Mumbai Indians - #BestOfTheBest

So let's get things under way now..... I'll start with the line-up

:ind:Rohit Sharma :c::bat:
:ind:Ishan Kishan :wk:
:ind:SKY :bat:
:ind:Tilak Varma :ar:
:wi:Kieron Pollard v/:c::ar::os:
:sin: Tim David :ar::os:
:aus:Daniel Sams :ar::os:
:ind:Mayank Markhande :bwl:
:ind:Jaydev Unadkat :bwl:
:ind:Jasprit Bumrah :bwl:
:aus: Riley Meredith :bwl::os:

Back-ups
:saf: Dewald Brevis :ar::os:
:ind: Basil Thampi :bwl:
:eng: Tymal Mills :bwl::os:
:ind: Murugan Ashwin :bwl:

Unfortunately the pace bowling department seems weak this time. With the absence of Hardik we need an all-rounder and someone like Sams pretty much makes it up for him. I don't think we have enough depth in our Overseas squad so this is going to be bold, but we need to play only 3 Overseas players on turning pitches. On pitches which has pace and bounce, someone like Riley Meridith is a good choice. Personally I don't rate Tymal Mills as much and if we are going to rely on him then he would be more like McCleanaghan than Boult. And we do have someone like Unadkat so this is just unnecessary!! Btw we can have Brevis in place of Tilak Varma.

The middle order looks pretty strong with hard hitting players like Pollard & Tim David. Not to forget that Varma strikes at mid 140s and is quite consistent on the other hand, Brevis can play shots on all sides of the ground. The biggest problem I see here is the lack of availability for a wicket-keeper other than Ishan Kishan.

I won't say we've got a strong squad this time but it still looks exciting!!

Mumbai IMO seems to have built their squad for next season primarily. A season of IPL under the belt for Varma and Brewis will do them wonders and I wouldn't be surprised to see them starring next time around. Their playing XI lacks batting depth unfortunately ATM.

Rohit
Kishan
SKY
Overseas Batter/Brewis
Varma
Pollard
David/Domestic AR
Archer
Markande/Ashwin
Bumrah
Thampi/Unadkat/Overseas Pacer

This is a very good XI IMO. Unadkat under the right captain can be a dangerous weapon if used upfront instead of faffing about in the death overs. Thampi is a potentially interesting pacer too. If they fail to impress this time around, I wouldn't be surprised to see Mumbai try to sign another quality overseas pacer like Starc/Woakes/Jhye in the next auction.

@Bevab would you consider playing Ashwin ahead of Markhande. I think with Markhande already being in MI's set up in the past would be more confident to perform and he knows Wankhede surface pretty well!

Both favour their googlies heavily in comparison to their stock ball. Ashwin barring last season was surprisingly economical though, I suppose you go with whichever one looks the part on the day.

To be honest, Mills over Meredith any day for me. Brewis and David can be played interchangeably.

Rohit
Ishan
Surya
Varma
Brewis/Pollard
Pollard/David
Sams
Unadkat/Thampi (maybe a Sanjay Yadav or play both leggies)
Ashwin/Markande
Mills/Meredith
Bumrah

Won't be a good call to keep Unadkat out. He can be very effective on that dry Wankhede track in mid-May. Tim David is a good spinner, so he along with Markhande will be a good bowling pair. If it's spinning Allen for Sams should be a direct replacement. Btw Sams is a better bowler than Allen while batting is almost similar.

So your only change would be Unadkat in for Sanjay? I have not seen David bowling so don't have an idea regarding that. If he could be the like for like replacement for Krunal (don't get me wrong, I mean the style of play), then we can go with three out and out seamers + Sams.
