Bombay v England A - 3 day match - at Wankhede Stadium, Bombay - 1991/2

A five and a half hour 144 from experienced allrounder and current India opener Ravi Shastri lead a strong Bombay reply which stetched into Day 3 after the loss of over 2 hours play due to Thunderstorms.
The home side declared early on Day 3 shortly after young left hander Vinod Kambli had posted an unbeaten half century.
Star batsman Sachin Tendulkar also passed 50 as the England A bowlers struggled on a pitch which had slowed down to a Normal wicket on Day 2.
The England A seamers lacked penetration in Humid conditions on Day 2 which were aiding their Swinging deliveries and only Alan Igglesden with 2-65 emerged with credit.
With the pitch continuing to wear very slowly the match seems headed for a Draw.

The England A top 5 gained some useful batting practice in their 2nd innings with opener Martyn Moxon following his first innings hundred with a half century.
Hugh Morris and Kim Barnett were also in decent touch for the visitors while Bombay left arm spinner Ravi Shastri took 3 cheap wickets.
A declaration half an hour before Tea on Day 3 left the England A bowlers some time to find form with a wicket or two before the Unofficial Test series with India A begins.

Bombay v England A - 3 day match - at Wankhede Stadium, Bombay - 1991/2

The Bombay openers put on a stand of 169 for the 1st wicket but a slow start meant a target of 215 for victory off what became 40 overs was never attempted.
Kim Barnett dismissed Ravi Shastri for 88 with with his leg spin off the final ball of the match while Jayakaprash Jadhav was left not out on 75* as the match was left Drawn.
The England A batsmen had gained a lot from a high scoring game but their bowlers were not so lucky on a pitch which wore slowly and never offered the expected help for the spinners.
Ravi Shastri was named Man of the Match for his scores of 144 and 88 and bowling figures of 2-81 and 3-25.
We now head to Delhi for the 1st Unofficial Test of a 6 match series between India A and England A.

After taking first use of a wicket that looked good for batting the Zimbabwe XI were indebted to a well paced hundred by the experienced Ali Omarshah as they managed to post 207/9 off 50 overs.
When Omarshah was out the score stood at 158/5 off 40.1 leaving the tail to drag the home side past 200.
Fast bowler Craig McDermott put an ordinary first outing behind him as he took 3 wickets in a much improved display in his 2nd game of the Tour.
The Australian XI used 8 bowling in order to give management a look at all their team's support bowlers in Zimbabwean conditions before the ODI series starts.

A stroke filled 79 off 65 balls with 13 fours by opener Geoff Marsh set up an easy 8 wicket Australian win with 12.1 overs to spare.
Mark Taylor looked in better touch than the first game in posting an unbeaten 89* as the visitors bounced back from a loss to post their first win of the tour.
Medium pacer Craig Evans was the only successful bowler for the home side but his 2 wickets made little difference.
The form of Tom Moody might be a concern for Australian team management as he registered his 2nd failure in 2 innings in a poor start to the tour.
Marsh was named Man of the Match for his innings which trumped Al Omarshah's hundred and set up an easy win.

Pitch: - 87 - A well prepared pitch which is likely to play easily throughout the match.
There may be some help for the seamers on the first morning until the affects of overnight watering wear off but after that happens the bowlers are likely to toil.

Day 1 Starting Pitch: - 6 - Green Wicket

Day 1 Weather: - 2 - Hot and Sunny

Winning the Toss and bowling first with the ideal attack for the seam friendly conditions the England XI bowled the Auckland XI for 166 with about 12 overs left on Day 1.
The 4 frontline seamers and part time medium pacer Graham Gooch were all amongst the wickets on a pitch which stayed Green until Tea.
Medium Fast bowler Steve Watkin was the pick of the bowlers with 3-47 and Martin Bicknell also impressed with 2-34 off 19 overs at an Economy Rate of under 2 runs per over.
Tailenders Murphy Sua and Chris Pringle both resisted for over 2 hours to drag their side past 150 and frustrate the visitors but the England A side had gained what looked a significant advantage after bowling first.
With the pitch now set to by a Good Batting Wicket for probably the rest of the match the visitors look set to see the best of the conditions after winning an important Toss.

Auckland XI v England XI - 3 day match - at Eden Park, Auckland - 1991/2

England XI captain Graham Gooch top scored with 57 and middle order batsman Matthew Maynard impressed with an unbeaten half century as the visitors declared their innings at 274/6 late on Day 2.
Humid Conditions on Day 2 saw the ball swing around but the Auckland XI seamers failed to take advantage and lacked penetration on what had become a flat pitch.
Left arm spinner Mark Haslam flighted the ball well on a flat pitch to be the best of the Auckland XI bowlers.
The Auckland XI will begin their 2nd innings trailing the England XI by 108 runs and the visitors bowlers hoping to bowl as well as the 1st innings.

A patient unbeaten century to young Auckland XI opener Blair Pocock saw the home side to safety before a declaration with a little over an hour left on Day 3.
The England XI seamers failed to back up their first innings performance in conditions that remained Humid and aiding Swing into the final day.
Pocock shared a partnership of 94 for the 2nd wicket with captain Jeff Crowe to erase the deficit and take the Auckland XI into the lead after the visitors attack ran out of ideas on a Good Batting Wicket.
Fast Medium bowler Martin Bicknell was the pick of the attack and again conceded under 2 runs per over.

The England XI batted out the remaining overs for just the loss of Mike Atherton to offspinner Paul Wiseman for 18 to leave the match Drawn.
Captain Graham Gooch scored an unbeaten 28* and after his 1st inning fifty seems to be running back into form after getting out cheaply in both 50 over games.
After a bright start to the match by the England XI bowlers the match petered out on a flat pitch.
