Phillips Extra Cover

Harsha Bhogle :
Hello and welcome to Phillips Extra Cover . Today its the start of the most awaiting Natwest Twenty 20 between England and New Zealand . Both the teams coming with some confidence into this match . England drew the npower test series against India and even New Zealand had a drawn test Series against the world champions Australia . But today we are gonna be entertain by the shortest format of the game that is T20 cricket . With me to talk more about this match I have in the studio Ravi Shastri and Sunil Gavaskar . Ravi is it going to be a very entertaining game what do you thing ?

Ravi Shastri :
You are right Harsha i cant wait for the start of the natwest Series and i fell this game is gonna be just superb to watch . Both teams are very aggressive in their game play and its going to be completely entertaining to watch the host and kiwis play for the Natwest Twenty 20 cup .

Harsha Bhogle :
Sunny what do you think who are the favorites today ?

Sunil Gavaskar :
I think the host England are the favorite today as this match is at their home ground and they are used to this format of the game as they play regularly in the their county cricket . But even the Kiwis are not underestimated as they can destroy England if they bat and bowl well as they did to the Australian . So I thinks its gonna be very interesting to watch the two sides play .

Harsha Bhogle :
Thanks Sunny . Now lets go down to David Llyod to know more about the weather forecast .

Weather Report

David Llyod :
Thanks Harsha , as you all can see over me its very bright over here at Lords with no signs of a single balck or grey cloud over head . The temperature is a bit hot and the breeze is from North West sirection . So the conditions are just perfect for a complete game of cricket . Back to you in the studio Harsha .

Harsha Bhogle :
Thanks David , indeed perfect conditions for cricket . Now lets go down to Ian Botham for the pitch report .

Pitch Report

Ian Bothom :
Thank you Harsha , well the pitch at Lords is always good for batting first and even so this pitch . There is some amount of grass on it which will favor the bowlers . The pitch well rolled and hard and the bounce will be even . There will be some turn for spinners in the later overs . The outfield is very quick indeed .The pitch will not change that much for the second innings as it is just a 20 over per side game . So win the toss and bat first . Thats all from here back to the studio .

Harsha Bhogle :
Hmmm , a bit of grass on it . So who will win the toss ? Lets see as Nasir Hussain is with the two captains .

Toss

Nasser Hussian :
Welcome to the T20 match between England and New Zealand at the Lords stadium in London . I have the two captains Paul Collingwood and Daniel Vettori with me . Paul Collingwood has the coin and what is your call Daniel ?

Daniel Vettori :
Tails !

Nasser Hussian :
It is heads . Paul what have you decided to do ?

Paul Collingwood : We will bowl first

Nasser Hussian :
Is it a gamble to bowl first on a pitch good for batting ?

Paul Collingwood : No , it has some bid of grass on it and it will help our fast bowlers . And yeah the pitch will not change much in the second innings and so we decided to bowl first .

Nasser Hussain :
Thanks Paul and Good Luck . Now Daniel would have you batted first on this pitch ?

Daniel Vettori :
Yeah , it looks stored for many runs and we would have obviously batted first on winning the toss .

Nasser Hussain :
Any changes in the side . ?

Daniel Vettori :
Sinclair comes in for How and Mills comes in for Gillespie .

Nasser Hussain :
Ok , Thank You Daniel and Good Luck .
Thats all from here back to you in the studio Harsha .

Harsha Bhogle :
Interesting choice by Paul Collingwood . Lets see the two teams .

Harsha Bhogle :
Quick word Ravi and Sunny , Who is the key man for new Zealand and England today and who will win .

Ravi Shastri :
For England it is Kevin Pietersen and for New Zealand no doubt Shane Bond . I think England to win because of home advantage .

Sunil Gavaskar :
For Engalnd it is Kevin Pietersen and for New Zealand it will be Jacob Oram . And I agree with Ravi , England are slightly favorites to win due to home advantage .

Harsha Bhogle :
Stay Tuned because as we return from this short break we will have the live action from Lords .

Lou Vincent alongside Brendon McCullum opened the batting for the kiwis . James Anderson was given the new ball for England and he was upto expectation by giving just two singles of the over . Stuart Braod shared the new ball attack . McCullum smashed him over covers for the first boundary of the match . But Stuart broad came back strongly . Brendon McCullum trying to guide one down to fine leg was surprised by the pace and gave a easy catch to square leg . McCullum departed for just 7 runs of 6 balls . New man in was Matthew Sinclair

Anderson again bowled a great over by giving just 1 of the over . Broad continued . And again Broad stroked this time the danger man Lou Vincent edged one and easily caught by Tim Ambrose . Vincent departed for 1 of 6 balls . Kiwis were 10/2 . Anderson was given a rest after his 3 overs which went for only 9 runs including one four through covers by Ross Taylor . Masceranhas was given the ball . And it was perfect bowling change . Taylor was run outed by a great direct throw by Pietersen . Taylor departed for 5 of 9 balls . Kiwis were 24/3 . Peter Fulton was the new man in and he didn't last that long . He was caught at Square leg . Fulton tried to hit a huge on over square leg but gave a simple catch to square leg . Fulton departed for 3 of 2 balls . Scott Styris was the new man in . he was off the mark the first ball . But the next ball Dimi striked again . Matthew Sinclair clean bowled in his attempt trying to go over extra cover . Matthew Sinclair departed for 1 of 11 balls and New Zealand were in very deep trouble at 27/5 .

Jacob Oram who is known for his big hitting came in when Kiwis had lost their half wickets . Sidebottom was given the ball . he bowled good line to Styris but gave 6 runs of the over including one huge hit over mid on for 4 . Masceranhas was given a rest after his 2 overs 2 for 11 . Collingwood bought him self in the attack . Collingwood gave just 5 runs of the first over including a great cover drive for 4 by Oram . Bopara was given the ball . Sidebottom was removed from the attack maybe changing the side , But Bopara was very expensive in his 1st over . Bopara had Oram out twice but both were no balls . Oram smashed Bopara for 2 sixes over mid on and cover and 1 boundary through square leg . It was and expensive over for England . Oram and Styris rotated the strike well . Oram again smashed Collingwood for 7 runs including a boundary over mid off . New Zealand were rightback in to the match at the end of 13 over Kiwis were 86/5
