25 Over Update
Zimbabwe 5/253
G.Flower - 29 (26)
T.Taibu - 19 (14)
Zimbabwe have scored at a fast rate throughout the innings, but in doing so have lost wickets at crucial moments and haven't made enough big partnerships. Marillier (13 off 11 balls) was the first to go in the Zimbabwe innings, he fell off Vaas' bowling with the score on 24. This wicket followed another strong 2nd wicket partnership by Zimbabwe. Ebrahim and Friend put on a 108 stand, with both scoring quickly. Ebrahim (43 off 33 balls) was the next to go off the bowling of Dharmasena (3 overs 1/38) with the score on 132. After the wicket of Ebrahim, Friend let lose smashing Vaas (9 overs 1/101) and Muralitharan (5 overs 4/42) working his way to 71 off 52 balls before he popped up a catch to Vaas off Muralitharan's bowling (F.O.W 155). This brought Ervine to the crease with Flower, Zimbabwe needed another major partnership. The pair managed to take the score to 213 before Ervine (34 off 21 balls) was bowled by a magnificent delivery from Muralitharan. Going around the wicket the ball pitched on middle & leg and spun sharply to take Ervine's off stump while he was looking to work the ball on the on side. Streak (6 off 5 balls) came to the crease but the stay was brief when he flicked one right down Muralitharan's throat off the bowling of Gamage (8 overs 1/58). The fall of that wicket has brought us to the current partnership of Flower and Taibu who need to score at just over 8.5 an over and desperately need to build a solid partnership if Zimbabwe are going to challenge this massive Sri Lankan total.
