Johnson is a far better bowler that it isn't a contest. Anderson has had one good series against New Zealand whilst Johnson has terrorised the batting lineups of South Africa and India.

Johnson (or as sid likes to spell it) Jhonson is miles better than Anderson, for the sheer fact he is a game winner and has the ability to take 5 for 2 and turn a test match around. He proved himself against South Africa that he is ready to be Australia's strike bowler, and is capable under pressure.

I'm yet to see much variation from Johnson other than his bouncer. Anderson doesn't have the pace but has the inswinger, outswinger, slower ball and also moves it off the seem which is why I definitely see him as the more skilled bowler.

To say Johnson doesn't have variation is laughable. He gets a little bit of movement and has one of if not the best slower balls.

A 'little bit of movement' and a good slower ball. What magnificent variation...

As I said, Johnson is more effective but Anderson has more in his bowling repertoire so take that as you will.

Johnson also bowls very subtle cutters, normally Leg-cutters, which at his pace are incredibly dangerous. Add that to his raw pace, his fantastic bouncer and changes in pace make him not only effective but very successful. I'd probably agree that Anderson is more skilled though, not many bowlers can conventionally swing the ball both ways at that pace with very little change to his action. He's a different prospect from Hoggard, who's changes in swing are noticeable in his action. Jimmy also swings the ball late, which makes him incredibly hard to play. He has all the tricks in the book, a decent slower ball and an effective bouncer. I think 2009 could be a good year for him, his body seems to have finally grown to accomodate his action and he had a successful 2008 and if he can build on that this year he could finish with very good figures. He's certainly the key for England as the Australian's don't tend to play swing well, and he's probably the best natural swing bowler in the world after Zaheer Khan.

Mitchell Johnson.

The lad has gained a lot of late, he's also finding some consistency. Something which Anderson never has or never looks like gaining. If I was a captain, and I could only give one of them the new ball, it wouldn't be Anderson.

I think Johnson is better, but let him perform outside Australia. Even Ajit Agarkar and Irfan Pathan got Australian batsman out down under. It's ridiculously favored towards the quicks, just like spin in the subcontinent.

He performed in India and in the West Indies.

Johnson isn't a new ball specialist and is used as a first change.

He can get quite a bit of reverse swing, a good bouncer, a good slower ball and a deadly leg cutter at about 140+ks. Plus he bowls that tough angle across the right hander.
