He does have one big weakness still, just outside his off stump early on. But once he gets in he invariably goes on to score runs.

Add to that, he was up against McGrath; A bowler who can just land the ball in Bell's weakness area whenever he wants.

Quality attacks? This Pakistan attack is better in ODIs than the Aussie attack in ODIs.
He's such a better player since the Ashes it's unbelievable.

To be honest nearly every batsman in world cricket has a weakness to balls just outside off stump early on. It's why bowlers more often than not try to put the ball there...

Anyone have his averages against Pakistan alone, must be awesome considering he also plundered runs in the Away tour.

When was the last time you saw someone walk?
Ed Joyce did it yesterday.

Nothing wrong with not walking, especially in dodgy situations like that. For me, it looked not out when live.

His captaincy was below-par, but not walking is fine, no batsman should walk unless they are absolutley definitley out.
Any catch at ground height looks distorted on a replay, Strauss has got a history of not walking and is making a rod for his own back. If he walked when he was out, then Umpires would put most 50/50's in his favour as they see him as honest. He'll be the first to moan about being triggered, and I hope he does in the future. It's a terrible example to set.

Explain that to Saj. ;)

MUFC, Strauss in that instance had every right to stand his ground. The umpires weren't sure anyway otherwise they wouldn't have gone to 3rd umpire.

It was tight and all evidence is still inconclusive I think. Joyce dismissal was far clearer than Strauss' non dismissal.

I think about 90% of International cricketers will have no problem with Strauss not walking as they don't walk themselves. The fact is, batsmen are payed to do a job, and this job includes not only scoring runs but it's also about protecting your wicket as if it's your child. A bit of an extreme analogy but batsmen should never walk.

It's not as though the catch was obvious to the naked eye in full speed that it was a safe catch. Yes, it would be nice for batsman to walk when fielders are certain they have taken it legally. But it's not realistic in current Cricket.

My take on the walking thing. Umpires can give you out when your not, so why not let them also give you not out when you should be. Let things even out.

It would make the game better if people walked, but it isn't going to work. I don't blame Strauss.

As for his captaincy, he is no superstar but its early for him. I would say he is quite a bit better than Flintoff and taking it off Flintoffs sholders.

Agreed. Strauss may not be the best, but Flintoff is half the player he is when he is captain. Strauss should be England captain in the absense of Virgil.

Pakistan have made two changes bringing in Rao Iftikhar Anjum for the out-of-form Shoaib Malik and Imran Farhat for Shoaib Akhtar, who misses out because of a knee injury.

o dear ,wasn't it a knee injury that he just came back from?

Hope this isn't a re-occurance.

"Rao Iftikhar Anjum "..who the h3ll is he?

Wisden overview
With a high-arm action modelled on Glenn McGrath, Iftikhar Anjum is another addition to Pakistan's seemingly endless production line of pace bowlers. Iftikhar, however, is more Aaqib Javed than Wasim Akram or Waqar Younis, and his outswinger is considered by many to be just as lethal as Aaqib's. He can bowl reverse-swing - a prerequisite for Pakistani bowlers, when the ball gets a bit rougher, with good control over his yorkers. Iftikhar has performed consistently well in the domestic circuit since making his debut three years ago, taking over 200 wickets on the generally lifeless pitches of Pakistan. It was his stellar performances in the current domestic season that brought him to national attention. Iftikhar led his team - the Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited - to victory in the Patron's Trophy final against WAPDA, taking seven wickets in the first innings and ending with ten in the match. Not surprisingly, he was included in Pakistan's one-day squad for the series against India in 2004, before making his debut in the Paktel Cup seven moths later. He has since played 19 ODIs and has proved himself adept as a back-up bowler. But continuing injuries to Pakistan's frontline pacers means he remains perenially in the picture and he was rewarded with a Test debut against Sri Lanka in April 2006. Though he was expensive and wicketless, he would have been satisfied with a winning debut. With three of Pakistan's leading fast bowlers missing from the England series that summer, he has been called up for the Tests and is more than likely to play his second Test at some stage of the summer.

LOL..

reading those first few lines , he sounds like a super-hero..

Think it might be a slightly over-hyped. If he could do everything metioned there, he'd be in the team already.

But, I will wait and see..

Why does our Fastest bowler have a fine leg up in the circle? Oh, I forgot, Strauss is Captain.
