New Zealand Domestic Season

I didn't actually see the game today. Yeah it must have been the flight :p

So are all games being televised this year, or is it just a selection like last year?

I thought they all were shown last year? I think they're all being shown... that's what I gathered from the ads

Nah I think there are some games which are being played at the same time so they aren't all shown, but I think there is like 20 out of 30 games which is quite a lot.

ferg512 added 1 Minutes and 28 Seconds later...

I completely forgot ND had Styris this year. Wasn't he MVP for the last one? ND may actually give Auckland and CD a good run when they get their black caps back, but I did read that Vettori may be rested....

Yeah, 19 out of the 31 matches are going to be shown from what I heard.

1.Warner/Gibbs
2.Hodge
3.Flynn
4.Styris
5.McGlashan
6.Marshall
7.Vettori
8.Southee
9.Aldridge
10.Boult
11.Arnel

The problem with that is there's still very little fire power in the middle order.
Flynn, Marshall and Vettori are all unlikely to win a game scoring at like 10 an over, sure you're likely to get a good start, and the bowling looks solid, but that was your major problem last night, and I don't think just adding Styris in there is going to solve it. Just looked up the stats, Flynn, Styris, McGlashan, Marshall, and Vettori all have S/R's of 130 or less. You really need someone like Colin de Grandhomme who's going to come out and take the attack to the bowlers, no matter what the situation is, Southee is probably the player closest to what I'm meaning.

McGlashan and Marshall can do that. And Southee (:D). Styris can as well, but Gibbs and Hodge should give us a pretty decent platform at the top of the order.

Bowling wise, we get Southee, Styris and Vettori back, three of the best T20 bowlers in the country

Marshall's not really a big hitter at all, his S/R is under 120, and he's only averaging one six every three matches. I know Styris and Southee are decent hitters, but I said a middle order of Flynn, Marshall, and Vettori isn't really suited to T20.

I like the look of our line-up, but what are they going to do about our bowlers?
Adams, Mills, Tuffey, Martin, Bates, Hira, and B. Singh.
C. Munro's more of a bowler as well.
You'd think Adams, Mills, Tuffey, and Martin all have to play, but Bates and Hira were two of the best T20 bowlers last season, so you wouldn't really want to leave either of them out.

Hakaraia looked impressive, so if we bring in Guptill for Munro and Hopkins for the other keeper (Cachopa), we'll have a pretty decent batting line-up. I'd probably prefer CdG down at 5/6, and Vincent up opening. As we saw today Vincent took a while to get his eye in, while CdG can go from ball one which was what we needed down the order today.

I'd probably go:

Adams
Guptill/Vincent
Guptill/Vincent
Hakaraia/Kitchen
de Grandhomme
Hopkins
Adams
Mills
Hira (probably need a spinner)
Two of Tuffey/Bates/Martin

If he wants to Marshall could probably hit it far :p He did score 150odd in an ODI (against Ireland but still...) I think we'll do fine with regards to the middle order though.

I'd think that Auckland would play Bates seeing as he was MVP and was crucial in their success in the HRV cup last season.

I just remembered Tuffey's out injured anyway, so that helps the situation somewhat.

I don't like the idea of playing five more or less specialist bowlers, but I'm pretty sure that's what they'll do, as our only genuine AR is de Grandhomme.

Adams and Mills would definitely be useful with the bat in T20s though.

Lol at the game today, five dropped catches, and add another probably five mis-fields on top of that.

It shows you where our domestic game's at, when a guy who's never even got a look into the Aussie scene is just more or less unplayable. He confirmed how average Broom is as well.

Otago were robbed by a shocking decision, Wagner had that Aussie plumb, and he wasn't giving, that would of giving him four wickets in five balls, and probably been the killing blow for Wellington, but credit to them they managed to get over the line.

Luke Wright had a shocker as well, three dropped catches, nine an over with the ball, and was put down on six.

Thanks for the summary Callum, I'm actually surprised that we scored over 150! Otago looks real average, no real fire-power in the batting. Redmond is probably the closest thing we've got to a good aggressive batsman with the McCullums away. Broom on his day can be good and aggressive but he's not exactly one who's going to consistently score runs at a S/R of over 150, his game's just not that suited to T20 cricket. Yet he's played 9 T20's for the blackcaps :lol

lol at RTD, last over he drops a skier. This over he is brought on to bowl - first ball gets an edge that is dropped by Young, second ball bowls Pollard.

And Auckland are batting terribly against ND :D Annoyingly that game isn't on tv

Pollard looking like a real good prospect for us, wtf is going on with Auckland against ND? 69-8!!

haha they're all out for 74 :D Looks like good fielding and some good bowling from Boult and Aldridge, with the two imports being economical with their part-time off-spin.

Pollard does look quite good though. Apparently he's drawn comparisons to Guptill but better

Ooh McGlashan gone early imagine if Auckland defend it. Btw the shortness of these boundaries are painful, the basin doesn't have the longest ones as it is and they still bring them in.
