India Win By 8 Wickets

badrinathch8.jpg

Badrinath top scoring with 101*

Well the Indians are out and ready to start their innings. The Indians bowled very well, especially the spinners who took 8 wickets between them. Singh the pick of them all with figures of 5-18 and surely putting in a man of the match performance. Chawla got 3 wickets but was a little expensive conceding a little over 50. Khan the only bowler not to get a wicket as all the pace bowlers didn't really have an affect as big as the spinners on the game. The West Indies batting was feeble and only a few batsmen managed to get into the 30's. Gayle top scoring with 36. Surely a win is guaranteed here?

Opening 10 overs
India started their innings well, not losing a wicket in the first 5 overs. Some poor bowling towards the end of the ten overs gifted India some runs though as a very tight and quiet opening 10 overs come to an end. 31/0 the score and Badrinath the only one playing some attacking strokes, he's on 14 from 25 and Sehwag is currently not out on 16 off 36. India are cruising at the moment.

20 overs gone
Sehwag shortly falls in the 13th over to Dwayne Bravo for 18 runs as he misses the ball completely. A poor innings from Virender. Sachin(Tendulkar) and Subram(Badrinath) pick up the run rate a little bit towards the end over the 20 overs with two consecutive fours for Subram. The 20 overs then come to an end as India reach 65/1 and in complete control, if anything batting a little slow. Badrinath is on 31 from 53 and Sachin is even ticking along nicely at 11 from 26.

30 overs gone
Sachin gone! Dave Mohammed is brought into the attack and in his second over he gets Tendulkar LBW. 12 off 32 balls is a little disappointing for the little master. With Jaggernauth and Mohammed in to bowl after the spin attack earlier you would of thought India would be defending them. You'd be wrong. Badrinath the main man attacking as he soon brings up his maiden ODI half century. Well played sir. It wasn't slow either, 72 balls it took him. India lose no more wickets till the 30th over and Badrinath is looking completely set on guiding India home. Rahul Dravid hasn't yet shown his batting ability and is currently on 8 not out of 26 balls. Subram Badrinath though is taking it to the bowlers and is not out on 55 off 82 .

40 overs gone
A change of bowling attack, with spinner Jaggernauth going off for spinner Hinds doesn't start brightly for them as he concedes five runs in his first over. With the spin attack not working Brian Lara soon changes his field and brings Bravo back into the attack to bowl his last over. Not the best of choices as he goes for 9 runs including two consecutive fours from Badrinath and ends up with figures of 1-48. Smith then comes and completes his 10 overs and that means that from here on end it will only be spinners. What a weird decision from Brian Lara. Subram and Rahul keep the runs coming though as they take us to the 40th over. 158/2 the score and Badrinath 89* off 115 balls, so close to his maiden One Day International century. Rahul Dravid on the other hand is just keeping the scoreboard ticking by picking out the bad balls. Good cricket so far.

End of Innings
Needing only 21 runs off the last 10 overs and West Indies needing 8 wickets, there was always only going to be one outcome. Dravid hitting the winning runs as we win without losing anymore wickets. Rahul Dravid finished his innings on 42* from 73 balls, a good batting performance from him. Subram Badrinath though was the pick of the batsmen once again, eventually getting his maiden One Day International century in his first match, and getting it without being removed from the crease! He looks like he is going to be a great talent for years to come in the Indian ranks.

Well what an incredible start for Mr.Edmonds it has been. First the destruction of Guyana which was expected and then this great win. Badrinath has been his little secret weapon, top scoring without getting out in both matches! This time getting his century and ending on 101*. We may as well speak about the bowling for West Indies first and it was definitely woeful. None of the bowlers bowled very well and the only bowler to offer any economical figures was Smith who got 0-26 off 10 overs. Mohammed though was the pick of the spinners as he got the most chances and got the important wicket of Sachin Tendulkar. They still couldn't win though. Onto the batting and that score will no doubt book him his place for almost all the matches in the series. Sehwag and Tendulkar were both disappointing but Dravid stayed in and showed why he is in the team. All in all, 4 players won us the match. Badrinath with his 101*, Dravid with his 42*, Chawla with his 3-52 and lastly Singh's 5-18. A quality match for those 4.

India 179/2
Badrinath 101* Mohammed 1-26
Dravid 42* Bravo 1-48

Man of the Match - Subramaniam Badrinath

My god Badrinath is in cracking form! Easy win for the Indian in the end.

Great, detailed update Jaz. Loving this story! :)

Well bowled Bhajji and good batting by Badri. Beware of Lara though.

