New Zealand Tour of India, November 2010/11

Wow India's death bowling is woeful.

That, or Mills and McCullum are bowling really well.

I was always confident as long as McCullum and Mills were there, but not to be. Poor effort by the batsmen there, looks like we haven't learned from Bangladesh.

Sreesanth does it for us:D
Thanks a lot to his useful 2 wickets in the end. This match was really going out fo our hands, but in the end "WE DID IT!"

Proof enough that Ashwin needs to be given a good rope in our limited overs side ahead of Ravindra Jadeja. Hope the selectors and Dhoni inculcate some sense and play Ashwin for Jadeja from now on. Ashwin can bat at times, and his bowling more than outdoes the overall value that you get from Jadeja. Wish to see Ashwin as a permanent part of our ODI and T20 side sometime soon.

Good innings from Kohli. Boy, he is rapidly cementing his place very hard in the ODI side. Considering that the WC is in the subcontinent next year, I see Kohli as a permanent part of the side (he could be in a higher pecking order than Yuvraj come the WC).

Yuvraj Singh...Munaf Patel....Yusuf Pathan...

What the hell. These guys, maybe barring Yuvraj, should not be anywhere NEAR the team!!! How are they still on the selector's radar??

And someone please tell me that Saha kept pathetically!

Saha did not keep pathetically. He was good and was always looking good

Saha looks like a 15 year old, what happened to Dinesh Karthik?

They are probably giving Yusuf the last chance to prove his mettle ahead of the World Cup. He always will be crap though, regardless of how much he piles in the domestic circuit by smashing no name bowlers (one of the reasons behind his recent selection), with a perennial problem of not being able to play short balls at all.

With Yusuf biting the dust, we are left with Jadeja as the sole contender for the spot of a sound bowling allrounder in the XI. He may be a far cry from the quality we are desiring, but there's very little time to seek an ideal replacement.

Ashwin, despite showing promise, needs more good matches to cement his position and unfortunately, this is the last series we'd play in the sub-continent before the WC.

Yeah, Saha can be the backup keeper we are looking for if he's given enough time and chances to showcase his talents with both the bat and the gloves. The selection was long overdue tbh.

I think Ashwin should be persisted with in the ODI setup and should give a tough fight to Jadeja. Time has come for us to look for a player who is atleast good in one department and passable in the other. Jadeja is neither, cant bat and doesnt bowl well too.

Um...Jadeja is our best prospect for an allrounder. Form is temporary, class is permanent. He's the most talented allrounder in India at the moment.

He probably shouldn't be picked yet though. Needs more time to get to his best.

Agreed, he does look like a 15-year old. But I think the selectors ran out of patience with Dinesh Karthik. He just failed too many times, I think. He's been the perennial backup for the last couple of years or so, and gotten his share of chances (as a pure batsman sometimes, when both he and Dhoni have played), and played not one memorable innings. Tbh, I think it's high time to try out new blood.

I like you Z, and I generally agree with your opinions, but with due respect, Ravindra Jadeja is ████. If he's our best all-rounder, then we should accept the fact that we don't have an international class allrounder and pick the extra batsman. As far as WC is concerned, we can get away with Raina/Yuvraj/Sehwag delivering 10 overs of part-time spin in subcontinental tracks.

Yuvraj showed the other day that he's certainly capable to bowl as the fifth bowler, and if you chuck in overs from Sehwag and Raina, you shouldn't need Jadeja. It's kinda like how we use Styris, Elliott and Williamson as our fifth bowler.

Styris is a genuine AR in the sub-continent on slow pitches, if we get Oram/Vettori fit, then play three bowlers, Elliot's and Williamson's overs if they play are a real bonus, as we'll already have three bowlers, plus three AR's. Therefore we'd have Oram at seven, then Vettori at eight, as well as six batsmen above that, which should be more than capable.
