That's what I think. Although the ECB has stated that Jones' dropping was not due to injury, I don't believe them. They are using this injury as an excuse to give the public what they want and let Read play. I hope Jones goes down under, and I think he will. Athough Read's batting seems to have improved, let us not forget that it's county cricket. I don't mean to do downplay the skill involved in county cricket, but there is a huge gulf between Test and county cricket.

Hmm, I wouldn't say huge, but definately a gulf. English county cricket is the best standard of anywhere and contains a lot of high quality players. Definately there is a gulf, but I wouldn't say huge.

Also, I do believe it to be due to his poor batting form as Sky actually spoke to Jones and he said it was due to that and he was fit to play in the next test. Although it may have given them a slight exscuse I agree.

England need keepers like Gilchrist,Dhoni,Sangakara or Akmal who are brilliant batsman also with their good wicketkeeping skills.

Hmm, to be honest, the only one of those I would rate highly with the gloves on is Sangakarra, the rest had their moments just like Jones. Boucher is the sort of keeper batsmen we need.

Agreed, but it should be pointed out that Read is currently averaging MORE in county cricket than Jones was prior to his selection.

You want the jokes forum Jamesy, this is the cricket forum. Australian domestic cricket is far better than English domestic cricket.

Haha! I like how you snook the word 'prior' in there!

I agree with you though, but I don't think Read will do any better in my opnion. His glove work will be excellent but I think he will struggle with the willow. Let's hope i'm proved wrong though!

He'd have to live in England for four years before doing that. I ain't having four more years of not picking the best keeper in England. We've already had four years of not picking the best spinner in England.

That was unintentional actually..... must have been a Freudian slip.

Sadly, I think we will have to suffer more years of inferior spinners once Giles is back; Just because he can bat! He can't friggin' spin though!!:mad

Ye, Fletchers even said Montys 5-fer wasn't that good because he can't bat. His 3 not out looked solid enough :mad

I totally agree. 3 of the 4 highest batting averages in the county championship are Austrlians who have retired from international cricket or haven't been picked yet!

Fletcher's views on spinners is almost as bad as Sven's views on management.

If Panesar is dropped for Giles then Fletcher is an idiot.

Hmm, I think that's a matter of opinion. I agree that grade cricket in Australia is better than the district here. However, state to county I'm not convinced.

Yes, but who is to say if English players played in Australian state cricket they wouldn't be at the top of the averages.

Which is highly seeing as Australians usually play better at home. I think it's only Ramps whos in the top four of the averages, and he didn't make it as a test player.

Actually, in the County Championship (D1) averages only Darren Lehmann (who is 2nd) is in the top 10. He is the only overseas player besides Goodwin in the top 10. This is with the usual 10 innings minimum.

Crap, i had the runscorers There averages are still pretty high though.

Ramps - 89,75
Jaques -102.33
Lehmann - 71.90
Cosgrove - 62.50

Then theres Crawley who averages 57.53.

I think playing county cricket in England provides benefits to overseas players.Bcoz these overseas players when they tour with their team they know the conditions well. While that's not the case with the Australian county.I think if players play in the Australian county then it will help them more in knowing the conditions.
