When in HUD off, why does the marker sometimes come up and sometimes not.

Could it be that it is coming up too late for you to see it, or certain balls only? The timing of that marker is linked to the batsman's stats, the more they have their eye in and the better batsman they are, the earlier and more accurately you see it.

I have to say it seemed pretty arbitrary to me. But then you can't see your confidence or fitness so it's hard to say.

Maybe it depends what stadium you're at but I've done it/seen it

Definitely yes although a lot of "perfect" strokes don't go.

Not much has been said about the advance down the wicket option. Is it as powerful as AC09? Does it still destroy the spinners?

You only need to complete the batting, bowling and fielding tutorials that takes about 30 minutes to an hour. That unlocks 3 stadiums and the rest are already avaliable. And the answer to your two further qestions is yes.

Also what is HUD(broadcast bat)- Full off minimal

There are 3 levels of HUD

Full : Everything on the screen, all the bells and whistles

Minimal : Just the fieldsettings and the bowling marker for where the ball pitches

Off: nothing at all!

The 3 levels of HUD can be used in both broadcast and Action cam.
