No, we have to stick with Monty, the sooner he improves the better.

I'd bat him higher, I think he could be a batsman who has a good eye. And from what I've seen of his batting, he's not as bad as many make out. He's a got a decent technique for a so called genuine No.11.

I agree with you; I wan't suggesting that I wanted Panesar to make way for Dalrymple, I'm on about playing Dalrymple as a batsman. Panesar is the best spinner in England at the moment and he has to be played.

Well that's a possibility, but there isn't anywhere for him in the Test team atm.

I know that, but i'd rather him be in there as a batsman and not a spinner.

He's a package though.

I see what you mean, in ODIs he done wel as the solitary spinner, but as a lone test spinner he is a no-no.

Dalrymple looks to be the glue in a middle order, kinda like Colly. His offspin is very handy but I still consider him as a batsman. He looks to be a containing bowler who can get quite a bit of turn sometimes, but to me, he deserves a Test place on batting alone.

I would say if anything Dalrymple has done not nearly enough to command a test spot for his batting alone. Although averages don't mean everything and Fletcher has often done well at picking players that have not necessarily set County Cricket alight, Dalrymple still needs to improve his batting to be worthy of a spot based on that alone.

The entire current batting order, plus Bell, and possibly Rob Key and Owais Shah are all ahead of him in the pecking order.

True. He isn't a genuine spinner like Monty but can do a job at one end of the pitch. Definately deserves a place, maybe at 6 even :)

What?

He's a good batsman, but what moves him ahead of Bell, Key, Shah, etc?

Maybe I was wrong; i'm making my assumptions based on his ODI performances alone after all. I completly forgot about Shah, but I think he's slightly ahead of Key now. As for Bell, I want him in the squad, but I heard that England wanted to play Dalrymple ahead of him.

alas, Dalrymple was released from his england duties, which i found rather odd, as he could have been useful both with bat and ball.

Agreed, but Panesar is a better spinner so he shouldn't be replaced, and you can't change a batting line-up which scored 500+ in the first test.
