Fulton and Oram came out after having a cup of tea . Lee was as usual to start the proceeding . Lee was again looking with a lot of energy . His two balls went for 2 four byes . It was the worst possible start for the Aussies after Tea . Gilchrist looked very uncomfortable handling Lee's bouncer . Gilchrist was having a bat day behind the stumps . While Fulton had settled well . He was playing his shot whenever there was loose ball . Oram was still struggling to read Cameron White well . But he decided to go after White . Oram played a beautiful uppish cut for 4 . That raised some confidence of Oram . As Lee was struggling to get his line and length properly finally Ponting gave the ball to Mitchell Johnson . Mitchell Johnson was smashed for 4 the first of his second spell by Oram . A beautiful on drive racing towards the fence no need to run . Fulton was now facing difficulties to play Johnson . So they both decided to keep strike for a over . Fulton was to play White and Oram to play Johnson . But this partnership didn't last long as Johnson had broken the 94 runs partnership . Oram trying to play a cover drive but was unable to keep it down and as a result was caught by Clarke at covers . Partnership was finally broken . Oram departed for just 35 runs .

Brendon McCullum the keeper batsmen came in . McCullum was clever enough to rotate the strike and give Fulton the settled batsmen the strike . Ponting gave Johnson just 4 overs in his second spell . Lee was again brought into the attack . He was still struggling with his bouncers which resulted into another 4 wides with some poor keeping by Gilly . The tally of 4 wides had now raised to 5 ie 25 a total of runs gifted by Johnson , Lee and Clark to the Kiwis . This rubbish keeping and bowling by the Aussies . Gilchrist was surely having his worst day . McCullum and Fulton kept on rotating the strike . The running between the wicket was brilliant . But soon another partnership in the making was broken . This time it was the debutant Cameron White who got his first test victim . McCullum trying to pull a short pitched ball but result was that he was clean bowled . McCulllum made way for his skipper . McCullum departed for 15 . Just one hour of play left and Fulton was not out on 84 . Vettori came in . From the first ball he was looking about going after the bowlers . He played a good looking but risky uppish cut to White for 4 .

Clark was given the ball . Fulton was playing some very careful cricket . While Vettori was playing aggressive shots . Vettori played a cover drive for 4 of the bowling of Clark . Vettori was looking as if he was playing T20 cricket . He wanted some quick runs at the moment . Fulton played a cover drive for 4 of Clark . And quick runs were coming . Another great looking shot on the on side for 4 by Fulton of White . Vettori to played a slog sweep for six . They both were playing real sensible cricket along with slog cricket . They were rotating the strike whenever a boundary was scored especially Vettori . Fulton was stuck on 92 and was unable to find runs . Again a partnership was broken when it was n the breaking . White got his second wicket . Vettori trying to loft the ball over mid on but was well caught at mid on by Clark . He quick inning of 27 runs of 20 balls came to an end .

Entertaining innings comes to an end

It was the worst time of the day to lose a wicket when only 15 mins are left . Aussies took the new ball . Lee was given the new ball with Clark on the other end . Lee was yet struggling to keep his bouncers down . Which resulted in another 10 runs extra to the Kiwis . It was a poor day for Gilchrist as the extras tally was 48 runs(w 8 ,nb 8 , b 30 , lb 2) . Ponting was unable to do anything . He was just able keep his bowlers calm . Franklin at the start struggled to read Lee but soon was able to rotate the strike with Fulton . Fulton reached 98 . Now the field was brought in from stopping him getting the singles . But yest Fulton was able to get a single to fine leg . Fulton was 99 not out . Franklin was playing some good shots now but for no runs . Aussies were doing well to keep Fulton of strike but Franklin got a quick single at mid on . Fulton 99 not out and Lee bowling . Fulton smashed him for a cover drive which resulted in 2 runs . Fulton was excited has he jumped in the air and celebrated his well deserved 100 , The Melbourne crowd stood up and appreciated him . As they were able to witness one of the best innings . Fulton was finally able to end day 1 on 102 not out with the Kiwis total one day one at 358/7 . Fulton led the players out of the playing field to the pavilion .

Thats terrific batting by NewZealand. Fulton scored a well deserved century :clap. NZ can score 400 if Fulton bats well tomorrow. Australia will have to work hard to score their runs.

Awesome update and top notch presentation :clap :hpraise

awesome update awesome graphics
great work really really love it very good

good to see NZ on top and lets hope they continue their domination

Sorry to point this out

He would have had White in his mind and should have made a typo there ;) Well, Kiwis are looking alright.. Fulton should be a crucial one..

Amazing works with the presentation. :clap

Very good update mate. Fulton has had a really good knock there. Hopefully NZ can get past 400.

This story has been very good so far and your writing skills have also improved greatly from when you began. Keep it up :)

Superb batting by Fulton under pressure! Gilchrist did really have a very bad day out there.

Great presentation too.

Great batting from Fulton. Now, the tail must wagg for a while. ;)

Great update and great story Shantanu! :)

Phillips The Preview...

Tony Grieg : Welcome everyone to Phillips the Review . What a day of cricket we had . We saw some real good batting by the Kiwis and also great running between the wickets by the Kiwis . To discuss more about the day I have 2 great people alongside me Ian Chappell and Geoffrey Boycott . First Geoffrey , privilege to see some great batting display by the Kiwis and especially Peter Fulton , he looked in great form .

