This series is going to be intriguing even if the best players aren't out there.

In this day and age, its highly unlikely that "The First XI" of any National Side will play more than a few Tests together.

You "Never" get a Test Series with the best XI from both countries playing against each other in all the Tests.

I just hate it when after a Test Match or Series people say "So and so didn't play, if he would have played....blah, blah, blah".

is the Pak XI vs Intl XI Twenty20 going to be telecast ?
if so, in which Indian channel ?

That article to me suggest GoJo will have the gloves till at least the world cup.

Good grief our selectors are thick.

A test average of 26, 19 in his last 10 tests. It's time for change!
I'm telling you, he has incriminating pictures of the selectors.

If Graveney is suggesting that Jones is the best keeper in the country, then he needs to get his eyesight checked.

I agree with Brigg. I was comtemplating not buying the package for this series seeing as how many players have been injured, but I have a feeling I might miss out on something if I don't get it. :p
This is what I meant by 'missing out'.

If Asif and Sami are out of the first test as well, I'd say a draw is the best result Pakistan can hope for.

Rana is now out of the series against England.

It seems that Pakistan is catching up on England on the injury list.

Maybe somebody can make a poll of how many players will be injured after the Test series, since I've got a feeling we will see some more injuries. But I don't hope so.

It really seems to be a problem that. If he was playing for Pakistan he was dropped some months or even years ago. But somehow sticking to a main team can be an advantage.

I've never seen Read bat myself, but his figures are better then Jones. Somehow I think only an injury to a player can create a spot for an emerging player in England. Darymple was playing really good in the ODI scene. It seems that England is making a Pietersen case of him, like let him playing only in the ODI's, till the day they can't do without him in Test matches.

Nope, but you get the impression that Graveney thinks Read isn't good enough, regardless of his form.

arrrgh.

Anyway did anyone see the scorecard for the England A match! Amazing!!!

Yes, a lot of people did, its been discussed here (I was there for most of the match), but it wasnt a true reflection of the 2 teams performances. Pretty much half way through the second day it was obvious that England A were just going to keep Pakistan in the field as long as possible. Pakistan reacted by not using their fast bowlers but instead using spin at both ends for long periods. They also stopped trying in the field. Their fielding was excellent on the first day but they did not look like they were trying from then on. Shame really a great match was ruined by England's tatics. Why bother having England A games at home if they arent going to try to get a result.

Luckily I didnt have to pay to watch the match as it was included in my Kent Membership, but I can tell you this, if these are the kind of tatics England are going to employ for A games then I wouldnt recommend anyone wastes their money on a ticket. I certainly wont be.

Well, I'm off to watch the Pakistan vs International XI in just under two hours. Let's see what side Pakistan plays with- But with so many injuries I fear it won't be a very competitive game! Cloudy conditions here in London today, so good pitch to bowl on perhaps- Afridi shouldn't open the innings in these conditions!

Read is an aggressive batsman, unfortunately he made one very embarrasing mistake when playing for England, when he ducked under a Curtley Ambrose Yorker, It was at a ground reknowned for having poor sighting behind the bowler (Oval or Lords, not sure which).

The top 3 in contention for the England keeping job are all aggressive (Jones, Read and Prior) I personally believe that Prior is the best batsman of the lot and stats back me, he also keeps to Mushy alot so he's not bad with the gloves despite being average in India. I feel Jones doesn't have the composure for International Cricket most of the time, and he is probably our worst player of spin with the sweep being to his demise. Don't be surprised to see Kaneria after his name in the scoresheet alot.

Read should have the gloves and then Prior. Davies the young Worcs keeper also has potential although needs more First Class cricket.

That match is today? Cricinfo has no mention of the match. I wonder where I can find a scorecard.

Well I might be one of very few, who still think GoJo is the best wicketkeeper-batsman in the country. But unfortunately his performances havent been impressive at all. But I am still hoping that he can reproduce the form he showed in South Africa.

Agreed. There is no doubt that when he is on form, he is England's best Keeping choice, regardless of what the Anti-Jones' of this board say. However, I still agree with my theory taht if he doesn't get a 100 in this series, he should be gone. i'm one of GoJo's biggest fans, but even my patience is wearing thin.

When he is on form is the problem.

He's been on form what 5-8 times in his England career. He's a liability who has had his chance.

And if you were to put the top 3 england keepers if they are all on form Prior is by far the best.
