New Zealand in India: McCullum may open the batting for NZ | Cricket News | India v New Zealand | Cricinfo.com

McCullum might open in the vein of Sehwag or Gayle. I'd guess it'd be Watling who would make way for him in that case, with Guptill or Williamson at 3.

He'd probably be better opening because it means instead of losing two quick wickets we only lose one...

Yea, I'm quite happy with McCullum opening. Although he won't be anywhere near as consistant as Sehwag or even Dilshan who was promoted up the order to open for SL. If McCullum gets going, it could really work out well for NZ.

He could also work if he was at 3. The you'd have quite an aggressive middle order with McCullum, Taylor and Ryder.

The problem with an aggressive middle order is that it can be quite brittle at times. They'll all go and play some shots and get out in quick succession in one game, where in another they'll bring the run rate about 4 an over. If you have someone at 3 who's not crash bang wallop then it gives more stability to the order.

McCullum played at 3 when NZ last toured England. Scored 96 at a run a ball at Lord's before he got out to Panesar. So it can work but it'll be few and far between. Taylor has shown he can play a nice steady innings. But more often than not he gets a rush of blood to the head and goes for a slog sweep and gets out. Maybe NZ should ask to borrow Tendulkar or Sehwag....

Nah we just need Mark Richardson to come out of retirement :p

He'll bat through the innings in every single match and be steady at his end... the problem being he'll only have scored 50 off 200 balls :p

Batted 3 at lords in 04 too, played a really solid knock then. Seems suited to a higher position to me.

Doesn't matter. It will be empty so you can sit anywhere in ground if all stands are connected. Otherwise, try to take behind bowlers.
lol yeah
so expecting some low price ticket. As the match is coinciding with Diwali and seeing the form of NZ, there would be highly someone to watch the match. And so I am hoping to meet some of the cricketers and get their autograph or even may be a photograph with them:D

How many centuries can we predict at Ahmedabad? Maybe some double/triple ones too. I have no hope on the pitch being a sportive one.

Much optimistic eh? Considering India recently whitewashed Australia, I don't think they can whitewash NZ. I wouldn't be surprised even if NZ win some games. It's just a fact that they play bad after playing good cricket with top teams :p

Oh dear. Martin and Patel are going to be expensive. I imagine Sehwag will be very excited indeed.

I can see Bennett going for quite a few runs as well, especially on debut. And Watling shouldn't play at 3, seeing as he is by nature an opener.

Looks like India have followed the strategy to rest the 2 players which were heroes in previous matches in 2nd innings. 1st Laxman and Ishant and now Pujara and Vijay :p

India won the toss and bats first, finally :D

Watling isnt seriously going to bat three is he?? Didnt we learn from Bangladesh - and yes I realise its a test but doesn't he open in all forms.

Until we bat it will be pretty boring India should be about 350-2 at the end of today.
