I'd rather see Tremlett out of those two, but Tremlett over Saj or Lewis to be honest.

If Lewis can move the ball he'll be more than a handful. Hes taken a bagful of wickets against an International side before. Ian Harvey, Vass and Chris Harris have shown pace doesn't matter in ODI cricket as long as you can move the ball.

Agreed about Lewis. He can be a very effective one-day bowler who can be particularly dangerous early on with his swing.
Looking at the Pakistan ODI lineup it seems that every department has been covered. They've got express pace, fast swing bowlers, effective spinners, aggressive batsman's and of course a formidable middle order. ATM, I'd say on paper this Pakistan team looks like one of the best going around and are obviously favourites to take the series.

Pretty sure his only success was the 20/20 game against Australia..I think he was dropped during the ODI series (also V AUS) after Gilchrist and hayden were treating him like a spinner..

Harvey was a differnt type of bowler to Lewis..and ODI specialist, varying his line, length, slower balls yorkers.etc. Lewis bowls line and length without swing easy to hit.

Vaas - different league to lewis

Chris Harris - slow part time pie-thrower..would not get in a team for bowling alone..

Would still rather see Kirtley or Tremlett picked ahead of him. However i'd rather Lewis play than Mahmood !

I think we'll win a game or two, due to Trescothick and Pietersen. If either of those fires with the bat, then we can win the game. If they both fire in the same innings, then it's over, no matter how good Pakistan are. The problem is the other nine players.

I thought Broad looked promising yesterday, his figures were only spoilt by a Afridi blitz which is always a tough challenge for anyone with fielding restrictions. He should be played in all the ODI games imo.The biggest dissapointment I thought was Mahmood,he didnt look very good yesterday.Good to see Tresco back in some touch though. We should be having more such T-20 Internationals in the future.

Agreed. A lot of my mates were being incredibly naive by saying that Broad was rubbish yesterday. I simply told them that even the likes of McGrath and Lee have suffered some figure bashing at the hands of Afridi. I believe that Broad has the talent and the attidude, and he can develop into a good player for England in the future.

yes it does seem wierd how we only have one 20/20 match..

surely it should be 3 matches..

Maybe we should have three each of 50 overs and 20/20 games..

I don't think Broad has enough Variations yet to deal with players going after him. Sure he can go wide on the crease, but that would only work against a player who always looks to play on one side of the wicket, which you don't get very often in Internationals. He looks promising, but no more so than Mahmood would be, if he'd played more County Cricket.

Broad no more promising than Mahmood? Everyone's entitled to their opinion, but at least Broad can bowl a good line in International cricket.

I said potential. The only difference is that Mahmood is slightly more erratic due to his pace. I mean in the 20/20 they both bowled well apart from one over each at Afridi. If the openers did their jobs and got a wicket or two in the first 12 overs or so, then Mahmood could be brilliant in ODI. You've got to remember that it's difficult facing Jayasuriya and Tharanga, after they've got their eyes in, especially when there are more overs of fielding restrictions now.

Broad showed more promise in 4 overs than Mahmood has in his international career.

How many games must Mahmood cost us before we get rid of him?

The main difference between them is , to hit Broad for a boundary you have to take a risk..with Mahmood you can just wait for the short wide ball..usually bowls 2 of those per over..

That's a good point, from the times i've seen him play at County and International level, he doesn't seem capable of bowling a tight over. It seems that for every good ball, there is always 2 bad balls waiting around the corner.

so , first ODI is at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff tomorrow.

Whats the pitch like there?
Is it a large boundary?

One of the few grounds i have never been too..

Lewis doesn't swing the ball?

No way, he destroyed the Sri Lankans in the tour game with his swing. Lewis deserves some games, he is very accurate and has a good OD record.

203 wickets at under 27 with an eco under 4.5

In 3 ODIs he has 4 wickets at 31 with an eco under 5. (2 vs Ban and 1 vs Aus)

He hasn't had enough of a chance for my liking.

Well Glamorgan always tend to when on form get good scores there. Of what I know of it.

Low for the seamers, decent pace, slow spin for the spinners and decent sized outfield. 70Yards perhaps, but that's irrelevant as boundaries get brought in to make it easier to score.
