New zealand's Tour Of India (Nov 17-Dec 07, 2021)

If just one bad season makes Rahul a terrible player then I don't know what can make him better. Before he was played as a middle order batsman in ODIs for India, this guy was tearing apart the bowling attacks for fun.

KLR is the ideal batsman if we are looking for a T20I opener. I see a lot of Indian fans complaining about KLR but any other country would welcome a batsman like him with open arms.

Shall we drop Pujara & Rahane from Tests?

IMO, Pujara has done alright and it's not even a year since Rahane's efforts in Australia, maybe this series serves as the benchmark for the future?

I am not suggesting to drop them. I am just saying if KLR has done that badly to be dropped then both these player haven't done better either.

I am KL's biggest critic but off late he has proved me wrong which I am fine with. He has to open the innings for us if he is playing. No making him play at 4 and all please. HE is a Rohit Sharma kind of player in ODI and Tests where if he is in, opposition will poopy in pants :p

Isolate his IPL performances and look at the consistency of this fellow. You will find he is in the team on basis of his reputation. I am at pains to identify what his role actually is. Cause if KLR is your designated opener, then the selectors shouldn't be picking any more openers.

If KLR fits into the middle order, let someone like Iyer/Gill open with Sharma.

If KLR is your designated keeper- wtf are Kishan and Pant doing in the team?

To me, it seems as though KLR needs to be in the team at any cost. Truth be told, he isn't that reliable a player. Appointing him as deputy to Rohit is perhaps the worst decision BCCI may ever have taken.

These are the numbers of KLR in T20Is in pre-Covid times

Between Dec 2019 & Jan 2020, KLR scored 5 consecutive scores in excess of 45. He also scored back to back half centuries in Auckland in 2020 followed by a 39 at Wellington and 45 at Bay Oval.

In the New Zealand series in 2020, KLR scored 224 runs @56 striking at 144.52.

After that he was for no reason moved down the order in ODIs along with his Captain expressing his views of trying him in the middle order in T20Is. To be precise, he was made feel insecure regarding his spot.

This was followed by Covid-19, lockdowns, bio-bubbles, bio-bubble breaches, etc etc. These situations can affect any individual to a severe extent, forget about being a sports player.

His IPL performance just give a hint of the player he has been, infact he has looked better playing for India. I don't know what reputation you are talking about. He is in the team solely on merit of his performance.

Players tend to have lean patches, and the current situation in the world could make things even more difficult. In my view, he should be backed to play as an opener for India.

What is Bhuvi still doing in this team is beyond me. Absolutely has no space in my XI. HE is out of form and sorts. I have nothing against him but we need to look past picking players based on reputation.

I really thought they would prepare Avesh for T20WC 22 , bowling with Bumrah . Deepak Chahar ain't that good . Siraj is okayish ....

2/24 in 4 overs in previous game, 4/22 against Sri Lanka before WT20. Consistently bowled around 134 kph in the previous game. He is getting into some good touch.

Yes but he is too inconsistent. He was a reliable bowler before but post injury has not looked like that. I definitely would have taken a loss here or even won by showing some trust in Avesh Khan and letting him groomed.

Restricting them to 150's is a huge win itself. Harshal Patel just continued from where he left in IPL. Axar and Ashwin have been so good as well. They will be kicking themselves after the start they had.

Hmm...what's the point of this series anyway? We just had a T20 WC end a week back. Might as well have kept it to Tests only.

Pains me to watch India win meaningless limited overs bilaterals and come a cropper in world events.
