New Zealand Tour of India, November 2010/11

We do not want a change of temperament from Pathan!!

He is a bang bang player just like Pollard.

Saha should be given more opportunities
Temperament to win a match for India. If Yusuf doesnt come through this series, I would be very happy to see Virat Kohli take up that 7th spot in India's WC XI and provide few of his gentle medium pace overs.

Awww.. I am loving Kohli's batting... what a form he is in!!:D Not long before his name comes up for Test squad selection.

That was a big win!! This shows the strength of our bench!!

I am now not scared even if likes Dhoni,Tendulkar,Sehwag rest after 3-4 series.

We can still beat the Newzealand team 5-0.

7 losses in a row for Newzealand now!!

7th Spot ? He is a surety for the Cup. And even if there was a decision point around Kohli, it would have meant a competition between him and Rohit Sharma who is definitely out of reckoning for the Cup now.

unfortunately kohli misses out when the big guns come in.

my ideal line-up would be :

sachin
sehwag
gambhir
yuvraj
raina
dhoni
all-rounder*
bhajji
zaheer
sreesanth
nehra

* Yuseless, Irfan, Jadeja etc

I meant Kohli taking that 7th position that Yusuf, Jadeja and Tiwari are in contention for in the playing XI. Same role that Kaif took back 2002/03 when Dravid was keeping. Kohli seems he can do the finisher job too and alongside bowl few medium pace overs!!

Sehwag
Tendulkar
Gambhir
Yuvraj
Raina
Dhoni
Kohli
Harbhajan/R Ashwin
P Kumar
Zaheer
Sreesanth

the 7th spot is always best suited for an all-rounder.
and sadly, kohli isnt one.
we already have too many solid batsmen for him to replace anybody...
if at all, it would be have to be between him and raina.

Not really. Kohli, Raina, Viru and Yuvi can share 10 overs between them.

A batting lineup for Gambhir, Viru, Sachin, Raina, Yuvraj, Kohli and MSD is bound to be one of the most dangerous in the WC.
Bhajji, Zak and any two of Sree/Ojha/Praveen/Nehra/Ashwin/Ishant depending on form/conditions/injury should do the job bowling wise.

you are putting too much emphasis on the batting side....
our bowling is pretty weak.

raina, kohli, yuseless etc are all pie chuckers. even UV comes pretty close in that area.

also, playing kohli at no.7 is just a waste of talent and position.

Dominating game from India. Good to see Sreesanth doing well in ODI cricket. We needed that because our fast bowlers have been complete crap in ODI and T20 except for Zaheer and Praveen Kumar to some extent. Super century from Gambhir, and what a form is Kohli in!!! I would place him over Yuvraj Singh in the World Cup XI. Only thing is, Yuvraj bowls much better than Kohli which gives Yuvi an advantage. I believe India can play 7 batsmen with Kohli as the 7th and have Sehwag/Yuvraj/Raina handle the 5th bowler duties.

Sachin
Sehwag
Gambhir
Kohli
Yuvraj
Raina
Dhoni
Harbhajan
ZAK
PK
Nehra

I might keep Sreesanth in the fold. His two games in this series has been above expectations. Plus he is a better fielder than Nehra.

I don't know about that. His E/R is pretty high.
These are the bowling figures for the past two years at home.

ZAK: 5 matches 7 wickets at 40 ER: 6.22
Nehra: 16 matches 19 wickets at 44 ER: 6.28
PK: 11 matches 8 wickets at 61.5 ER: 5.97
Sree: 5 matches 11 wickets at 23.58 ER: 7.19
Munaf: 4 matches 2 wickets at 79.50 ER: 5.48

Wow, we got owned.
We were a good 20 runs short with the bat, and bar Vettori and McCullum our pace/medium pace bowlers got taken to.

In the partnership like the Guptill - Williamson one, inside the powerplay one of them has to actually play their shots, it's alright Guptill anchoring the innings (or Williamson), but for the second match in a row Williamson's been in a terrible ODI partnership. He just doesn't seem to be able to rotate the strike with the field up inside the ring, especially through the off-side, and he got out in the same way in the test series, so that bowled is probably something technical.
I didn't see after that so I can't really comment as it'll just be off the scorecard.

If Brendon's not back next match, I'd look to put either Nathan, Mills or Southee up to open with Guptill, drop How to three, and then drop Williamson down to five where he should be. What they're doing ATM just isn't working, and they have to mix it up someway or another.

They just seem to be a side at the very bottom in terms of confidence, as that's the 13th match in a row that we've not managed to win. (2 have been N/Rs, and 2 have been draws)

I remember last time pre-world cup we demolished Aussie in the Chapple-Hadlee, it didn't work going in on a high, so hopefully this world cup it might work going in with no form whatsoever.

Two words: Mike Hussey

You know he hasn't batted at seven since 2006.

On Sreesanth, he's got the 2nd worst E/R ever for a bowler who's taken over 50 ODI wickets, he's very average, but he's been made to look alright by a very average NZ batting line-up. He's only actually taken one top five wicket this series, and his E/R has been well over five.

Please don't select Sreesanth for the World Cup. He will be taken to the cleaners. I can guarantee it.
