesh by 14 runs but a win is a win in the end. Indian team on other hand, won their 1st match more convicingly, while chasing and chasing the target by Bangladesh team of (159) in the 31st over. Its time to catch the live action now from the centre. Lets have a look at the weather forecast for the match.
Well, the sky is clear and light wind is blowing in the stadium. There is no chance of any bad weather. So we should have a full 50 over per side match. The temperature is mild - 22. The players won't find it hard to play in the middle because the light cold breeze blowing in the ground will keep them cool.
All the tickets are sold for this game so we should expect the ground to build up as the match progresses. Now, it's time for the pitch report with Nasser Hussain and then the all important toss with Michael Atherton!
Pitch report with Nasser Hussain
This is a perfect cricket pitch! There is a bit of a grass on the pitch which should come handy for the bowlers. It's just the matter of the first 10-15 overs though because after that it's gonna be a batsmen day! We had the same scenario in the first natwest triangular series odi - it was just the matter of the first 10 overs but what we saw was a collapse from the England team after the first 10 overs. So, it's quiet important for the batsmen to get their eye settled in the middle and then go on and play their normal innings.
The outfield is quick, if the batsmen time the ball well the ball will race away to the fence. Overall, this is a good cricketing pitch. The bowlers can get some purchase from it - only if they bowl in the right areas. The batsmen will need to negotiate the first 10 - 15 overs safely. The pitch will remain good for the batting throughout the match and first 10-15 overs of the match will be handy for the bowlers so in my opinion whichever captain wins the toss should elect to bowl first because the team batting second will find it easier to bat. It's time for the toss now with Mike!
Toss with Michael Atherton
We are all set for the important toss. I have with me in the middle the England team captain, Andrew Strauss, the Indian team captain, MS Dhoni and the match referee, Jeff Crowe.
Strauss has the coin....Dhoni to call...Dhoni calls tails and it's heads.... Strauss has won the toss..
Strauss, what will England do first?
We will field first, Michael! The pitch will remain good for the batting throughout the match and there should be some purchase for the bowlers in the first 10 -15 overs. So, yes we will bowl first!
OK, Strauss! What is your team side for today's match?
We are going with an unchanged side!
Best of luck to your side for today's match, Strauss!
Cheers!
Dhoni, Indian team will bat first. Does that really make any difference?
I don't reckon it really makes any difference. Although the pitch will be better to bat on for the team which bats second but still if we bat well and put a good score on the board, anything around 280 - 300 we will have a good chance of winning the match.
There was news of Sehwag being injured before today's match is he playing?
No, Sehwag is not playing in today's match. He has recovered well but we still didn't wanted to take any chance and play him in today's match.
Who comes in at his place?
We decided to play Ishant Sharma in Virender Sehwag's place. So, we are going into this match with an extra bowler.
Well, Dhoni best of luck for today's match!
Thanks a lot!
So, the news from the center is that - England team has won the toss and they will field first.
Let's have a look at the team line ups now for today's match
England team is unchanged from their previous game. The opening slot is a bit of a concern for them. Strauss and Prior will be desperate to get their side off to a good start. England team was 50/4 in their last match but hopefully we will see a better batting performance from them in today's match. England team bowlers were good in their previous match. Ashraful was going all guns blazing but the English bowlers did well and won the match for their team.
Indian team is a strong unit but they have got a big setback as Sehwag is not playing in today's match. The quick runs Sehwag makes at the top of the order are really important. Gambhir and Sachin will look to get their team off to a good start. Indian team middle order has players like Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni and Yusuf Pathan. All these batsmen on their day can take the game away from the opposition. Indian team has decided to go with an extra bowler for today's match so their bowling unit is even more stronger now with the inclusion of Ishant Sharma. We are surely set for a thrilling match!

Indian innings - 1 to 10 overs update
Take your seats, the match is all set to start
The players and the 2 on field umpires, Simon Taufel and Ian Gould made their walk to the middle to start the match. The ground was starting to fill up. The fans cheered for their team as their team players were making their walk into the middle.
