New Zealand in Australia Nov-Dec 2008 Feb 2009

Guptill is just sheer class. I think he's one of the better openers NZ has produced. Move Ryder down the order, he's kind of mindless at times. Honestly these guys at the top need to convert their starts or else they should either move down the order out be dropped.

Guptill and McCullum should open and Ross Taylor should be 3. Styris, Oram (If fit) Ryder, and whoever else you've got:p.

New Zealand would wish this guy would be back, because when he played they were higher in the rankings.

If he came back NZ odds would certainly shorten. He always performs against us and with our batting the way it is I wouldn't be surprised if he ripped through us.

Pretty good side named by the PM 11

Justin Langer (WA, capt), George Bailey (Tas), Jason Behrendorff (ACT), Dan Christian (SA), Callum Ferguson (SA), Moises Henriques (NSW), Jon Holland (Vic), Phillip Hughes (NSW), Michael Klinger (SA), Clint McKay (Vic), Tim Paine (Tas), Ashton May (ACT, 12th man).

Copper might consider himself unlucky as hes been in great form.

I like the names, but Manuka has been a bit of a turning track this season, hasn't it? There was definitely room for a spin-bowling batsman, like Marcus North or Steve Smith. Could be a career maker for young Behrendorff, part of the generation of pacemen that includes James Pattinson, Josh Hazlewood and Alastair McDermott.

Daniel Vettori (Captain), Trent Boult, Neil Broom, Brendon Diamanti, Grant Elliott, Peter Fulton, Martin Guptill, Brendon McCullum, Kyle Mills, Iain O’Brien, Jeetan Patel, Jesse Ryder, Tim Southee, Ross Taylor.

Weird side to say the least. No Oram sucks. I like Boult being in the side. Another young guy. He's faster then Southee and a left armer so I can;t wait to see him in action.

Diamanti is utter crap. I hope he doesn't get to play. Why did they try Thompson in the Twenty/20 against the West Indies and then call up his teammate to debut against Australia? Absurd. We have Elliot and he's done nothing wrong. Diamanti got smashed yesterday 10 overs 0-72 whilst Thompson who at least has played a Twenty/20 for us and did a good job got 3-45 off 10 in a 311 total vs Otago (With McCullum at the top of the order to bowl to). Not only that, he smacked 40 off 38 down the order whereas Diamanti got a 2 ball duck. If Diamanti gets a game i'm not watching the game. I swear, they must have made a mistake and selected the wrong player. The selectors can't seriously be that stupid can they? Thompson's record is FAR superior.

O'Brien deserves another go. But Chris Martin is being ignored again :/

and FINALLY FULTON is back. I hope he gets some runs in Australia. I want to see him succeed. Good to see Flynn axed.

My eleven for the PM eleven game: NOT the first ODI.
Ryder
McCullum
Guptill
Taylor
Fulton
Broom
Elliot
Southee
Patel
Boult
O'Brien

Rest Vettori and Mills, they're proven performers. Find the other 2 bowlers to join them. Select the bowlers partially based on performance in this game.

Some good young talent in that NZ team. If they do fire they will give Aus a good run for their money. Batting looks their stronger side but if you add an Oram that bowling doesn't look too bad.

Seems like Symonds will return as a specialist batsmen in his FC match and then in this ODI series. That would mean Dave Hussey and Clarke will have to share the duties again but we certainly could use Symonds batting atm.

Diamanti has done very well this season sure he had a terrible game yesterday but for the season so far I think a call up was fair enough. I was thinking about making a post suggesting him until that game yesterday as well. With the players in the squad I wouldn't have him in my starting 11 either.

Ryder
McCullum
Guptill
Taylor
Fulton
Broom
Elliot
Vettori
Mills
Southee
O'Brien/Patel

Is who I would probably start with, glad to see Fulton back. Disappointed not to see Franklin there his batting has come along way.

Since when is 8 wickets at 49.5 doing very well? He's had a hopeless season.

Heck i'd be willing to give him a chance. But not against the unforgiving Australians. And not when he's obviously in horrible form.

Plus they claim he's in as an all-rounder. His batting isn't good enough to warrent that. He's a bowler who can bat a bit, much like Kyle Mills and Tim Southee. We all-ready have a bunch of all-rounders in the side. Elliot, Vettori, McCullum and Ryder. Ryder's bowled well to date. Nothing wrong him using him a bit more. And so long as Elliot doesn't have to bowl cold in a powerplay he's been good too.

Lol now that you've said that he'll probably go and do real well :P

He is also averaging 43 with the bat at almost a run a ball. Just been listening to the radio and it sounds as if he might be starting. "Replacement for Jacob Oram"

Ah well lets hope its not Paul Hitchcock all over again.

3 not outs inflate that quite a lot. But fair enough. He's batting ok. He's a bits and pieces player. I don't like those.

I'm suprised they bought in Diamanti, he is the very definition of an average New Zealand domestic player, a guy who bowls some military medium pacers and is a real average batsman. Unfortunately that isn't good enough for International cricket, therefore I can't see how he's ahead of Ewen Thompson though, especially after Thompson has scored more runs and looks better with the ball than him.s

It's nice though to see Boult in the side, hopefully he can break into the XI and put a few decent performances during this series, I think he's going to be a real special bowler for us.

Good to see Trent Boult in the team, I've seen him quite alot this season and he has really pleased me with his development.

I don't like Brendan Diamanti either, he bats as well as Mills. And his bowling is average.

1st ODI

1.Ryder
2.McCullum
3.Guptill
4.Taylor
5.Peter Fulton
6.Neil Broom
7.Grant Elliot
8.Daniel Vettori
9.Kyle Mills
10.Tim Southee
11.Trent Boult

12.Iain O'Brien(Unlucky to miss out, but would like to see Boult play.)

And what did I say about 3-4 months ago, Trent Boult will play for NZ before India gets here.
