Hopes and Hogg were looking in great form....Hogg was playing like a great middle order batsmen...he played some great shots against Oram...he scored some 19 runs in one over of Oram...while Hopes was playing sensible cricket...he was taking the singles as well as hitting some four of some bad balls bowled by Vettori...It was being difficult and difficult to break the partnership...Hogg reached his 50 ....an most important 50 at such scenario....the local boy was cheered by the fans...This partnership between Hopes and Hogg was the most invaluble one...
But soon Oram got rid of Hogg...Hogg was caught at point by Vincent while cutting...a great innings came to an end...Hogg got a standing avation as he departed...Oram broke the 93 run partnership...Lee was the new man in...he got of the mark with a leg glance for four...But the Aussie tail shattered as Lee was caught playing the same shot as Hogg and it was Vincent who took the catch but the wicket was taken by Gillespie...Franklin diidnt saty longer as he was caught at square leg by How on the bowling of Franklin....Aussies were 271/9 as Tait walked in...
Hopes had to play well to guide Australia to a score more than 300...and he did it...Hopes played some great looking ondrives to Styris and also Bond...he was supported well by Tait as he rotated the strike very well and kept Hopes on strike..Hopes reached his 50 with a delightful four through covers....Hopes was able to score 18 runs in the last two overs....taking Australia to a decent or rather good 310 at the end of 50 overs....
Good team performance by the Australians. Of course it didn't help that Oram was very expensive. It will be a big task for New Zealand but we've seen them chase large totals before. Looking forward to the next update .
at the moment NZ are in a bit of trouble....they are some 120/3 at the end of 17 overs...lost Vincent , Papps and How....Styris is just in...Tait , Lee and Johnson bowling well....run rate is good but have lost many wickets
It will be tough task for NZ. Great knock by Hopes and Hogg. Australia are in the drivers seat at the moment. Fantastic presentation and graphics. KUTGW
New Zealand Losing wickets at Regular Intervals......
Vincent and Papps opened the batting for New Zealand...They needed 311 to win the Commonwealth Chappell Hadlee Series....311 on the WACA pitch was never going to be easy against the pace attack of the Aussies.....As usual Lee and Tait shared the new ball for the Aussies....Papps started the innings for the Kiwis...he hit some great on and off drives on the bowling of Lee and Tait...But Lee was able to get the better of Vincent...Vincnet edged a bouncer to Gilchrist...Kiwis lost their first wicket for 24....
Lee celebrates the early breakthrough
Ross Taylor was promoted up the order....he played his aggressive game as he went after Tait....he and Papps played some glorious eye catching shots....But lee was the most effective and the unluckiest bowler...He was able to beat the out side age of Taylor for 4 times in a over....But Lee too was expensive when went for 15 runs in a overs by Papps...He that over he played some glorious cover drives and straight drives....There was a battle going on between Lee and Papps...But at the end Lee got better of him...Papps was judged LBW by umpire Doctrove (sorry if the spelling is wrong)...Papps didn't attempt a shot but ball hit above his knee roll and was going to go over the stumps due to the bounce of the WACA bounce...but Doctrove thought otherwise....Papps had to go for 36....Kiwis were 49/2
Papps depart by scoring a quickfire 36
Jamie How came in to replace Michael Papps....Johnson was introduced into the attack....He was able to trouble How a bit in his first over...But Taylor took the initiative as he played some very sensible cricket...He played some good looking shots for 4 of the bowling of Tait who was turning out be very expensive....On the other end How was rotating strike...As How got settled he hit Johnson for 2 consecutive fours on the on drive....Lee was brought back after a change of ends,,,While Johnson continued from the other end....Taylor and How played innings surviving partnership of 49 runs and then Johnson got the better of How...How played a lofted cover drive which was caught easily by Lee at covers....Jamie How's innings came to an end at 27 and Kiwis lost their 3 wicket at 98....
Johnson celebrates the wicket of Taylor
Styris came in...NZ needed a big innings from him if they wanted to defend the trophy...He played some good looking shot for just one run.....but soon Taylor fell to Tait....Taylor tried to play a leg glance but was caught at square leg by Hussey....This was a big breakthrough for Aussies..As the danger man Taylor walked away for well played 34....He was replaced by more dangerous Jacob Oram....Kiwis now needed a big partnership from Oram and Styris ....Styris looked good as he played some really good shots on the bowling of Tait and Johnson as Lee had finished his spell ...Oram too looked in some great form....he played a great off drive for four......
Punter cheering his lads....
Styris and Oram have made a partnership between them of 32 runs ....As NZ are 146/4 at the end of 24 overs....
New Zealand need more 165 runs form 26 overs at 6.34 rpo....