Gambhir, took his stance and as expected the opening over of the match was bowled by James Anderson. Everything was set for the thrilling contest to begin so the umpire Simon Taufel, said LETS PLAY!
Sachin at his remarkably best
Sachin Tendulkar, was certainly under pressure coming into this match. His form on this tour hasn't been the best but he started exceptionally well in this match. As it's often seen, when a player is struggling with his form, he tries to be attacking and reach to the double figures as quick as possible. It just gives the player a psychological advantage.
That's what Sachin did! James Anderson was not allowed to settle by Sachin Tendulkar. A single bad delivery and Sachin was not at all stepping back in smashing the delivery for boundary. Broad, shared the new ball with Anderson. Broad was bowling very well from the other end but he was not getting good support from James Anderson. One of the shot Sachin played to Anderson was a joy to watch for the cricket lovers. It was a finest of the leg glances you would ever see.
The Indian team was going all guns blazing with 38/0 after 6 overs but in the 7th over they lost their 1st wicket of, Gautam Gambhir. Strauss set a 6/3 off side field and James Anderson bowled a full length delivery on the off stump and Gambhir tried to hit the ball through the off side field but in the end, managed to hit the ball straight to Kevin Pietersen at the silly mid off.
After Gambhir's wicket, Sachin slowed down a bit but the worry for the English team was that Sachin was already off to a good start and the Indian team as well. Next batsman to come to bat was, Virat Kohli. In the 9th over, Anderson was replaced by Tim Bresnan and in the 10th over Broad was replaced by Paul Collingwood. 3 and 4 runs came off the 2 overs respectively. 10 overs were bowled and the Indian team was off to a good start.
Sachin's wagon wheel - 26* runs off 41 balls
IND : 47/1 after 10 overs Sachin Tendulkar 26*(41)
Virat Kohli 4*(7) Last Wicket : Gautam Gambhir 11(18) Tim Bresnan 1-0-4-0
Paul Collingwood 1-0-3-0
47 from 10 overs from India is a good start. Just below 5 runs per over to start the match with is a good start. They will be looking to bring that run rate up to 7 before the end of the match.
Tendulkar has started nicely, but i would say India bowled out for around 240
We are disappoint on the loss of Gambhir, but its good that Sachin is still there for India.47 runs in first 10 overs isn't too bad.But we need to make sure that we make it to 6 at the end of innings.Hope Kohli scores some runs as well.

Kohli departs for 19
Virat Kohli was looking good at the crease but sadly his innings came to an end in the way of a run out. Kohli played the ball to the fine leg fielder and called for a double. Sachin responded and it seemed that they will finish the double comfortably but Kohli did a silly mistake - not grounded his bat because he thought that he was already in. England players appealed for the run out. Kohli was looking shocked because he thought that he was in. Square leg umpire, Simon Taufel referred the decision to the 3rd umpire and the 3rd umpire, Billy Bowden and he gave it out. Kohli trudged back to the pavilion, he was looking very disappointed. Next batsman who came to bat was : Yuvraj Singh.
After Kohli's wicket, Sachin slowed down a bit. It was important for Sachin to stay at the crease because a new batsman - Yuvraj Singh just came to the crease and it was important as far as Indian team was concern that Sachin doesn't lose his wicket because he was looking well settled in the middle. Sachin provided the needed support for Yuvraj and Yuvraj started his innings in a great fashion! He reached to double figures, 12 by hitting 3 boundaries and suddenly he was looking confident.
Sachin, on other hand was basically rotating the strike and letting Yuvraj do the rest. Sachin slowed down a bit but still reached to his well made 50 off 65 balls. A much needed 50 for him. He hasn't been in the best of the forms on this tour and who knows this fifty would surely be a important one for him.
