Woah aren't we getting off topic with this domestic cricket discussion? We should get back to the keeper debate just to stay on topic.

Or maybe we should get back to Pakistan vs England debate.

Great news about Jones being dropped, averaging 50 for 2 seasons has done Read the world of good.

Great performance by England, one of the most dominant wins over a big team for a long time by us.

I'm also calling for Duncan Fletcher to be sacked, he made it quite clear to me that as soon as Giles is fit he replaces Monty.

Monty hasn't made many mistakes in the field lately, infact very few.

Duncan is also useless at ODIs imo, we have the players good enough, but several off them aren't being picked. Gough and Lewis are two of the best OD bowlers on the circuit.

Monty is a match winner imo, Giles is nothing more than a part timer.

Would Australia drop Warne for White?

Oh and before someone gets a bit annoyed, I'm not saying Monty is as good as Warne.

Monty bowled brilliantly.

I agree with everything. How on earth can Fletcher even think of dropping Panesar?

You say that 'Giles is nothing more than a part timer'. Even that is being generous.

If Monty is dropped for Giles then i'm just giving up on England.

I don't think backing Giles will do any good to England,Monty Panesar is the future of England in spin. You can't leave him out just bcoz Giles is coming back. Also I think Monty should get a chance in the ODI's too but considering his fielding it's unlikely that they will include him in ODI's or maybe in World Cup where spinners will be playing a major role this time.

Even Giles has said that Panesar is England's number one spinner.

That's great to hear. Hopefully Giles will sacrifice his place and tell Fletcher to pick Monty. Fletcher's obsession with tailenders batting really gets on my nerves . A bowlers job is to bowl and if they can bat then it's a nice bonus, but there batting isn't the be all and end all.

Didn't know you knew big Dunc :p
If Read fails in the next two tests then the selectors will have a right headache in picking the Ashes squad. I believe they now need to show Read the loyalty they showed Jones (before today) and give him a decent run in the team.

Re Read in for Jones.

It's naive to think that Jones hasn't been dropped because of the injury. The selectors know that Read will come in, probably bag a pair in the third test and maybe get 3 or 4 runs in the 4th test, he'll drop a few catches, probably muck up a stumping, and generally fail. Then Jones will return without the pressure that is on him now and probably get a ton in the first Ashes test. Clever move by the selectors in my opinion. Give Read a test, maybe two if he's lucky, to put the final touches on his International career.

If that was the selectors thought process they should all be fired immediately. Luckily for us it is almost certainly not. I would accept that Read could feasibly keep as well as he always did for England and has done for Notts and then not get the required runs to cement a place, but to say he is likely to turn into a poor keeper is a little far-fetched. As an England fan I hope he contributes to the team and shows improvement in his batting on the highest stage.

At the same time I hope Jones goes back to Kent and continues to produce improved performances with the gloves and rediscover his batting form. It could do him the world of good, much like Bell, and competition for places can only make England stronger.

Will be interesting if Read does well, as that will only guarantee him a place on the plane to Australia, but whilst there Fletcher will have the final say on who gets selected out of him and Jones. If he fails, we could see Jones back in the side (providing he finds runs for Kent) and someone like Davies going along as backup.

Hmmm, bad move changing a winning team. Especially when it was such a large winning margin.

Jones was performing with the gloves and thats why he is in the team.

But lets see this new guy. Jones was injured so may not have played anyway.

In which case why on earth would they go out of their way to emphasis that Jones hadn't been dropped because of his injury?

He's not new. He played against you guys in 99, did well with the gloves but failed miserably with the bat. Since he was dropped he has averaged 50 in FC cricket, and Jones has batted probably worse than Ahsley Giles for England.

"Monty bowled very well, no doubt about it," said Fletcher, which implied that he did have a doubt about it. "But we have to produce 11 players who can produce two of the departments efficiently, whoever is playing for England."

Doesn't sound too good. Cricinfo also said about how he kept going for all-rounders like Craig White when they where utter crap.

I do think Giles will comeback on ODI's though. He is a pretty tidy in ODI's and i don't think monty will be suited to ODI's as he hasn't been picked yet.