West Indies v India

Well after a fantastic win against West Indies and a comfortable win against Guyana, many are hailing Edmonds as their "Coaching Prophet". Badrinath has been incredible for India and Singh started the series well also. Now after winning that first match in the series, we move into the second One Day International where the pitch as changed yet again. The pace bowlers should bowl the best this time but the batsmen may have a little help. Edmonds has made a few changes and here is his squad for the second game:

Rawat
Badrinath
Tendulkar(*)
Dravid
Raina
Dhoni(+)
Sharma
Singh
Kumble
Pathan
Khan

Two players come into the squad and two players swap positions in the batting lineup. After being very disappointing in the last game, Virender Sehwag has been dropped and in his place for his first One Day International at only the age of 19 is Rawat. Badrinath keeps his place after his great performance as does Dravid. Tendulkar stays in but is likely to come out next game. Raina and Dhoni swap positions in the middle order and then we are onto the bowlers. Anil Kumble the only new bowler to be in the next game, in for Chawla who can't bowl on anything but a spinners pitch so a good choice in my opinion. Patel, Jaffer and Singh are the only players not to represent India in this tour. It is going to be hard to bet against India when they have a team like this so many pundits are guessing by how many runs/wickets they are going to win by...

Gayle
Ganga
Lara(*)
Chanderpaul
Sarwan
Hinds
Baugh(+)
Bravo
Smith
Mohammed
Jeremy

Virtually the same team put out by Brian Lara but with the one change. Like we have done, they have taken one spinner out also. They are now going with 2 spinners are 3 pace men on a paceman's pitch. Gayle has an average of 53.43 including the series against Zimbabwe and Ganga averages 23, so we know who to get out. Chanderpaul, Sarwan and Lara make up the rest of the top 5 and all can go and get high scores. Hinds, Bravo and Smith make up the 3 all rounders set by West Indies with Carlton Baugh in the mix. Their two pure bowlers are Nurse who has bowled well this year and Jeremy who hasn't played an ODI yet this season. A good team, but not good enough in my opinion.

Coin Toss

Hello and thank you for joining down here at the Coin Toss. The pitch here today has to be favouring the bowlers just a little bit and with such a fantastic sunny forecast expected for the match you can't really complain/The bounce is average which will offer little help to the bowlers and the wear on the pitch is very good which will help the batters. The outfield isn't particularly fast and the light is very good. The forecast is sunny all day and if the toss is then it's going to be a tough decision on whether to bat or bowl. Brian Lara makes the call of tails and... loses! Sachin Tendulkar then decides to bowl first which has so far this tour won them every game. Sticking to what they know seems to be the message here.

India Bowl Windies Out For 98

gaylegu2.jpg

Chris Gayle; the only resilient batsman

The start of the second match after India won the first One Day International. Zaheer Khan will be opening the bowling with Joginder Sharma, whilst opening the batting for West Indies will be Christopher Gayle and Sherwin Ganga. Zaheer Khan's first chance at opening the bowling as Pathan is given a rest. The game is bound to be a good one and I can see this match being much closer than the one which we had last.

Opening 10 overs
An awesome start to the match for India, especially with the first over going for no runs. Then the second followed suit and after 2 overs the score was still 0/0. Brilliant opening bowling. The opening 5 overs end up only going for 6 runs as India bowl incredibly economical and not really gunning for that first wicket. The first wicket then comes and after playing and missing Ganga hits Sharma for four. Next bowl and he is bowled comprehensively and that takes the score to 10/1 off 6 overs! Incredibly bowling by Khan and Sharma. As India continue to dominate, West Indies find it even harder to find runs and Brian Lara nearly clips one through to Dhoni. He eventually goes though as Joginder Sharma picks up his second wicket as Lara gets caught in the slips by Raina. Lara goes for a measly two and that is the end of the opening 10 overs. 17/2. Khan with figures of 5 overs and 0-10. Whilst Sharma has also bowled 5 overs for 2-7. Absolutely fantastic.

20 overs gone
The run rate quickly rises though as Chanderpaul and Gayle start making some runs; mainly Gayle. Then in the 17th over Pathan makes the breakthrough and gets Chanderpaul lbw for 9 runs. Sarwan comes and nearly goes as a lbw appeal nearly sends him back to the pavillion. Kumble who has bowled poorly so far then comes out for the last over, in comes the Turbanator. With Singh's first bowl he clean bowls Sarwan! He only makes four and gets out to Singh who has been fantastic recently. Singh then completes his over for 1 run and 1 wicket. West Indies ranked up the run rate but only to lose more wickets as they stand on 53/4 off 20 overs. Singh back into the attack and looking fantastic.

30 overs gone
A good start to the 20-30 over period with Singh bowling well and Sharma almost getting Gayle; who is on a one man mission at the moment. Harbhajan Singh then does what he does best although unfortunately he can't get Hinds as Badrinath drops him close in. A few balls later though and he has got the man we wanted... Gayle! The exact same bowl and shot as Hinds' and this time Badrinath holds on. Gayle gone for 33 and I can't see West Indies making a comeback now... another gone! Carlton Baugh the man to be Singh's next victim. Caught in front lbw for a duck off 3 balls. 67/6 and things are not looking good at all. Something good at least then happens as they survive to the 30 over mark and get to the score of 74/6. Hinds still in on 13* and Bravo in with him on 2*.