Sachin's wagon wheel - 25 to 50 runs
Sachin & Yuvraj - Put England team on back foot
After reaching to his fifty, Sachin changed his tactics and started to be attacking. Yuvraj was having the same tactic. Collingwood and Swann were bowling and both the batsmen decided to attack them. Swann was even attacked by the Bangladeshi bowlers in the previous match, he was desperate to do well in this match but even the Indian batsmen attacked him and he was certainly under pressure. Collingwood bowled well against the Bangladeshi team but he wasn't bowling well in this match.
The run rate was improving and the England team was under pressure. Both the bowlers were proving to be expensive so Andrew Strauss decided to replace Collingwood with Bresnan but surprisingly he didn't replace Swann. 24th over was bowled by Bresnan and it was a expensive one, 8 runs came off the over. 25th over from Swann though was a good one, 4 runs came off that over. 25 overs were bowled and the Indian team was going pretty well. Will the Indian team continue to bat well and reach to a really good score of around 280 or above or will the England team strike back by taking some quick wickets? We will see in the next update....
ENG : 146/2 after 25 overs Sachin Tendulkar 71*(78)
Yuvraj Singh 35*(41) Last Wicket : Virat Kohli 19(23) Tim Bresnan 6-0-31-0
Graeme Swann 4-0-26-0
That's some good batting from Sachin. A wonderful timed half century, and he looks good to reach the century even. Yuraj is playing a good supporting innings and India are in a good commanding position. England need to take wickets and take them quickly.

Indian team on the driving seat
Yuvraj departed for 40
The Indian team was going quite well before Yuvraj was out. 10 runs were already made in the 27th over (bowled by Collingwood) but Yuvraj still tried to go for a big shot and gave away his wicket. It was a short delivery by Collingwood. Yuvraj tried to play the ball over the square leg fielder but didn't succeed and departed for 40. The Indian fans were hoping that the next batsmen who will come to bat will be most likely Yusuf Pathan because of his good innings against Bangladeshi team in the previous match but NO. The next batsmen was the Indian captain himself.
Sachin Tendulkar reached to his 45th century
Sachin Tendulkar, on other hand was playing exceptionally well. He was timing the ball to perfection and not allowing the bowlers to build the pressure on the Indian team. Collingwood, in particular was not being allowed by Sachin to settle down. Sachin reached to nervous 90's in the 29th over and from then onwards he took his time in reaching to his century. Sachin Tendulkar reached to his century in the 35th over. What a great innings from Sachin Tendulkar, the crowd appreciated the innings and even Sachin was looking happy and so he should be. 45th century for the LITTLE MASTER in the one day intenationals.
India 241/5 after 40 overs - Raina and Yusuf at the crease
MS Dhoni, was not able to trouble the scorers as he walked back to the pavilion for 6. Dhoni was struggling from the word GO! He was not at all timing the ball well and so was not able to do anything special and walked back to the pavilion for 6 runs off 18 balls. Next batsmen to come to bat was Suresh Raina.
Sachin slowed down a bit before reaching to his century but once he reached to his century he started to be attacking. Sachin was caught behind for 122 but till then he had done his job. Sachin was walking back to the pavilion and the crowd applauded the innings. It would've been a special moment for the people in the crowd (witnessing a Sachin century)!
Next batsmen to come to bat was Yusuf Pathan. Yusuf got off the mark with smashing a boundary through the leg side field. 40 overs were bowled and there were two new batsmen at the crease. The batting powerplay has not been taken yet. England team just needs few more quick wickets and then they might stop Indian team from reaching to a score of 300 or more.
IND : 241/5 after 40 overs Suresh Raina 18*(23)
Yusuf Pathan 5*(7) Last Wicket : Sachin Tendulkar 122(123) James Anderson 7-0-53-1
Graeme Swann 8-0-48-2
Yusuf's fireworks needed to take India beyond a level & make this match a one sided one The presentation has been improved to massive extent from what I read here last time. Keep it up
