Pakistan in Sri Lanka - Jul-Aug 2009

Jeez Fawad Alam has a fantastic record in FC cricket. Tbh his record in all forms of the game is pretty good, but why is he opening?
It is difficult to dislodge a middle order of Younus, Yousuf, Misbah, and Malik. Malik could have opened though so Alam came in the middle order, but Malik is a very reluctant opener.

Even Akmal could have opened, but I don't think it's fair on Kamran to keep and then come and open.

Pakistan 1/1 now, typical opening start :p

Amazing game, test cricket. How 1 session can change the entire game.

I thought that was the case. Guys like Sehwag and Langer started off as middle-order batsmen, maybe he will turn out like one of them. He is pretty aggressive isn't he?

Pakistan is really strange. In one innings they only scored 90 innings and now they are 175-1. Fawad Alam got his first Test century in his debut match.

Also this:

Alam becomes the first Pakistan player to make a debut Test century away from home.

Great knock from Fawad Alam. Don't think he should permanently be opening though, but for now, could be a short-term solution - unless he's brilliant in the opening position and therefore would have to be picked as an opener.

Really can't understand why Nasir Jamshed has been overlooked though as an opener. Whenever I've seen him play, he's looked impressive. Definetely more impressive than Manzoor.

Definitely not, although we will have to wait and see.

Fawad Alam cannot possibly open with his technique on non-subcontinental and not Sri Lankan (since it is apparently not part of the subcontinent :p) pitches. He will be a great middle order batsman for Pakistan. We just need to get rid of Misbah or Malik, and a spot is open for him.

Stumps day2 Pakistan in a strong postilion 178/1 still 3 days to go and Pak will surely build a mountain of runs, nice impressive batting by Fawad (102*), have younis on the other end so expect him to score big.

Manzoor, i don't find him deserved in the team atm, he is young needs more to spare in practice.

Can somebody find out what is the lowest team total in 1 innings by the team winning a test match?

Actually this doesn't make sense because the answer would clearly be 0/0 by England :p

Prehaps the greatest difference between a team's first and second innings (when winning a test match) with no declarations involved.

^^England won a Test match against Australia at Sydney in 1887 after scoring 45 in their first innings. That's the lowest ever.

I just thought about the test match between NZ and India where both teams were bowled out in the 90s, but forget what they made in their respective 2nd innings.

I don't think it was that much so that can't be the answer to the 2nd question.

The wonders of test match cricket. How one day can change the entire complexion of a game. Bowled out for 90, and now Pakistan taking the lead (and look good to make a big lead, but they can screw it up anytime).

Who would have thought.

Lol, I feel stupid now:(. I was sure Pakistan were out of this. Damn. I guess such unpredictability is good for cricket though.

I watched until Fawad Alam got out as I wanted him to do well. Ridiculous batting from Pakistan but I was really impressed with Kulasekara. Great bowling. Pakistan's already lost this match and it's only been a day. Only the rain gods can save them now.
:p

Thats twice in three days (well one of them was cause of a joke I played, but still)

To be honest, I didn't think we were capable of this. Ramiz Raja made an excellent point in which he said if Pakistan can give this crap performance (he says crap on air every now and then), then they can also give an exceptional performance as well.

Now Pakistan just don't need to screw this up. The game is theirs to lose now, from this position. Well done Umar Gul and Saeed Ajmal (outperformed Herath and Mendis :o) for bringing Pakistan back into the game, and of course Fawad Alam for grasping this opportunity with both hands.

With the way Pakistan plays cricket dont be surprised if Pakistan end up 250 all out tomorrow.
