Chapter 26 ~ Second Innings: Rest Of Match

Steven Smith came on to bowl his second over. Hopefully he could take a wicket to give us an advantage going into the last 8 over?s or so. Steven duly delivered clean bowling Jason Krejza for 2 and we had probably gave us the edge in this match. That wicket brought Brett Geeves and provided he didn?t get going, we were in a very good position. Smith struck again later in the over after Geeves had scored a single and it was the very big wicket of Travis Birt, who was trying to slog the spinner over mid wicket but it just went straight to the fielder and he was frustrated at himself for losing his wicket like that. That was a very big over taking 2 wickets for only the 2 runs off it and we were now in the better position.

They brought up the hundred with an edge through the slips cordon off Prithviraj for 4. Only 5 runs were scored off the over though which put the game further and further in our favour. Steven Smith after his superb previous over was allowed to continue into his third over. 6 runs were scored off the over, all singles which meant they were rotating the strike. They were still in trouble though requiring 67 runs from 7 over?s. Henriques took the ball himself off Prithviraj. A close LBW shout was the only highlight of the over, but it was turned down by the umpire and rightly so as it was missing leg. There were 6 runs from the over and they needed more than singles if they wanted to win. Steven Smith had one more over left and he was about to bowl it.

A better over for the batsman it was, Smith conceding 9 off it, 3 doubles and 3 singles but the Required Run Rate was now above 10 an over. Henriques was to continue. Naved-ul-Hasan hit a beautiful 4 down the ground but only managed to score 7 off the over and the Required Run Rate was rising. I was given the ball again to try and get a wicket or keep the run rate down. I knew it was a time to make my economy rate better. I started off with a yorker but is was hammered down the ground for 4. I wasn?t happy as I headed back to my mark.

Tough_Time_For_Batsman.jpg

I got my man though deciding to bowl a slower ball which was full and he tried to loft it over mid on but it went straight to him where Steven Smith took the catch. In reply, he jumped on my back. ?Get off Steve, you?re going to break my back?, I said to him which he did and the rest of the team congratulated me. 8 wickets down now and that was my third wicket. Oh man, I got a wicket but it was a no ball. The crowd supported the umpires decision as we were playing in Hobart. I redid my run up so I would hopefully not overstep again.

9 runs came from the over in the end and Hazlewood came on to bowl his last over after taking 3 wickets in his opening spell. Could he finish the game here and now. 36 runs required from 3 over?s, 2 runs a ball. It was going to be tough for the batsman. Holy ████, Geeves just hit a yorker from Josh Hazlewood for six. What a shot and the crowd gave a huge roar. Geeves was now timing the ball well and played another lofted shot over square leg but only got a single for it. It wasn?t over just yet. OMG, another boundary and 11 off the over with 1 ball left in it. A dot ball to finish but an expensive over. 25 runs needed off 2 over?s. Starc came on to bowl his second over. Brett Geeves was on fire hitting his second six, this time even bigger than the previous one and the pressure was back on us.

Geeves_and_Doherty_Get_It_Going.jpg

Geeves now had 28* off 18 balls with no fours and 2 sixes. Another 6 runs were scored from the rest of the over so it was 13 needed off the last over. I was handed the ball. Moises said to me, ?Don?t bowl yorkers to Geeves or he will put you out of the park. Put it on a good length. Keep it reasonably full for Doherty.? Doherty was on strike. 1st ball of my over was cover driven for a single so now Geeves was on strike. A good length ball was deflected down to short third man for 1 and I had bowled a dot ball next up to Doherty. 11 runs required from 3 balls. No!! It was a no ball. Luckily no runs were scored off the bat though so it was 10 runs required from 3 balls still. Lofted over cover for 1 by Doherty but now Geeves was on strike with 9 runs needed from 2 balls.

2 fours would tie the game while a four and a six would win it. Geeves hit me for 4 and it was 5 required off 1 ball. I knew I couldn?t bowl it very short or very full otherwise Geeves would probably hit it for six. I bowled it outside off on a good length. Geeves played the lofted back foot cover drive and it went to the fielder in the deep and only 1 run was scored giving us a 3 run win. We celebrated a good win. Steven Smith got man of the match for his 37 off 27 balls followed by taking 2/27 from 4 over?s. I felt a little hard done by not to get MOTM, having scored 46 off 34 and then taking 3 wickets with the ball but I was way too expensive. Oh well, at least we won.

