New Zealand tour of Sri Lanka, 2009

well surely sri lankas will be tuff to handle but yet u cant write off NZ.. no international teams are pushovers in any conditions, if so they cant be in this level can they?? but yes 3M murali, mendis, malinga in a test match will be some task for any batting lineup for sure... lets see how well pakistan handles 3m's in test first shell we!!!!

My test team:

1. Redmond
2. Guptill
3. Flynn
4. Taylor
5. Ryder
6. Franklin
7. McCullum
8. Vettori
9. Patel
10. O'Brien
11. Martin

I would prefer Butler in there, but I doubt he'll make the squad.

I think thats what they will go with but with McIntosh instead of Redmond. Oram might play instead of Franklin which will result in a rant by me.

1.McIntosh
2.Guptill
3.Flynn
4.Taylor
5.Ryder
6.Oram/McCullum
7.Oram/McCullum
8.Franklin
9.Vettori
10.Patel
11.O'Brien

That's what I could see our team being lined up as, I don't know if we could fit both Oram and Franklin in the team though. Oram should get the boot, but we all know he wont. McCullum has to bat at six though, Franklin shouldn't bat any higher then him.

Bowling looks worry for Kiwis. Franklin is hardly playing as bowler these days.

My Test side.

1. McIntosh
2. Guptill
3. Flynn
4. Taylor
5. Ryder
6. Broom
7. McCullum
8. Vettori
9. Nethula
10. O'Brien
11. Martin

Franklin & Oram aren't good enough with the bat to take the no.6 spot in tests at the moment, so i'd give Broom a shot at his favoured form of the game. I will stand by my Nethula pick because to me, Jeetan Patel is just an over-rated pie-chucker IMO.

With Ryder also bowling a bit more than the occasional over. He's a much better bowler than a lot of people give him credit for in my opinion.

Test squad Tim McIntosh, Martin Guptill, Craig Cumming, Jesse Ryder, Ross Taylor, Daniel Flynn, Brendon McCullum, Jacob Oram, Grant Elliott, Daniel Vettori (capt), Reece Young, Daryl Tuffey, Jeetan Patel, Iain O'Brien, Chris Martin.

Limited-overs squad Brendon McCullum, Jesse Ryder, Martin Guptill, Ross Taylor, Jacob Oram, Neil Broom, Grant Elliott, Nathan McCullum, Gareth Hopkins (ODIs only), Peter McGlashan (Twenty20s only), Ian Butler, Daniel Vettori (capt), Shane Bond, Kyle Mills, Jeetan Patel.

Some serious fail in the test squad.

This Test squad is a disgrace.

The team we'll probably play:

1. McIntosh
2. Guptill
3. Flynn
4. Taylor
5. Ryder
6. Oram
7. McCullum
8. Vettori
9. Patel
10. O'Brien
11. Martin

I really hope we just stick with that team all series, Cumming and Young are old duds. Tuffey needs to come back through the ODI's like Bond IMO, just to prove he's still got it.

My team would be:

1: McIntosh
2: Guptill
3: Flynn
4: Taylor
5: Ryder
6: Oram
7: McCullum
8: Vettori
9: Patel
10: Tuffey
11: O'Brien

First off why is Oram in the squad he has been so badly out of form and not playing any sort of real cricket to get back into form. Secondly Elliot? what the hell, he has done nothing even close to be considered to be in the test side how he is in the side infront of Franklin who is by far a better batsman and bowler is anyones guess. I would be tempted to play Cummings over McIntosh but they have said hes only in as cover. I am happy with Tuffey being there.

The one day side I am fairly happy with good to see Nathan McCullum included in both formats there.

Reece Young, why? The guy is 29 years old and averages 26 with the bat in his first-class cricket. He did fairly well this season averaging 49 but those stats are bumped up so much because he plays so much cricket on the Eden Park pitch, which is a road.

Jacob Oram? His bowling has looked poor for the last 6 months, and his batting has been even worse. How he made the team over Franklin I have no idea.

I don't mind Elliott having a place in the test squad, he has done very well since his last test match innings. Plus he plays spin bowling pretty well. I don't rate Craig Cumming at all but he can cover quite a few posistions so I see why they picked him.

I'm happy to see Tuffey in the test team, he was the best bowler in the state championship last season so he deserves this recall.

What is this 2 test nonsense. Should be interesting series though, especially seeing how bowler friendly the pitch has been in the Pak SL test. Too bad their not playing at Galle though

On a whole i'm happy with the squads. I don't see the logic in having Hopkins for the ODIs and McGlashan for the T20's. I'd just pick one of the two, probably Hopkins.

Young in the tests I think is a fair move, I haven't seen much of him but he's worth a shot.

I'd make N McCullum a fixture in our ODI side for the series. I'd even be tempted to play Patel and of course Vettori too. 3 spinners would be cool.
