Making bowling more enjoyable, seeing weather/pitch effects etc. - invitation to playtest

Effort Dave. You're doing a great job. I'm sorry I'm not being much help at the moment. Wedding is Saturday so being ordered around like a soldier!

Well I wanted to share these ones because they're done a littlebit differently though on similar principles... Hopefully if several people try them out we can get a better sample.

It was effort mind... Had a spreadsheet and everything!

A Spreadsheet? Mate that is a top effort! I once decided to make my own leagues on Cricket Coach and pulled names out of hats and had about 18 pages of random teams, but never a Spreadsheet! What was bad though was you can't make your own leagues on Cricket Coach!

Keep up the good work guys. I'll try in check in before the weekend and see where you've got to.

Right I started a ODI match with Blocker Daves teams (Weaklings v ENG Rebels) on Pro difficulty played 19 overs and they were 83-2 and then sadly my game crashed and I hadnt it saved :(

From what I did play I must say I really enjoyed the bowling experience with the ball beating the bat and a few mis-hits from AI and thought the AI run rate an pacing was spot on as they lost 2 early wickets one caught at mid off and the other at point and were 23-2.

I'll try again over the weekend with Daves updated WI and ENG teams - Thanks for taking the time to sort this BlockerDave

BTW has the fielders running stats been amended too one thing I did notice was that the fielders run to field the ball at a more realistic pace?

with new updated teams WI and ENG what type of match will i play ? Test or other format

I did yesterday and its true, everytime its "almost" an edge but no edge whatsoever....Will try it out today as well....

As I said to Blocker yesterday if this is the case decrease the outside a little more for a couple of seam bowlers, 4/5 for outswing ,1/2 for inswing should suffice and remember that conditions will play a big part now so if they are batting friendly it can still be a struggle.

Yeah I reduced running and acceleration attributes (amongst others)

It'll be interesting to see how the testing transfers over to limited overs game and if there can be a universal set of attributes for every match type.

I ended up playing a bit last night and this morning with a really low straight bat and flat bat skill set but the ff/bf set at 10 on pro level. All that I got was the batsmen playing silly shots to get out (cook chipping to fine leg in the 8th over with the run rate at 3.1 from a straight ball, for example). When I had the ff/bf setting at around 6, and the straight bat and flat bat at 4 ( I think onside/offside were around 6 as well) I got a hell of a lot more edges and LBW appeals. So I'm now wondering if ff/bf skills attribute more to the edges than the straight bat/flat bat skills. Just a thought.

yeah, one of the reasons in putting the experiment in a public thread was to see if people would play other match types (we were all playing on test) and see how it would work out

I have just set up a game with increased swing for bwolers and everything set to 6 for openers, 5 for middle order, 3 for all rounders etc.

41/1 off the first 15. Top edge by Rogers to 1st slip. They seem to like playing the pull shot a lot, but I've had one inside edge onto pad, 2 very close LBW appeals, one which I reviewed, and the new ball seemed to actually do a lot more than before. Its set on random pitch, but the pitch seems dusty wih a hint of green at one end. Clear day forecast.

Test match? Pro mode? And how many increments for the swing?

played another t20 on legend with flat hard pristine road this time AI played more positively and scored at a healthy tick, got gooch out edging by following two outswingers with a inswinging one, got only three wickets but there was a drop and one wkt of no ball and felt like bowling on a belter ai hit quite a few boundaries, spin was able to put some control over the batting. AI ended with 146-3.

The experience felt quite different to the one i had on a grassy cracked pitch were the bowler was on top of the batting all times.
both matches i think the new skills are holding good except may be 20 odd short to what would be deemed average in both pitches for a t20, though i would put it more to lack of format context awareness of ai with wickets in hand than the new skill values , a bit more of a slog in the last 3 overs of a t20 match especially when batting first should be made 90% compulsory.

Yeah that's the thing here, we're obviously still dealing with the limitations of the AI but in general I think things have improved significantly[DOUBLEPOST=1429176087][/DOUBLEPOST]@Chief what's your take on the reticence to give advice/clarity about setting skills?

Sorry pal been busy.

I will always be on Pro Mode and playing in Test Match, unless otherwise stated, as I don't like limited over cricket that much and I'm crap at batting!

I had Jimmy Anderson and Ryan Harris up to Middle for both in and out swing, and then decreased from there based on my opinion of the bowlers. So for example, Ben Stokes, I had him about 5 increments down from middle for swing, but also removed 5 increments from straight seam.

Mitch Johnson I kept his swing down about 3/4 from middle but his straight seam on full.

I feel to get the right balance of a Test Match, its important that each has player has a differing ability (thus making bowling changes meaningful) so this is how I've been setting things up.

EDIT: I have also lowered the Anticipation attribute to middle, and then increased a bit for top order and middle order. I feel that this should alter the batsmen timing, however, I do not know whether this has had any effect (affect?!) anything!