Pretty good performance by you, and you're always going to get tonked around in 20/20 games. The Tassie tail did wag though so you can always work on your bowling that way ;)

Good presentation though and good win. KIU :)

Chapter 27 ~ NSW vs VIC Pre-Match

After a good result in the match against Tasmania, we were wanting to make it 2 from 2 after the match against Victoria. We were having a quick nets session before the team for that match was chosen. I was having a bowl to Phil Jaques. I bowled alright to him but I couldn?t get him out. I tried the yorker, a few slower balls, on a good length, even a bouncer. Jaques wasn?t playing any T20 shots though. After that, the coach called us over to announce the squad for the match against Victoria.

NSW_v_VIC_Pre_Match_Training.jpg

?Ok, the squad for the T20 match against Victoria is as follows?. We were waiting anxiously to know who was selected. He continued, ?Ok, opening batsman are the same in Phil Hughes and David Warner. Phil Jaques will replace Prithviraj at #3 and Brendon Hedger will get a promotion and will bat at #4.? I was very happy that I was batting at 4 for this match after scoring 46 batting at #5 the previous match. Henriques will stay as captain but move down to #5. Thornely will bat at #6 with Steve Smith, Dan Smith and Dwayne Smith at 7, 8 and 9 respectively. The 2 final bowlers will be Aaron Bird and Josh Hazlewood. Sorry to those who haven?t been selected. You will get your chance if you work hard at training?. I was looking forward to facing Victoria in this T20 match.

Congratz on your batting promotion, lets hope you can make full use of it.
Lol, on the third image, it looks like Jaques is playing it from behind the wickets.

It seems that Brendon Hedger is coming along nicely like a YP in battrick. :p

You're looking good in practice there.Good luck for the game and hope you deliver the best.Nice going so far here.

Chapter 28 ~ An Interesting Start

The day had come that we were playing Victoria. It was a nice clear night so there would most probably be no rain coming down during the match. The pitch was pretty ordinary, not giving an advantage to either side. We would still be wanting to bat first though if we won the toss. There line-up was:

1. Brad Hodge
2. Matthew Wade (wk)
3. Cameron White (C)
4. David Hussey
5. Dwayne Bravo
6. Aaron Finch
7. Andrew McDonald
8. John Hastings
9. James Pattinson
10. Jon Holland
11. Dirk Nannes

Match Conditions

Moises came back with the news that we would be bowling first. We would want to get early wickets. We made our way out to the middle, Hazlewood warming up to take the new ball. We got into our positions, ready to take early wickets.

A Nice Clear Night

Hazlewood?s first over was great, only conceding 2 runs off it, 2 quick singles and 1 was a leg bye. Aaron Bird took the ball from the other end. Wade then got the first boundary with a lofted shot over square leg. We would hope he didn?t do that for too much longer. He did though, 3 balls later cutting it over point for another 4. A few singles to finish the over and 10 runs came from it. It was only 12/0 though after 2 over?s. Hazlewood continued after his superb first over. He tried a bouncer and it nearly worked catching the top edge but it went well fine of the fine leg and another boundary. Hodge had his first boundary of the match. Idiotic running between Hodge and Wade cost Wade his wicket and he was out for 9. Dwayne Smith put in a good through from mid on where there was never 2 and Dan Smith took off the bails, Wade well short of his ground. 1/17 off 2.2 over?s.

Exciting_Start.jpg

That didn?t stop Hodge from smashing the ball around the park, hitting a nice glance over square leg for 4. 12 runs off the over in the end but we had taken the wicket of Wade. We would now want to get White quickly. Aaron Bird was allowed to continue despite his first expensive over. White was away though with a lofted shot over mid wicket for his first boundary. Bird tried fuller but White still dispatched him to the boundary over mid wicket. I told Bird to bowl a bit wider. He got it wider and White only managed to find deep point for a single. He found the inside edge of Hodge next ball but luckily for Hodge, it fell straight to the ground, away from the stumps. Bird finished the over strongly with 2 dots but still, 10 runs came from the over.

Hodge-White_Partnership.jpg

Dwayne Smith was given the ball. His first ball was put away by Cam White over mid on. He got his revenge though, getting a ball into White?s ribs and he failed to get bat on ball. The big wicket of Hodge came in that over, the batsman failing to get enough elevation on the ball and an easy catch came for Hazlewood at cover. 5 runs off the over and a wicket and they were 40/2 after 5 over?s. A very interesting start. I was given the ball to replace Bird after his 2 expensive over?s.

Pretty even so far.
You guys have two wickets, but they are traveling at eights.
Nice work as usual, keep it up.

Haven't seen this bad a response since I started this story, haha. Only 2 comments in about 4 days. Anyway, I should have an update done by the weekend. I'm about half way through the update but I won't have much time over the week.

The main reason in big bash is completed and no one is watching frc. So, promote yourself to Australia A and then, you can see some comments:)
