New Zealand in Australia Nov-Dec 2008 Feb 2009

I saw a headline in the Daily Telegraph this morning saying "Even this useless mob think they can beat us" with a picture of the New Zealand cricket team below

:D

Not a good start to the tour for us, McCullum & Ryder are both injured. Ryder is out of the warm up game after aggrivating a shoulder injury, and McCullum has has injured his hip, but should play tomorrow.

Looks like they will bring Hopkins over... to be a backup for McCullum.

...Great, the single worst batsman out of any of the international wicketkeepers playing today is probably gonna get back in the side.

I think Ryder is a tad bit overrated, but that's coming from someone who watches very little domestic cricket. I don't think he's opening material, more like a number 6 who could give them a quickfire 35, 50 at best. Guptill is an absolute gun, I saw his debut game and he is very very good. I'm also a huge fan of Ross Taylor and think he can play to his full potential at number 3.

Perhaps overhyped. Certainly very talented but they do tend to go overboard with the bloke. Possibly the pressure pushes his bad behaviour. Not sure. To me he makes a solid number 5. Versatility.

McCullum's still batting. I'd say he'll keep wicket. There's a 5 day break after the first ODI so hopeflly any injuries will at least only be for the 1.

Hopkin's has had a good domestic season. He's not THAT bad. He's barely played.

That's a nice idea. It'll be a really good experience for the young guy.

It wouldn't be an away tour without a long list of NZ injuries. :( From what it seems, Ryder is the only one who probably won't play the first ODI.

Going by the scorecard, McCullum is down to keep but of course that could very well be wrong. NZ off to an ok start. McCullum's playing it safe which is good to see. With less experience, I want to see McCullum play more sensibly. Still play his shots, but none of the walking down the wicket all the time and stuff.

McCullum playing is the good sign, and looks pretty good so far.
McKay with our only wicket, good performance by the local boy looks like he has good control to not be whacked out by McCullum.

Hundred for McCullum :) 50 for Fulton and some runs to Taylor. Elliot's going ok too giving McCullum strike.

271. Not bad. Can't wait to see how Boult does.

Looks like it cost nothing :) McKay gets his 3rd wicket, he certainly could be a future Aussie ODI player seeing how little depth we have in the OD bowling department. NZ is getting revenge on Henriques for destroying them in a tour match last year, really good mature knock from McCullum hes certainly going to be a handful for our bowlers.

So 272 for the PM 11 to win, the batting is their strong point pretty solid with some big hitters in between the more steady guys.

Very happy he got his 100 he gets a lot of 50's but doesn't seem to go on and make a big one. Just the start he needs going into a big series.

Hopefully he continues on with his form through the tour, as he doesn't usually perform away from home.

I'm surprised though that Cumming is back with the side, Though I think Cumming is a better player now than before; I would of thought Watling's form warranted a call up.

Nice start for the Black Caps, new bowler Boult has the in form Klinger. Good chance for Ferguson to show what he has got and Hughes.

Dropped on about 80, it's not like McCullum greatly changed his game to get a hundred, just played with a bit more luck.

Disappointing that Behrendorff only bowled 8 overs for 22. I can only assume he pulled up sore or cramped in the heat. Henriques was far too expensive throughout the innings and Christian wasn't far behind, but only due to two poor overs at the death. Having to resort to Bailey was also unhelpful. I said when they picked the side, it lacked a slow bowling batsman.

You would think it would be cramp, can't see why Langer would have no faith in him even though hes never seen him before.

Carter is keeping for NZ, both promising knocks from Hughes and Ferguson have come to an end just when they were smacking the 4s.
