If late on day 4 Pakistan are scoreing at 5/over against Kumble and Bhajju, I expect India to atleast bat out 100 odd overs if not go for the win..having said that you never know what happens with Viru. But in any case India shouldn't lose this one, it'll be a good test for the batting line up..
Well very good positive reply Shailesh, i like ur attitude buddy

That would be pure optimism. Do not forget that Afridi and Hameed got Pakistan off to a flyer that really took all the pressure off them. India will definitely not go for the win, especially since I think Inzy batted on too long. 383 is out of reach, I believe, no matter how Sehwag performs. There are 7 overs remaining today: if we make about 40 runs tonight (a decent run-rate) we still have to come back tomorrow and make 343 more runs. Impossible. I put the result at 70-25-5 now, with 5% being an India win and 25% being a Pakistan win.

If Inzy had declared earlier, perhaps with a lead of 350, I would have seen the Indians go for the target. But the extra 30-40 runs will probably make them more negative. And Pakistan still have a chance to win, especially if India go for a draw. Unnatural batting usually brings about your demise. Whatever happens in this match, we are sure to see a great contest in the ODI series, if this innings was anything to go by!

i think that the outcome of this match depends purely upon the innings of virender sehwag. not to put any of the other indian players down, but it just seems as though sehwag is the man for india at the moment. i agree with the odds of draw 50%, pak win 40 % and ind win 10% but, anything can happen. with the form that sehwag is in, and the unpredictability of the pakistanis, that 90% chance of there being an india-no-win result could mean nothing. its not over till its over and rest assured friends, this match is not over. keep an open mind and enjoy the remainder of the match, because in my view this has been the match of the series so far - and its not even over yet!

teh 2nd test between australia v india at adelaide 2003 australia scored 444 after 1 day. so i think anything is possible. the pitch is not an excuse because its still a brillant batting pitch but i agree i dont think india will risk it. but if the pakistan players start sledging to sehwag either he will score another blitz or hell make a low score.

im guessing sehwag wont do anything more in this match

very true Saqlain..a fittting climax to a very entertaining series! hope we won't be disappointed.

Sami is getting lots of swing from the pitch. Gambhir has got to look out for the in-swinger that makes him a candidate for LBW and Sehwag has to make sure he doesn't get anymore edges, like the one that got him off the mark.

well, lets hope, atleast for the quality of cricket played in this match so far that he does. i am almost certain that if the pakistanis can pick up sehwag early on they have the game in the bag. but, if sehwag does go on to make a sustainable innings, i supose itll be all upon himself to see it through to a victory or a draw. basically, the game lies in his hands, and inshAllah from a pakistanis point of view ;), he will be dismissed early otherwise this game could have any result. at the moment, im unfourtunetly tipping the draw because of the target set by inzamam before declaring... bit too much inzy...

There should be an auto-refresher on this page! There have been 7 posts in the last 5 minutes. :D

lol, tell me about it... in the time it took me to right my reply to jazz's comment, there were about 3 or 4 more comments made... :p

well sehwag said yesterday when he made 195 v australia in the 3rd test it was his fault that the team collapsed to 360 all out i dont see how it was his fault.

and he also said he wants now play a more defensive role because he does not want to the team to collpase like yesterday when sehwag gout out pakistan pivked up 3 wickets

Well the problem with India is when Sehwag get out they completely lose their momentum and their way. You'd think that all the other quality batsmen in our team would be able sustain the run rate, to some degree. As the stat on TV said, with Sehwag batting India had the run rate of 4.05. After he was dismissed the run rate for the rest of the innings was 2.40. That is the problematic area.

And about being defensive, what he was saying is that he is going to try and be more defensive in the last session of the day. When Sehwag went for a six in the 3rd Test, he played a shot he didn't need to. India were going well at that point and could have reached a high score. Sure, he does not deserve the blame, but he realizes that to some degree India lose their way when he gets out. So he is saying that he will not needlessly attack when India is in a good position.

I was just wondering about the bouncer rule in Tests. As far as I know it is 2 bouncers per over, but sometimes Sami seems to get away with 3-4 in an over. I remember an over in Kolkata where Sami bowled a bouncer every single ball. Darrel Hair chewed on his lips, meanwhile.

dont know if sehwag should do that. i think that he should just play his natural game and the rest will flow. he is naturally talented, and even though i had mentioned before that the game for india lies in sehwags hands, even if he gets out for a substantial score of say around 50, with the run rate of something around 4 an over, the rest of the indian players should be able to take india to victory.

sehwag just needs to worry about himself playing well and not the team. if he does, thats all they need, hopefully from his perspective, his team will support him in the chase. defensiveness is not the way though in my view, espesally from a batsmen like him...

STUMPS DAY 4: India made 25/0 and require a further 358 runs to win tomorrow, at a run rate of 3.93. I feel that this match can go any way, although the Indians will probably look at playing out for a draw. Pakistan took too long to declare, and really have left only two possible results. Except for that factor Sehwag.
