I really want to know what these other action movies are, that you keep referring to

And ratings are something that you just cannot take seriously. Is Shawshank Redemption really the universally accepted, greatest movie ever made just because it is topping the IMDB rankings ? Is Her a better movie than Jurassic Park just because it is higher up on the ranking table ? IMDB rankings are bogus for comparison.

Infact I will partly answer my question - the last non-superhero "action" movie I found as thrilling and entertaining as GOTG would be Skyfall and MI4. I would rate them all equally high because despite being very different, they all exceeded my expectations are very excellent movies overall.

Divergent. It may be because I like Shailene Woodley but I enjoyed Divergent much more than The Hunger Games films, to which it is superior. I thought the acting, the direction, and structure of the screenplay were all solid. Yes, there is a pattern to it which is recognizable and arguably derivative, but I was not able to predict what was going to happen or to whom. And I was emotionally moved, which always scores big points for me.

Yeah thanks. I've seen all the crime movies you suggested me leaving out The Departed, which I intentionally left to watch in the end. Good to know that I've watched every movie I wanted just at the end of my 3 month summer vacation considering my school is about to start and I will only be watching movies on weekends.