Geoffrey Boycott : Absolutely right Tony , we were really prviledge to see such a good batting display by the Kiwis . First it started with Fleming and Taylor . They both batted really well to see of the new ball . Their partnership made the platform for the rest of the btsmen to come . Thats why the opening pair should always be good as it releases the pressure from the batsmen to follow . Then we had some great batting display by Fulton and Oram . They both played well and the partnership between them was much needed for the team as the Kiwis had lost some 3 quick wickets at that moment . Oram had some trouble facing Cameron White but afterwards after he got settled he played well . While Fulton was outstanding today . He scored runs everywhere , He was also watchful as he played Brett Lee . He played some great cover drives for four . And the running between the wickets was the highlight of the inning or the day today .

Peter Fulton Wagon Wheel

Tony Grieg : Ok we have the man himself with us , Welcome Peter Fulton , congrats on reaching your test century .

Peter Fulton : Thanks Tony

Ian Chappell : Peter congrats Ian here , Invaluable innings for the team and as well for you ?

Peter Fulton : Thanks Ian , yeah invaluable innings for the team as we had lost a quick wickets at the moment I came in to bat and for me yeah this would raise my confidence after the injury i had .

Geoffrey Boycott : Congrats Peter , Geoff here . How was the pitch today was it good for batting .?

Peter Fulton : Thanks , when i saw the pitch before the start of the match I thought it would be quick and bouncy but no when I went to bat the ball was coming nicely onto the bat and the bounce was good . It is a complete batting paradise and yeah also the spinners will come into play probably by tomorrow as Cameron was getting some spin today .

Ian Chappell : Any total decided by the team ?

Peter Fulton : No , we will bat as long as possible , we have got a good start and I hope we can get around 450 to 500 runs would be good .

Tony Grieg : Ok , Thanks Peter nice talking with you , hope you convert this into a larger score .
That was Peter Fulton with us .

Tony Grieg : Ian you would be completely disappointed the way Aussies have bowled today ? Though they got 7 wickets but it was not the same fierce bowling attack of Aussies .

Ian Chappell : Yeah Tony a bit disappointed the way Ponting used his bowlers . The biggest mistake he made was giving Stuart Clark the new ball . Then he really under bowled Mitchell Johnson . Only 6 overs out of the 90 for your one of the main strike bowlers . While Brett Lee was good . Again though he went for lots of 4 wides . Adam Gilchrist was having a very poor day behind the stumps . Keeper of his caliber isn't expected to make such mistakes . While I was really impressed the way Cameron White has bowled on his debut . He knew he was the target for Kiwi batsmen but still he never paniced he bowled a good line and length and as Peter said he was getting some spin . He was more effective in his last 5 overs . He was able to get some more spin and bounce form the pitch . And thats when he got the 2 important wickets of McCullum and Vettori . If you see his pitch map the balls on which he got wickets were pitched almost in the same line . He alike Lee was just bowling outside or on off stump . Way outside off stump he went for runs . But at the end of day 7 wickets is not bad . tomorrow I think they should be able to get the Kiwis all out in the first session .

Tony Grieg : Thank You Ian and Geoffrey for your expert comment . Thats all for the day . We will meet tomorrow morning for Day 2 of this test match still then have good day .

Thats terrific batting by Fulton. He was very strong on the leg side where he got most of his runs. White bowled well in the end which surprised me and he was good as he picked up 2 crucial wickets for his team.

Awesome presentation and great story :clap

Superb efforts and works on the pitchmap mate.
This story is great!
Looking forward to the next update mate. :)

Actually, it's very rare that we see Ponting give his fav bowler only few, Johnson as Ian pointed out! ;)

Great works with the review show :clap

Phillips The Review...

Tony Grieg : Welcome and Good morning to every one . With me I have as usual Martin Crowe and Ian Chappell . We had a fairly entertaining game yesterday . Peter Fulton scored his century on his comeback and Cameron white impressed many people on his debut . But what do we expect today lets us our experts first Martin . What strategy will New Zealand play with.

Martin Crowe : Yeah , If I were Daniel I would have told Peter and James to see off the 1st hour and than go for runs . A core of more than 450 would be real good score for the Aussies . The way peter batted yesterday was some high class batting . If he can continue it today it would be really good for the team . I think he needs partners . James should just rotate the strike around rather than going for the shots .

Tony Grieg :
Ian , what strategy the Aussies will have today ?

Ian Chappell : Ponting would get 110% out of his bowlers . Brett Lee would be a key factor today . If he is able to get the tail quickly then it would be good . I think they should try and keep Franklin on the strike . Even Cameron White would be a key . If he is given the ball early then he could get some turn and bounce which trouble the batsmen . So at the end try and finish the innings as quickly as you can .

Tony Grieg : Thank You , Ian . Now lets go to Wasim Akram for the pitch report.

Wasim Akram : Thanks Tony

kas9ko.jpg

Tony Grieg : Thanks Wasim . Who would be the player of the day ? Martin please tell who will be the key for New Zealand today?

Martin Crowe : Its gonna be Peter Fulton . If he stay there then a big total can be put forward the Aussies .

Tony Grieg : Ian , For the Aussies today ?

Ian Chappel :Bowling point of view it will be Cameron White . But I feel Aussies are gonna bat today so the key man for the Aussies while batting will be no other than Matthew Hayden .

Tony Grieg : All viewers we have a contest for you . It is Johnnie Walker Trivia Contest
