Even worse, the selectors are considering bringing in Dalrymple for Plunkett and dropping Panesar! If ever there was an ideal situation for a Chappers call-up then this is it.

Lot of critics and scribes still feel that Monty shouldn't be playing for England.
They are suggesting Dalrymple instead of Monty as he's a batsman and also bowls very good offspin. As the Aussies have always been vulnerable against quality offspin, the critics might have a point. They want Dalrymple to go to the Ashes.

I want Dalrymple to go to the Ashes, but as a batsman who bowls. Panesar is our best spinner; he might not be able to field and his batting is hit and miss, but he's our best spinner. After all, you pick spinners to bowl spin don't you?

Exactly. I'll never understand England's obsession with trying to find bowlers who can bat well. Who cares if they bat well if they can trouble the best batsmen?

My sentiments exactly. I've said this a lot of times on these boards, but a bowlers job is to bowl, not to bat. Although it helps if they can bat and produce a few runs, it isn't their responsibility to score runs; that is the batsmen's job. The only bowling position I want to bat a bit is number 8 which is where Glenn Chapple would fit in beautifully.

Also, in the few tests I have seen him play in, Danish Kaneria is hopless with the bat and he doesn't look teh bet fielder either; I havn't heard anyone calling for him to be dropped. How is he treated back in Pakistan?

I don't know if you remember, but Pakistan had this sort of trouble in Australia as well, our last big tour outside of the subcontinent. :spy

He played in the 20-20.

He's playing in their current CC game which started today though.

Good news.

Fletcher wants bowlers to bat a bit as England's batting order is fragile, as witnessed in Pakistan, India, and also at home against Sri-Lanka.
They have one too many stroke-makers in the line-up.

I heard Bob Willis or Gower say that England wants its spinners to bat. Monty has troubled batsmen, but he's got to do a lot more than take two prize wickets. He has to run thru sides like Vettori and Harbhajan every now and then, although I don't expect him to be Warne or Kumble yet.

He's won a few Tests for Pakistan. With Pakistan's middle order being arguably the strongest in the world, why would they bother about tailenders?

A middle order consisting of Inzi, Yusuf, Younis Khan, Akmal, Afridi, and Razzaq is very formidable. England and India learnt it the hard way when they toured Pakistan.

:), IMO hes better than Mahmood, Lewis and Plunkett. I would prefer Jimmy over them 4 though.

I agree, Tremlett is better than Lewis, Mahmood and Plunkett. However, Chapple is better suited to teh number 8 role than all 3of them. As for Jimmy; he's just class, and is a very good one day bowler nowadays.

I don't care as long as Mahmood bowls well.

Rumour going around on Sky sports that Waqar Younis whos pakistans bowling coach might come back if there are more injuries to pace bowlers :laugh. Also mushy might comeback.

Afridi injury scare for Pakistan - cricinfo, OK..

We do?

For tomorrow it'll be KP.

Normally it'd be Kp and Freddie, but Fred has calmed down alot.

We have a well balanced batting line up atm, and when fred comes back it's even better.

At least we know that Panesar is going to play tomorrow; Dalrymple has been released from the squad. I'm glad Monty is playing but I want Dalrymple to get a go sooner or later.