End of Innings
The spin attack of India then prevails as Hinds goes, the penultimate wicket. Singh getting his fourth wicket, getting Hinds for lbw; his third lbw of the day! A very handy 21 by Hinds but in this match situation it won't help much. Bravo goes and that is it for West Indies. A small 6 from 39 is all he got before going to Kumble in his last over, edging it through to wicket keeper Dhoni. A good spell from Kumble, ending with 1-19. The match then comes to an end as Singh picks up the last two wickets in one over to get 6 wickets in the match. Jeremy and Nurse going straight after each other as West Indies only end up with 98 runs, not even getting 100! Harbhajan Singh surely deserves to get Man of the match this time with his brilliant 6-24. Match winning stuff.

At the end of the first innings, West Indies had got close to 100 but they could only manage 98 in a mediocre, not even that, performance from their batting lineup. Gayle and Hinds were the only batsmen to play remotely well. Gayle getting 33(58) and Hinds managing his 21 off 61 balls. Everyone else batted poor and the same happened in this match that happened in the first one. Harbhajan Singh just taking out everyone and showing how good he really is. 6-24 will surely get him the Man of the match award with Sharma backing him up well with 2-16. Pathan and Kumble both picked up a wicket but for the second time in a row, Zaheer Khan picked up no wickets with his 0-13. The pitch is incredibly hard to judge at the moment but I can't see India coming close to losing now so it's India all the way.

West Indies 98 all out
Gayle 33 Singh 6-24
Hinds 21 Sharma 2-16

India need 98 runs at 1.96 an over

Absoloutly brilliant bowling from Harbhajan. He destroyed the West Indians. Great, detailed update Jaz. Loving this story. :)

India Win By 10 Wickets

rawattp7.jpg

Chandan Rawat bats well on debut

Well the Indians are out and raring to start their innings. The Indian's bowled incredibly well with the usual bowler being a standout. Singh the pick of them all once again, with figures of 6-24 and this time he has surely done enough for the man of the match award. Joginder Sharma got two wickets and bowled very well with Pathan and Kumble getting the others. Khan the only bowler not to get a wicket again as he disappoints once more. The West Indies batting was as bad as ever and they could not even manage to get to 100 runs. They have surely got to bat better in the rest of the series to have a chance of winning.

Opening 10 overs
Rawat making a debut here and he starts it well as he hits a four first ball! India keep the runs coming at a measly run rate until the 8th over when they start to explode. After scoring more runs in the latter section of the opening 10 overs, India find themselves in a comfortable position on 35 for 0. They only need 64 more runs to win! Rawat has started his first One Day International well on 14* but Badrinath is starting to accellerate on 21*.

20 overs gone
The 50 run milestone soon came up and by the 50th over India needed less than 50 runs to win. The batsmen continue to dominate though and the bowlers aren't even getting chances of getting them out. The 20 over mark is soon passed and with the score on 82/0, India only need 17 runs off 30 overs to win. Rawat has 33 not out off 63 balls in his One Day International debut and Badrinath has 48 not out off 58 balls in his first One Day International series, albeit his 2nd ODI.

End of Innings
That didn't take long at all! The Indian's only needing 24 overs to reach their target of 99, as they went and got 102. A massive 10 wicket win and there were no doubts in the end on who would win, especially after the West Indies batted so poorly the first time round. Badrinath hitting the eventual winning runs as we completely dominate. Rawat impressed a lot with his 39* off 72 balls and not getting out in his first ever ODI. A good batting performance from the newbie. Subram Badrinath was again the pick of the batsmen as he got his first ever One Day International half century. He also got another not out score as he got 60 off 76 and has been showing great deals of promise. He will surely been in this Indian team in the next few years.

2 games and 2 wins, a brilliant start for the new Indian coach. The series have gone brilliantly so far and Badrinath and Singh have just been the best players so far by miles. This time he could only get a half century, but considering West Indies only got 98, he was never going to get his 100. We may as well speak about the bowling for West Indies first and it was incredibly dire. All the bowlers were terrible and none really stood out as being economical or even bowling well. None of them got a wicket or even a good chance so no one can be deemed as the best bowler. The batting though was definitely very good and some of the best batting all series. Badrinath has kept his place up there and still looks like India's best batsman at the moment despite being only 25. Rawat had a good first ODI as he scored 39* off 72 but compared to Badrinath's 60* off 76 it isn't that good. Overall a great performance by everyone in the field and to the two batsmen.

India 102/0
Badrinath 60*
Rawat 39*
