You're right, but I think people compare them to other pitches around the world.

Only Australia and England seem to produce fast pitches. RSA occasionally do.

Chris Read and Alex Loudon earlier put on 102 (51 Loudon) after a bit of a collapse, Read is now on 98* and is nearly at his hundred, and I think they've gone to Tea.

Surely the selectors cannot ignore this.

Nope still playing, just a lull on ECB.co.uk.

48 extras, 23 of them byes! Either erattic bowling or dodgy keeping.

And there it is, 104* for Chris Read 141 balls 14 4's and 1 six.

Well done lad.

Yep well played Read. GoJo should be sweating now.

WI too.
Well played CR; this series has to be Jones' last chance...

Most the pitches in the recent test series were quite slow and low, bar the last one.

I think GoJo has had his chance.

He has to be dropped, but he won't be.

Yep, although he does have a knack of producing the performance when he's under the kosh. (sp?)

If he doesn't score a hundred in this series then GoJo will be out, as much as it saddens me to say.

Indeed, yet more runs for Chris Read. Since being asked to improve his batting he has scored runs at County, One Day, Twenty-Twenty, and I would say most importantly England A. Key point for me is that "if" they drop Jones, and that is a mighty big IF, they then need to show as much faith in the next wicket-keeper that they pick as they have in Jones. At the moment I am pretty sure Jones is only still in because the management is a little wary of admitting they are wrong, and I believe he will keep his place in this series because Fletch will feel with the absence of several established players dropping Jones would only add to the inexperience.

Just to point out regarding their extras Sureshot, Kamran Akmal bruised his index finger I think it was and was replaced by Faisal Iqbal (I think). So they have been playing without a specialist wicket-keeper.

Also a question to Evertonfan - Do you not think that the comment "when he's under the kosh he always produces an innings?" Is unfortunately exactly what is wrong with Jones in the England setup? Surely if he deserved his place, he wouldn't have spent most of the last year or two of his career under the cosh? (I think its with a C not a K, as it means some kind of hitting device, hence to be under it? )

I suppose your right there; GoJo should be performing well now. The thing that annoys me though is the fact that whenever he gets in, he gets straight out. He got a few fine 50's in the subcontinent, but after grafting his way in, he just goes soon after. The last innings he played which showed his value in the side, came against Aus at Trent Bridge last year; Read's home ground ironicly.

136 no for Read at the close. Hopefully he'll play in the first test, as when Gojo got picked it was after scoring just 66 against a poor Windies team. Darlyample should still play aswell even though he got just 1.

@ Sureshot - The byes were probably because Akmal got injured and Faisal Iqbal kept.

Yep, I think this could be the end of Geraint Jones for now. Although his keeping has improved since last summer, his batting hasn't done anything since. Chris Read looks to be a man in form and to be honest, even when he was dropped he played some crucial little knocks. Especially in WI in the ODI's, he can hit a mean cricket ball.

Akmal and Asif sustained injuries. I hope they do well.

And I don't think Read will be selected. But the English fans must be hoping so.

Read jogs the selectors' memory

England are set to name their Test squad on Sunday morning, but Read's name is unlikely to feature, regardless of this innings. England's selectors are known for their loyalty, and Jones's experience in last summer's pressure-cooker atmosphere will doubtless count in his favour, especially given the number of injury absentees that England are having to cover for.

That's a very valid point; England are doing enough chopping and changing at the moment, and they can do without losing an experienced wicket-keeper.

Whos going to the cricket match between pakistan and the world side on monday?
i want to go but tickets are sold out,
will there be tickets on sale outside the ground?
also what abut parking the car and all that and congestion charges?
i need asmuch help as i can get to prepare for this because im im willing to waste a journey to go outside the ground to get tickets before match starts

I was going to go but i thought sachin wasnt playing so i didnt buy any tickets.
Now he is, so :-(

I think congestion charge is ?8 but it might not apply at the time you are going. There is limited car parking at the oval but rele pulic transport is the way to go.

You can get a tube into the oval or a train into vauxhall and its about 2 minutes walk from either station

I doubt they sell tickets on the door especially if its sold out.
